When you say 'unofficial' builds, do you mean Sevenfm's experimental project builds?

I'm sure he's fixed more issues than broke new ones, but you could always install his build and just turn off all of the newer features in the ini?

Yeah, I tried Depri's latest version from May.

Most of the bugs I encounter result in a full on crash of the game
-getting ambushed
-getting invaded with militia in the sector
-opening the sector inventory
- Maria/Angel new quest (doesnt work out of the box, requires an ini setting)

just some to mention. Havent tried SevenFM's yet

In my opinion the option "READ_PROFILE_DATA_FROM_XML" in JA2_Options.ini should take precedence here and currently it doesn't. If this is set to TRUE, the game should load merc data from MercStartingGear.xml, no matter what inventory system you are using.
This is fixed in r8868. I also fixed a display bug with the squad list, when USE_XML_SQUADNAMES was TRUE.

there no ''army composition'' tag in JA2_options.ini in new SCI's or what? also i cant find ''merc_can_do_advanced_repairs'' option...
what the point of deleting option, which can just switch to FALSE, if y don't like it?

Army composition has nothing to do with JA2_Options.ini. It's a map specific parameter for each sector found in TableData\Army.

MERCS_CAN_DO_ADVANCED_REPAIRS was moved to Skills_Settings.INI, because it's a trait of technicians.

This is in DifficultySettings.xml, defined per difficulty level.

Setting DYNAMIC_OPINIONS to FALSE doesn't turn dynamic opinion feature off, however MeLoDy bookmark isn't showing (messages in log still present if DYNAMIC_OPINIONS_SHOWCHANGE = TRUE, mercs dialogues working as expected if DYNAMIC_DIALOGUE = TRUE).
Upd: I've checked Flugente's post on this feature, it is expected behavior (except MeLoDy should not be missing, and dialogues shouldn't work, but it probably had been changed in later releases)

I tried the 8796 build again, with a fresh installation and still got regularly crashes when I got ambushed.

Also another bug that would spawn only one enemy in each sector. I kill him, sector clear, I look at the map and supposedly there is still the original army occupying the same sector, but invisible (even with ALT+E)
Retreating and entering that same sector again only spawns one enemy. Doesnt matter what sector I'm going, this bug breaks the whole game.

Hello!

I'm running the 8796 revision of 1.13(installed via Depri's SCI).

I'm getting an odd bug using IMP merc creation where no matter the major traits I pick or attributes of the created merc I can only select from a small number of pistols (based on what I've read I should for example be seeing some rifle option in the gear selection if I double up on marksman to get to sniper).

Thoughts?

Can't reproduce. If I select Sniper trait I get a Calico M-900 and 4x scope in the list, just as expected.

If you get the SVN files and get the latest revision exe from Seven's Google Drive, this will overcome the crashing. Alternatively, try pressing "E" rather than mouse-clicking on "Go to sector". That seems to bypass a stuck-loading screen issue.

Those skills are hardcoded, so no way of reverting that change outside of downloading the whole code base, reverting those changes in code and recompiling your own version. Or sticking with some older version from before that time, if that is so important. Or increase the limit on how many skills mercs can have so that they can fit one more minor skill if needed.

If your custom mercs are already on max skills (whatever the limit is, 10 or so probably), I personally, can't really see what's the problem, as Hunter/Ranger is pretty meh anyway, rifle bonuses are small, shotguns are pretty mediocre at best, outside of super early when everything is better than pistols or giving them to poor mercs like Ira, so for some superhumanly minmaxed mercs, I'd never want them to be Hunters/Rangers anyway cheeky

The simple solution is to go into the options file and max out the number of major and minor traits allowed. You can also increase the number of build points available and the maximum skill level at start. This will allow you to build that merc you want without bumping up against the default skill limits.

I'm going through UB campaign, partly because I don't think I've ever finished it without cheats and partly because it has not received any love in a long time. So far what I've noticed;
- After hiring someone from MERC, Speck uses wrong voicefiles for two of his speeches, when he's talking about mercs inventory upgrade
- MERCs hiring costs are not matching what is deducted from the balance when hiring someone
- AIM mercs still have the 1 day, 1 wk, 2 wks choices when it should be one price. So now you can get any high level merc for the whole mission with 1 day payment
- Sectornames are all wrong due to missing Sectornames.xml file in Data-UB/TableData/Map folder
- Game complaings about NUMBER_OF_MAJOR_TRAITS_ALLOWED in skill_settings.ini being out of range when it's the default 5 with valid range being [2,2]. Same value in vanilla 1.13 gives no error

It was to make hunter more in line with the other gun focused major traits. You can always allow additional traits in your xml and anyone you want to have it add it to them in mercprofiles.xml

you want more than two expert gun focused trait slots?? for what kind of merc? something like foking terminator all-in-one with bombardier/machinegunner/bodibuilding/demolitions/survival? i just can't see issues with default perk, but clearly see this weaponry racism with new one

No need to bring out the drama queen here. Weapon perks are weapon related, hence the name. So no, ranger will not be changed back. If you want your machinegunner/ranger/sniper/survivalist/nightops superman then just change the settings and create him.

