Regarding to Strohmanns Post "New Game Settings" at the Frontpage of this Thread. (Starting to play JA2_1.13 (7609) + SDO + AR)
1. The things described there are mostly handled by DataSDO\JA2_Option.ini, do I get this right?
2. If so, do I asume right, that, if I want to effect changes ingame, I have to alter setting in this ini File instead of the one in Data1.13? At least, at a quick game start trial, the setting for Min and Max Imp-Attributes where taken from the SDO-ini-File.
3. Are there settings, I should be aware of, to alter in 1.13 rather then in SDO? Or is this nonsense, since only one ini-file per time will be chossen by the game?
4. And did I get it right, that all map-related things have to be changed in DataAR? Like adding a Beach-Resort Facility on the coast next to Chitzena, for e.g.
5. Things like adding taunts are still to be changed in Data?
6. Is there a logic behind, how the game decides which folder or ini-File it will priorize?
I'd sure be grateful if someone could enlighten me, thx.

@sevenfm
Cool. this information was very helpful. I looked into your modpack as an example while reading the Text provided by the link. Your structure had an example for nearly anything described, made it much easier to understand how VFS-Setup works.
As a training exercise for myself, I managed to extract and merge a version of "AR+SDO standalone + S&F" out of your 7609+AI-modpack. Quite needless, since AR+SDO is provided in the package allready, but a way to see if I did understand things - at least this far.
For S&F-mod working with AR I used map-editor to add the missing crates and changed maps a little. In shipment and delivery xmls, Drassen needed index 2, Meduna index 7, but adding Estoni was possible. Don't think I will play AR this way, since it might destroy the life out the land feeling, but again, helped increasing learning.
And while looking into S&F, I realized that my idea of putting the Beach Resort next to Chitzena, was what goc-man actually had in mind as he created it. In Standard AR it ended up south of Balime.
So, in the end, your answers and modpack helped me with facilities, I was touching the map-editor for the first time and got a better understanding of vfs-structure. Learing about a User-Folder alone is a big achievment to me. No more neeed of that many copies of the game, easy revert after messed up things, nice.
Thanks a lot for the several times you helped me.

Couple of times recently there was some interest in SDO on Discord, and I (or sometimes Seven) had to steer people away from it as it hasn't been updated for a long time, and, being the biggest SDO fanboy in the world, that shit really broke my heart. By now, it's pretty obvious that our god Strohmann has forsaken us
Since that is not the acceptable state of affairs for me, I've had been keeping my personal copy of SDO up to date (-ish) with changes over the years. And it's probably way past the time to make it public for people who want to give it a try, so I'm doing that.
This version I'm putting up today is almost certainly not perfect, as I had no plans of doing this, but let's start today. So, couple caveats:
1) There might be things that don't work. I haven't had a go at this lately, so there might be something new that needs some work. If you bump into anything, post it here, I'll try to fix it
2) There are things over the years that I fixed kind of quickly, and not worrying about other people, they were possible... eh, call it mediocrely done I fully intend to give them another pass soon, so it will be updated if needed (things like sizes of newly added 1.13 items, ammo colors and such "new" features)
3) Settings in files like Ja2_Options or Skills_Settings are probably some unholy combination of defaults, Strohmann's settings, my ideas of What Would Strohmann Do With New Stuff, possibly my preferences, and generally, who knows what. Give them a thorough look and adjust them to what you like
4) At some point in time I decided to ignore some small merc changes (mostly stuff like evolution) that Strohmann made as it made it easier to keep merc profiles updated, and they are really minor. So, my fault they are not there if you really want them
Further, I have no intention of doing anything about custom SDO versions of Wildfire maps or Arulco Revisited. The base SDO works just fine with default versions of those, so I'm leaving them in capable hands of Silversurfer and Kitty.
When I get a bit more time (soon-ish), I'll start a new campaign to see how it works, but in the meantime, if you are willing to give this kind of beta thing a try, feel free to report anything. I would have preferred to wait for the updated version of AR for it, but no pressure, Kitty anyway, for purpose of testing, it's probably better to do it on vanilla maps.
Probably needless to say, but just in case, the disclaimer: everything that is good about SDO was done by Strohmann. Everything that sucks about this version is purely my fault.
So, linky thing for download:

SDO r8957_g2585
I said I wouldn't, so I lied, sue me
This version also contains SDO's version of Wildfire maps, both the standard ones and the scaling loot ones. You still need to add the base Wildfire 6.07 for everything to work. Not super tested, but things should work (at least if they work in base WF 6.07, so for example if Silversurfer hasn't updated lua things for i.e. intel locations as I think he hasn't, they don't work).
Whether Arulco Revisited is going to be this "easy" to update depends on what Kitty does with it, so, no promises at this point

LatZee wrote on Mon, 22 March 2021 01:59Ok, so this time, let's make it more officialy looking
SDO for (at this point) latest version, v8955_g2584
Last time, I just put up what I had finished, but untouched in months. This is tested to work with the latest realease, and has some small quality of life adjustments too. Also, polished those things that I wasn't happy with how they were done.
So, download link:

I'll try to keep it updated with any changes in the future.
Where can I find v8955_g2584?

