I'm really confused about why "professional" pre- and reviews of the game tend to appear so overly sugar-coated. Like how would the automatic unloading of guns which are swapped in the inventory be an improvement?
I understand that on German reviews, there's the usual built-in "puppy protection" for domestic developers, but this time they seem to be in good company. Especially when you look up the description of how the scores are "valued". According to their own rules, the score of 8.1 would mean this:
Quote:
Outstanding: 8 and 9

Score of an 8 or 9 is an 'Outstanding' score. This score is given when a game far exceeds expectations and/or offers something brand new or ground breaking to the genre. It has become common to see titles with high scores because common perception has elevated the 7s and 8s to 'average' scores. We work hard at not following that path and will award these scores only when the title deserves an outstanding.

Now, that's a joke.
I guess it speaks volumes that the user rating is 25% lower than the reviewer's score...

The reviewer himself posted this on the offical forums and said his rating is more a "funfactor"-rating, so I guess he had some fun with the game.

Maybe, but according to their own disclaimer that would justify an "entertaining" rather than an "outstanding".

My review:

I wish 1.13 and BiA got drunk, made love and had baby together.

And baby had BiA terrain graphics.

Professional reviews are rarely harshly negative and often don't even attempt to critically evaluate a game. It think that the proper way to consider professional game sites/magazines are as marketing tools for software producers which shouldn't be surprising as game sites and magazines require ad revenue to stay in business. The review in question demonstrates as much.

Flettner: I think you should read the article before you say I didn't critically evaluated the game. Smile

(we also do not get advertising revenue directly from publishers, though they may advertise through the ad agencies we employ, but this is completely without any knowledge or sales efforts from HG)