Hi all, first post so feel free to move/remove if it's in the wrong thread or forum.

I am experiencing the same "one enemy per sector bug" as MisterMoe posted above. It seems to affect pretty much every sector. I kill the enemy, get the history log update, and then usually the sector is still flagged as hostile with a number of enemies in parentheses when right-clicking in strategic view. Am also running 8796 with pretty much unchanged .ini files and options.

Is it related to reinforcment settings somehow? Will try and revert to an older build perhaps. Grateful for any input.

1. The descriptions(backgrounds) of mercs are bugged? I think. Speck, Raffitti, etc. have just a bunch of gibberish instead of the English flavor text.
2. Just going to M.E.R.C and checking the descriptions of mercs there.
3. I don't think there are any, I just made a fresh install and the descriptions are bugged.

Crash at Drassen SAM Site

When attempting to attack the Drassen SAM site, I experience a crash to desktop, specifically it seems to happen when an explosion goes off after joining combat with the enemy. It happens everytime to me once I try to take the SAM site, whether I throw a grenade, or the enemy does. Once I believe an enemy stepped on a mine and that explosion also triggered the crash. Basically, the explosion makes its sound, and then the game crashes to a windowed black screen.

Version is r8909_g2574 - I will happily provide any further files or info needed

The only mod addition to the base 1.13 is Wildfire 6.07 for the maps.

I would really appreciate any thoughts on this as I have tried reinstallation, compatibility fixes, scoured the forums to avoid having to make a post, but since I can never fully take Northern Arulco's SAMs without a crash, my early game progression is pretty limited. Thank you for all the amazing work you do!

Sorry to post again, but I've still had no success with the crashing issue, in fact, I managed to progress past the Drassen SAM Site simply because by a miracle, nobody hit a mine or threw a grenade, but once I got into Cambria (The hospital), it happened again. Explosion, then crash to desktop. I feel this will be unavoidable considering the minefield surrounding it, and so, I'm stuck once more.

I found this in game_log if it is of any help?

I've no expertise on error-reports, so this might be totally unrelated, but here is a guess:

The d_60 files I found in Npc-Speech-Folders (in Data and Data-1.13) and Npc_Speech.slf (opened with DragonUnpacker) are for Dimitris comments on special sectors (like first visit Drassen Airport,Hospital, etc) and the like.

I couldn't find "d_060_100.wav" in any of those, so 100 seemingly realy doesn't exist (lower numbers are there).

I can't tell why the game is trying to open such a file, one of the coders might do.

Maybe Dimitri is trying to comment on the explosion (or sector entry, since it's happening for Airport and Hospital?)? Is he in your Team? If so, you could try if this is also happening without him to narrow down the problem.

Like I said, it's only a guess.

Muzzle flash works incorrectly, it is not shown as light for single shots (only for bursts) and enemy cannot react to it because fMuzzleFlash flags is turned off too early in UIHandleLAEndLockOurTurn by calling TurnOffTeamsMuzzleFlashes(gbPlayerNum).

Thank you so much for even a suggestion, I was close to giving up on the whole situation.

Now I have tried as you suggested without Dmitri and so far no crash, but of course this time around no explosion happened in the course of 3 battles not sure

When I next play I will force the issue by throwing an explosive once the turn timer starts with the enemy.

I know nothing, but I don't think missing speech sound files can cause a crash. My error log is full of "missing activation.wav" messages, and once I had a merc speech window pop up (IIRC Dimitri's), except it contained a "can't find some speech file or another" error message.

What I'm saying is that JA2 1.13 (8915-2579 vanilla, don't know about Wildfire) seems to be quite relaxed about missing sound and even speech files.

I would suggest to try an installation of vanilla JA2-1.13, without Wildfire, edit the arrival map and give yourself some explosives. If blowing them up doesn't cause any crashes, add Wildfire, try again. That way you should be able to pinpoint what causes those crashes.

Patch 6.04
Includes changes from Patch 6.02 plus the following:

Crash bugs fixed:
- Grenade through window crash bug.
- Freeze bug in random locations.
- Crash occured if NPC was hit by explosion and start speak with mercenaries same turn.

I can't download this (ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT), but isn't this a patch for the Wildfire.exe? The one for the complete Wildfire as sold on CD ?

As far as I understood, Russkie is trying to use 1.13 with Wildfire-maps and would therefore use an exe for JA2 since it's just the WF-maps.

The most up-to-date WF-maps I'm aware of should be 6.07 from SVN-link in Silversurfers signature.

I'm only saying that what he describes is a known bug in the JA2 Universe somewhere (be it Wildfire's EXE or otherwise) so maybe there is still information about this bug on the internet somewhere if we follow the clue about that Wildfire Patch. Any information gained may be helpful, or not, but it might be worth a try.