Hi there. Sorry, but could you explain how to get this working? I tried but had several issues with vfs files. Eventually got it working, but then had a persistent crash leaving the basement in Omerta.

EDIT: Disregard, FAQ answered it: Yes, I can. Overseen.
Can I use this SDO, the last-posted-one whith the most recent 1.13 version? I mean to retain latest changes from 1.13 while keeping items rework?
Also, what about covert items there? It was my prime motivation to look for some item rework which handles the problem of waterflask not having a covert tag and several other issues like that.

Cerhio wrote on Thu, 28 September 2023 11:18I'm having a hard time finding a single source for all this information so I figured I'd ask here.
I'd like to use SDO + JA2+AI + AR (whatever is the latest version).
a. what is the install process? i'm not as familiar with SDO or JA2+AI but is there some sort of "definitive" version of JA2+AR+SDO+AI floating around?
b. from what i can tell, there seems to be some pretty cool additions to SDO. is this SDO the same as your SDO? if so, can these features work in the latest AR version?
-
In general:
a.
1. install your original JA2
2. download the 7609-modpack by the author of 7609+ai
3. unzip download and put files into your ja2-installation, overwrite when asked
4. open IniEditor and choose mod (in this case, the vfs for SDO+AR) (or the ...+Loot variation)
5. choose data-ini matching the mod (in this case either Data-SDO or Data-User)
optional:
6. set resolution within IniEditor
7. run "cnc-ddraw-config.exe" in main directory and pick settings like fullscreen/borderless window, fps-rate, shader, etc. for better performance on modern OS and hardware
b.
It will have all features offered by SDO and the maps of AR
plus, all features/additions provided by +ai
- the 7609+ai project is a heavy tweaking to the exe and more. as the name implies, it mostly aims to improve the ai, so enemies will be kinda smarter - but it does much more
- 7609+ai also adds other things that may look unfamiliar when comming from standard 1.13, most prominent to recognize probably the changed UI and the additional information provided by it
- while +ai offers many cool things, the downside is that up-to-date information about this specific version can only be achieved after tackling some hurdles
- hurdles: information on +ai at this forum is only available up until early 2022, after that it's only available at russian forum or via the yt-videos by the author
-----------------------------------------------
And if you're refering to the SDO version provided by Latzee, that version is meant to update SDO to be used with latest 1.13:
a.
- install original ja2
- download latest 1.13 from gitHub
- unzip and put files into ja2-installation, overwrite when asked
- download Latzees SDO version from gitHub
- unzip and put files over what you assembled so far, overwrite when asked
b.
- since the base is latest 1.13, and not 7609, the 7609+ai can't be used
- since AR hasn't been updated to latest 1.13 yet (I hope to be able to provide an update arround end of the year), the combination of SDO+AR isn't yet available
- however, the SDO version provided by Latzee does already contain the combination SDO+WF (SDO happening on the WF-maps)
- it will contain all SDO features, same as the original (it's an update to match with latest 1.13, doesn't change content)
- it won't contain anything provided by 7609+ai, if you want +ai you have to use the one provided with modpack

Fantastic! I'm sure this post will get a lot of traffic. These are the best instructions I've found so far.
Edit:
Whoops! It looks like I forgot to put the link in my original question but I was referring to the SDO posts on the russian forum. Sevenfm posts screenshots and mentions adding in features and I wasn't sure if that was a separate version of SDO. I only read english so I can never tell if the info is correct or not.

It's just that seven often uses SDO to showcase his latest +ai-features
Whenever some of his new features/tweaks require some additional or changed files in the gamedir, he often puts those into the SDO-mod within his 7609-modpack to showcase how to use them.
In his youtube-videos about those new features, he usually adds a comment to explain which files need to be added/tweaked if so, and refers to having put an eample into SDO of his modpack
Like, in example, when he did add a springmine, the video comment is "Just a small update - added German S-Mine (Bouncing Betty) to SDO in modpack ..."
He also did add a lot of new crafting recipes for SDO (hm, in that regard it will differ a little from original SDO)
Most of those kind of additions shouldn't require the +ai-exe, if you know what to do, it could be added to standard 1.13 gamedir as well. But some things may require the +ai-exe (i.e., if he has defined a new flag, new behaviour of item, etc within code) or simply work different since things have changed between (standard) 7609 and now. If in doubt, better ask the author wether it requires the exe or not.
But all that is more about the 7609+ai and the modpack, not SDO specific. The SDO features themselves are described in initial post by Strohmann
