I don't... usually, at least not with militia. I did arm all the militia and their reinforcements as my reputation improved at Cambria (up to 24 now) and Drassen Airport (up to Cool. Other than that, I don't arm the militia at the other points I control because the AI predictably attacks certain locations depending on which squad letter they are assigned when they spawn and launch from Meduna.

Even at 24 militia in Cambria, all with SMGs, assault rifles, or better, like AKs, SVDs (actually a Zastava model, FYI), etc. they still lose around three men each attack by enemy teams numbering 6-8 men when out of sector. They can actually lose more men if you have just a couple mercs in-sector and you aren't actively doing all the killing because they don't all respond unless the enemy cross their (very) short guard range.

So for the moment I just time my movements around the counterattacks and camp my primary 6-man team at the most likely location to be attacked. Unless it's a critical location, I may just let them take it and go back and recapture it later once I've handled more important battles.

I do like the fact that the map is actually realistic in relation to the location of your teams in-sector, i.e. where you place your team on the map is roughly where they are when you load in. This does two things for me. First, it allows me to put them close to a point I want to defend, i.e. a row of concrete barricades, near a rooftop access ladder, etc. Second, it saves time when trying to get to a specific building, i.e. where a shop is.

For now, THE only way to defend sectors is hire addition mercs to defend them.

Militias are too weak and useless, all they can do is just to buy some time.

Not true, the militia does fine if you treat them right. Give them fully repaired rifles and your half damaged armor and they will sometimes take out squads of enimies larger than they are. Especially if you help them live long enough to level up some.

Maybe armor counts more than I guessed. All my militia have top end weapons (because it's cheap/easy to just repair looted guns) but I haven't given them any armor.

I found a way that is working pretty damn good for me, keep 2 mercs at least in the middle of the map or whenever you expect to be attacked.

The team should have at least one demolitions guy and a sniper, after that all you do to defend mines/towns/any place is play guerrilla warfare.

I found hilarious the way that AI rush to the center of the town in order to capture the "green flag" area, you can just watch where they are going and set up a quick ambush. : )

Have you played with the flags in situations where you are attacking?

Try standing on a flag that still has soldiers attached to it and see what happens.

I actually think this would solve the hunt for the lone stragglers in ja2 problem. Especially if we move to big maps.
