which one is better? i am asking because someone said rifle lam has 300 range while lam200 has 100 but this sounds pointless to me since most sniper rifles take only lam200 so why would sniper rifles use lesser ranged laser?

lam200 should have 300 range right?

maybe that guy was mistaken about this.

Because in reality, lasers are basically useless in daylight at any kind of range you would use a rifle for. AN/PEQ-16 which is probably the most used LAM in US armed forces has visible laser max effective range of 25 meters. Infrared laser (used at night/low vis conditions) can be used at ranges comparable to JA2 Rifle LAM, but they require night vision goggles to see, so more or less can't be combined with optical sights other than the reflex/reddot ones. So it's not something anyone cares about when thinking about sniper rifles.

Also, ability to mount accessories is probably tied to the kind of rail the gun has, most low-mid coolness sniper rifles are more or less old and/or hunting rifles and don't have full picatinny rails. So there probably are some more advanced, fully milspec modern sniper rifles that could mount the Rifle LAM.

It's the same in JA2. The shooter needs to be able to see the dot, so lasers are useless during the day or when the target is in a bright spot. They are very useful during the night, but who would use a sniper rifle during a night encounter? Laser pointers are perfect on pistols, SMGs, ARs and shotguns, which you will probably use during night combat.
