So, is Flugente going to keep working on 1.13 or can we expect a stable release anytime soon?

Everyone (FC included) is going back to working on what they've been working on before this KS for a while. No idea on release of a new v1.13 but if you want to see JA:F backers names in v1.13 you got to wait until submissions are sent and implemented. Guess next of next month could be a date.

It seems to be a widespread assumption that everyone here is going to drop whatever they were working on and either hibernates for the next 18 months or works 24/7 for FC. I wish people would think for a minute before posting.

Hey there. We won't go for Greenlight. Just because so far we don't need it. First of all the Jagged Alliance brand is still quite some name. And we also already made a steam-deal for Space Hulk as well. We are in the lucky position to talk directly to Steam. Same as Publishers, you know. Some studios can do that as well. But for that you either need to be very good or have a lot of luck. It's up to you folks, what of these things we are Wink

That sounds also great to me. Yeah, not every Indie dev team has the "luck" to get in touch directly with Valve - that's why Steam Greenlight is a good option. Smile

But hey, Space Hulk for Steam. That means that Jagged Alliance: Flashback will also see the (green-)light (no pun indended^^) on Steam in future - awesome. Wink

If you want to give Thomas credit for only one thing give the man credit for being a damn good negotiator! I don't know many studio CEOs who can go to a GDC and come home with TWO huge licenses from... nowhere. I am 100% confident he'll manage to get for JA:F every deal possible to make it go off on the gaming market like an A-bomb in your back garden. Very Happy

Well I believed it. But it's true, sounds like a story from a B movie. Razz That being said if this works out well, you can fund JA3 just by selling the script to Hollywood Very Happy. I wonder who would play you... hmm...

Oh well, actually they wanted an upgraded version. However it was just an idea by then. And the result is pretty awesome actually. And I can understand the initial idea as well. Think about it: Jagged could work on iPads as well. Especially with the architecture these things offer. Need to stop playing? Just turn it off while you leave the train. And turn it on again once you want to continue and you are able to continue right where you were (the Playstation Portalbe had a comparable feature by the way). I think someone around here at the forums tried to get JA2 running on the iPad as well. Dunno how far people got. The code hasn't aged quite well so I guess it must be a pain in the ass. But in theory that idea ain't that bad at all.

Yep. The question is here how many indie or mainstream studious would've taken the bait and ran away with that like a happy trout? 90% i say... Milk a license for money? Hell ya!

So this is why we turned the screw so hard on FC for the last two weeks of the KS, until we were sure community and old sirtechies would be involved in the game. Because there was a clear danger of this being a bit of spray and paint on some old game. True, that wasted them probably half the money they could've got (insert evil grin) but also ensured a much stronger and honest backing from the community. And with a decent JA, the returns are infinitely greater.

I am not saying this is guaranteed to work perfectly. Maybe at some points they go insane or sick of us and shut everyone off and go reskin FT. But if they proceed with this the right way only the sky is the limit.

well seeing how FC got these to games under wraps... hey Thomas, I'm looking to buy an apartment which is bloody expensive here - can you come to Vienna and just hang out with random people, I'm sure you'd find one for me Very Happy

my plans for the next 18 months:
1. play the Urban Chaos / 1.13 hybrid (if I manage to get it up and running Wink)
2. play Space Hulk
3. Play Jagged Alliance Flashback
4. what's the next game FC is working on after that? Wink

I don't know, I only played it very briefly when it came out and I wasn't impressed. The idea was alright but it didn't do anything for weapon wise. Same reason I don't like WW2 or Western FPS anymore - why would I want to run around with old shitty guns when there is so much more today? Doom, Heretic or Rise of the Triad - now THOSE were proper FPS^^

A new MadTV, now that would be awesome!!! (wink, wink, nudge, FC Wink)

Cool, I didn't know that.

The biggest selling point of that game was the calculation of blood in real time for the first time ever, resulting in in ludicrously brilliant killing rampages. The level design was pretty boring however, but I remember having read that this was due to the studio running out of money?

Which wasn't a curse in the first place, but bad attempts at making games. Period.

I mean you can shovel crap to the general public if you're selling Mass Effect 3. And you're investing tens of millions in marketing it. The average idiot with a credit card will buy it. Just call it's Mass Effect and his favorite actor said it's cool or something. He won't even care to check if that actor ever played a game in his life.

But you can't afford to fuck up a cult game, without that kind of marketing. And that's what everyone did after Sirtech. Cutting corners and budgets, adapting their old game to "look like JA" then selling like it's fresh bread and in general trying to make JA without giving a fuck what JA is.

bC wasn't the first who had the idea to "reskin" a game and brand it JA. They all tried that. I think in that respect BiA and JAO were the first ever attempts to make a JA from scratch (not sure though).

So that's your curse. Greed and stupidity.

Well it's the curse we have had to live with. The devs that didn't know what to do with the license.
Luckily so far FC seems to have a good grasp on the Core of Jagged Alliance and are willing to add something of their own.

And seeing the dioramas I must say I am optimistic to say the least.

Though that, said I was optimistic when BC announced a new JA game... :roulette:

So let's say I am psyched by what Full Control has shown so far.
Plus of course... Turn Based Turn Based Turn Based Turn Based!!! ^^

BTW... Can we flog someone if they suggest RTwP or something stupid? :taskmaster:

I can and do.. everything bitKomposter did, falls in this kind of category.
The thing, which bought me is, when i read that FC wanted to fund it themselves and no involvement of bC, besides the license renting.. this was a move which made me hopeful the first time... and most of the Kickstarter actions further cemented this.
(also i liked their Space Hulk vid Wink ).

Ok, so here I am finally celebrating the funding of JAF. To be honest I get drunk on whiskey every Friday, but this time I have a good excuse. Since JAF is set in the 80s, I will play a video from one of my favorite bands from the 80s, Social Distortion. The song is from the 80s although the video was made in 1990. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oh8zcbC_Dcw&list=PL24FB92C17F0FC637
