Nordic Games seems to be a reasonable sized studio. Will they make a proper JA game or will they milk to royalties?

Damn you, Slax.

According to Wikipedia, one of Nordic Game's subsidiaries is Grimlore Games, which "began as a developer team in Nordic Games in December 2013 with key members from former Münich-based game development studio Coreplay". Coreplay was the studio behind Jagged Alliance: Back in Action, so if there ever will be another JA title, they're probably going to get the job. Not sure I'd like that, though...

I feel so on the edge... I made my first Wikipedia edits for this! It only took me what, 10 years?

I don't even mind at this point having JA3 made on BIA/Coreplay alike engine. As long as someone gets the damn game done from one end to the other, properly, without placeholders, without shortcuts, without "this didn't make the cut cause the budget was too small".

But that discussion is so far ahead of the news that I don't even dare to speculate.

Man, at this point I'd go for an open-source ASCII JA3. All of the gameplay elements, all of the story. Constantly growing. None of the impossible deadlines or wages.

Maybe even go for a full blown roguelike like X@COM (the X-COM roguelike made by the creator of Cogmind).

I wonder if anyone from Nordic games was across the JAF kickstarter.

This really feels like dejavu all over again.

I almost feel like they should just let it die, it's like resurrecting an old war buddy just to see him get killed again and causing more pain.

In my personal opinion, if the game can't use a modified version of the Silent Storm engine, then just let it be, us fans have been messed around too much for another company to come along and say "we'll do you justice" only to not do it justice.

Actually it feels more like this (to put a lighter touch on your comment):

I hope another one comes out, honestly if it takes another two or three installments to get it right, it's worth it for a JA2-quality game.

I hope they make the proper JA3 though.

That's really interesting since they are already making sequel to The Guild 2 which they also aquired. Wonder where they plan to get funds for making two sequels with such high expectations.

Just make a game with good but not extreme graphics, good gameplay, good game mechanics and the possibility to mod it
No need for fancy high end 3D engines, etc..
We've all seen how it went with Cities: Skylines, no mega project like Sim City, yes uber sales and mods all over the place.

I do hope that these guys understand it this time.

Jagged Alliance Online: Reloaded was just released on Steam, and apparently it's essentially the same old game but with the shitty free-to-play elements removed. According to the Steam page, this was because the devs finally got the rights to change the game to better suit their own vision. Nordic Games is listed as the publisher alongside the dev team, and this change was obviously authorized by the new IP holders. It's possible Nordic Games estimated that they'll get more money out of the existing product by changing it into a paid one (although I can't imagine that such an obscure game would be generating much profit no matter what business model it's using), but I'd like to interpret this as a somewhat good sign: showing interest on the IP, and letting the devs do their thing (assuming that part wasn't bullshit).

Cliffhanger guys started all nice, they even came here at one point and wanted feedback, then it went all horribly wrong when people caught glimpse of JAO.
On the other hand they do have their own engine (I think).

IIRC JAO wasn't a bad game mechanically, but they ended up doing pretty much every single thing F2P is hated for after the initial testing. So with a conventional business model it might be worth a second look.
