No problem in my PC(i5,4G,ATI6650). Maybe I'm just a simple test, so don't meet.

But many players(from TBS) slowdowns in the strategy and tactical. When the slowdowns happen, program restart and reload and everything is back to normal. Sounds like the problem of resource or memory management.

Maybe someone can provide a screenshot(s) of the used memory from task manager when the slowdown happens...

I just installed and ran the most recent SCI linked in the OP, and noticed some slowdown in the very first sector.
The mem usage was just shy of 400k (~395k or so). Using Windows XP sp3 if that matters any Smile

games totally unplayable in terms of repairing training etc..that screen..example..i click brain..wait 5-10 seconds before my mouse will move again..click repair..wait..click items..wait..click to fast forward time...each segment..5 30 and 60 i have to wait between each 5-10 secodns to get to next speed up value..is funny..but in battle the games is very smooth and fast..no problems fighting enemies

edit:this is on BOTH..a fresh install with aimnas v21+ latest sci+latest exe build AND latest sci+latest IoV+latest exe build Ja2_5353

@all: I wonder if the slowdown has something to do with the new timer code...

Did anyone experience slowdowns with the latest official release (4870)? Because the release version did not have the new time code included.

5224 no slowdowns?? This version has the high speed timer already included. So this version was working fine for you? After that, you had the slowdowns??

Okay tried that on my laptop. Seemed that it was smoother during the first battle in Omerta after chopper landing, just had one slow-mo bullet flying moment, but in general the enemies did work normally.

Getting the massive slow-downs again when moved out from Omerta and encountered the first enemy patrol on my way to Drassen... have to wait several minutes for the opponents' turn. JA2.exe using memory ranging from 40MB to 450MB...

I will test the 4870 soon if it works.

Did you really start the game with the "ja2_5354_no_highspeed_timer.exe" and not with the "ja2.exe"? If you still have slowdowns, then the problem is something different and not the highspeed timer.

Did you know in which 1.13 revision the slowdown happened? Does the official release 4870 work for you without any slowdown?

Maybe HAM 5 causes the problem, because AFAIK, HAM 5 did a lot of changes to the strategy map screen (new waypoint system, ...)

Yes, I DLed the "ja2_5354_no_highspeed_timer.exe" and copied it to the ja2 root folder, overwriting the initial one. Didnt work for the slowdown problem as I wrote before.

I can now confirm that the 4870 official release from the last December works for me, no slow downs at all so combat is quick and the game itself enjoyable to play.

edit: Okay, now I replaced to original ja2.exe, then copied the no_highspeed_timer exe to the root folder and booted the game with it... seems to works now!

For now, don't pick up Skyrider. He isn't terribly useful anyway on the limited space available and a likely candidate. Will investigate further when I have the time.

Do you know in which version (revision) the slowdown happened? Maybe the problem is releated to the zombie feature (which checks the game in tactical in regular intervals to spawn zombies ...)

EDIT: I will later build a new CHINESE executable (without the ZOMBIE feature) so you can test if slowdowns in tactical still appear...

So, I had an odd crash just now. It stopped because it was unable to call something like ANIMS/F_MERC/(die forward).sti. First, I've killed literally thousands of people in this installation so far without running into that particular error. Second, I don't think that file exists anywhere in any of my installations of JA2 (at four, at the moment...).

Has anybody got any ideas? I post this here because I'm running Tais' latest SCI w/ AIMNAS v27 and it's the only version I've seen this error with. I can post a save file without too much difficulty if necessary.

It's in Data\Anims.slf[F_MERC\F_DIEFWD.STI]
The reason for the crash? wouldnt know it, I've been playing the v27 SCI myself as well and weirdest thing I got was a crash when trying to exit my running game via the options screen, had an assertion on line 1894 in sgp.cpp
One thing is for sure, there's something weird going on with the exe for a while now and it all started happening around the time the high speed timer was introduced

Should have guessed. I'll replace it if the problem persists. Part of the problem may have been that I had my sniper turn to take the shot and spotted about a dozen enemies at once at the same moment. It could've overtaxed my machine or something. This ~80 enemy battle was the first time I noticed any serious slowdown issues on my rig with the new .exe, though.

about the part of stuff being in german, try renaming the file german.cp in the root of the games directory so that the game wont find it anymore, then go check if stuff is still in german, if not, you've just fixed it!

Hello, brand new here! Tai, I want to first thank you for your amazing work. I've lurked around the forums for the last half a year, and your work has always been quality and cutting edge.

This question pertains to your SCI and Ham 5.5.1. I desperately want to play HAM 5.5.1., along with your SCI. Now, this might be a stupid question, but does your SCI come with HAM? I know that AIMNAS, at least before, had bigmaps and HAM bundled in. Does your new SCI's have this AIMNAS version?

I'm just a little confused. (haha) What I really, really want is all the cool features of the newest HAM, along with your SCI, Tai. If I have to lose the weapons, the other bangy bangy stuff, that's fine.

Thank you for your help!

Fast Edit: Just looked over the dl'd files, and yeah, seems HAM is incorporated. I have one other question though. Can we use NCTH? I like the fact that shotguns are actually useful in this new mode, so it would be just... great if we can use this mode. I know that AIMNAS doesn't work well with it, but has this been rectified? If not, then I understand. Thanks for the help!

This SCI contains AIMNAS. So everything that is within AIMNAS is in (like HAM5) and things that are not supported by it (yet. Like NCTH) are not.
AFAIK there is some (untested, unsupported) NCTH-data in the package but it's not recommended to use.

Thank you Sam. Yeah, I'm now playing with OCTH, which is really not at all that bad.

On another note, I was reading up on some other posts about Tai's SCI, and I had two more questions.

First, if this is a work in progress, and I really want to finish a campaign (I don't remember the last time I actually pulled that off! Very Happy), should I continue to use Tai's SCI? It has so many goodies, but if I can't actually finish the campaign, I'm not sure if I should continue, especially if I can't continue my game elsewhere. I do know that there's a guy named Tao that modified the files to make it back to regular maps, so that could be a shortterm fix, but I would like some advice.

Second, should I be worried that flying into Aruco, I was assaulted by rifle men and the like? I only modified a few ini settings from the default, and am playing on expert, but I don't remember anything like the welcome I received last night; I nearly shat my pants when I saw high caliber bullets punching into my men! That's why I thought I had WF installed in accident; I have heard how difficult that game could be.

Last little observation: the encyclopedia is no where to be seen, and the recon reports are in german.

Thank you so much for all your work!

To answer the second question, someone (I think it's smeagol, in this case, but I don't know if he used one of the pre-existing mini-mods to do it or just set things himself) made weapons progression a little more balanced, so you ought to run into rifles, shotguns, and SMGs, as well as pistols, from the very start. So, it's standard, not an option you fiddled with, but the stuff they have is still pretty low tier equipment (I think 5.56 rifles are the highest calibre guns they use at the outset). It's balanced (in my mind) by the much, much better equipment your IMP gets.

Thank you very much. That answered my question perfectly.

The other question got answered in IRC; yeah, I can't actually play the whole thing right now. I need to stay within the red x's. Seems like there is a beta for big maps, and Tai's SCI is an unofficial participant. A little confusing, but hey, it was "very unofficial", so I guess it's to be expected.

Either way, another way to play. Just shook me up, is all. http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/board/images/icons/default/laugh.gif
