Hey guys, I've recently installed ja2 on a different computer as I don't have access to my usual laptop and I am having this issue where black vertical borders are shrinking the screen; it doesn't render the game unplayable, but it is a little bit annoying. I tried to include a screenshot but the borders didn't show.

I know that installing 1.13 or Stracciatella most likely would fix the issue, but I have committed myself to a JA2 > Unfinished business playthrough and AFAIK, the save converter won't work with anything but Vanilla. The suggestions I looked up on google didn't fix the issue either.

Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it? If so, can you please let me know so I can big grin

You need to select a game resolution in JA2.ini that matches your native display ratio. Otherwise you will have borders at the top/bottom or the sides.

I'm using 1.12 so the ini file just says cd = c lol

Sorry, I overlooked that. big grin

I guess with vanilla JA2 you are out of luck. Back in its day the game was fixed to 4:3 display ratio. Forcing your graphics card or display to do some up-/downscaling will only make the game looked warped.

On a related note, is there anyway for loading screens (that are still in 4:3 aspect) not to be stretched when playing in widescreen resolutions? If not how hard would it be to implement it? or alternatively would widescreen loading screens be an option to avoid shots looking like they had an anvil dropped on their head?

It's okay Silver happy

Like I said, it runs fine at the intended resolution for my regular laptop, but I guess I can get used to the borders! Thanks anyway!
