I rescued the reporter from the jail and then talked to the newspaper editor who told me bruce was to the north in the factory district. I am now in a zone which I believe is the correct one and there is no bruce. I also cannot move with the reporter in my squad. Is my game bugged or am I missing something???

Ps THIS GAME ROCKS!!!!!

From what you said, I take it you are in C5. Bruce is in C6. The game does not allow Miranda to travel through the strategical map when she is on sector C5, so you have to do this manually. (Why'd you go to C5 anyway?!)

I'm wondering... is there a way to rescue the reporter without shooting the whole police force to pieces?

OFF TOPIC

There is also a record in my history claiming that I should get the MOC-list (WTF??) to Agent X <-- Like where's the guy?

Evenmore, where did the rebels went to? I've heard some of the townfolks speak about them yet so far I've been unable to discover their hideout..

Does anyone know what to do?

I found a way to get her out without firing a shot OR dropping morale. I at first tried to shoot my way in, but this seriously fuc*ed my morale for some reason(bug?). So, I blew a hole in the back of her jail cell and went to map screen and moved the squad to the north sector. Easy as hell and morale went through the roof. Just be sure not to use explosives as they injure her turning her hostile. I used a nade launcher and it worked perfectly. I also returned to the sector and found the police were not even hostile to me or knew she was gone, as they kept talking about torturing her. Good luck.

Found bruce.... guess i should have looked harder.... ok new problem ... I walk up to bruce with miranda and nothing happens. when I talk to him he says he misses fluffy and then has photos to develop ... If threatened he says I have to rescue the reporter to get his aid... she is standing right in front of him..... GRRR!
I am not able to use her to talk to him ( not mouth prompt )

now what?
I know it is probably something small that I am missing ... Usually once they see the destination of escort there is a auto response/sequence.

Did you listen to all of Carmen's speech from Artemo A9? He explains what to do.

The MOC list is the list of names of mercenaries (or spies or something) that are on a hit list. Ever seen mission impossible? They talk about a MOC list.

You get the laptop from Carmen, and he explains how to go about getting the MOC list and uploading it to Agent X.

This is the main story of the campaign, from what I can gather so far.

I have the same Miranda bug. Talk to the newspaper owner, free her from jail, put her on escort, take her to Bruce and then . . . nothing. Bruce doesn't recognize that she is there (one square away!!!).

Just for good measure, I took her out of the sector and talked to the newspaper editor again. He seems to think that I brought him something important, but I didn't. When I go back to C6, same problem again. Bruce behaves as though Miranda doesn't exist.

@ Trailblazer:
Did you not understand me? I have savegames but not one with the laptop. I already sold the laptop and have continued with the game and overwritten the older savegames. There was no way I was going to restart the game, I have a job and am very busy, not gonna spend my life restarting mods over and over again. I'm sorry if this upsets you but I do think there should've been some hint that we should've kept the laptop, that is my opinion, and the last time I checked, I am allowed to give my opinion. I assumed the MOC list(which is a major part of the mod I'm assuming) would be a diskette or something of the type which once recieved would be listed in the files section of the laptop interface. Why do you assume that everyone thinks just like you and would know that they needed the actual laptop item to access the MOC list? So, excuse you. Ramfall was nice enough to help me out greatly and I appreciate his help and understanding, solved the problem. The work on the mod is great and if you have a problem with criticism then you're in the wrong business my friend.

@ KEV:

No, my friend, me and Ramfall were talking different things. This is not about the actual laptop, but about wanting things served in a dish. I am going to speak for myself personnally, and I don't know if the rest of the MODSquad agrees with me.

When playing a game, I like to discover things on my own. Playing for a moment, then Alt-Tabbing to a walkthrough, for example, doesn't do the trick for me. My own actions, be them good or bad, clever or stupid, but still a creation of my thinking is what makes me a part of the game. When playing Starcraft, I am not a guy clicking a mouse, but I am a commander of my own forces, threatened by the Zerg.

That said, when taking part into UC creation I still don't want information served on a dish. I don't feel it's right to tell you to keep that laptop till later, I want you to find it on your own. Selling the laptop was your action, and it doesn't matter if it's good or bad. This is what puts some flavour in your game. At least, that is what I believe and I will try to encourage this.

So, no, I shouldn't have told you to hang on to that.

Quote:
Quoting myself:
Perhaps you want a savegame moments before the game is finished as well?
My previous post is not relevant to a savegame prior to selling the laptop or not. I was emphasizing that you shouldn't be 'requesting' information like that, again, according to my point of view.

I have to warn you that UC requires you to dedicate some time to it, as with all non-first person shooter games. Since you seem unwilling to restart UC (and that's perfectly fine by me, as I never forced you to download it), you might as well delete it off your hard disk and I'll give you my personnal apologies for wasting your time. If, however, you are willing to sacrifice that time, that's another thing... But I really don't want UC to be such a burden for you. (Who's not busy with his work, by the way?).

Quote:
and the last time I checked, I am allowed to give my opinion
So am I. Hence, here is my opinion.

Quote:
Why do you assume that everyone thinks just like you and would know that they needed the actual laptop item to access the MOC list?
Ok, then why did you "assume the MOC list(which is a major part of the mod I'm assuming) would be a diskette or something of the type which once recieved would be listed in the files section of the laptop interface"

??

Quote:
and if you have a problem with criticism then you're in the wrong business my friend.
First of all, my friend, what does this have to do with critisism? What I personally didn't like is the request for information served on the dish. And when I don't like something I try to discourage this.

NEWS FLASH! You don't have to! Urban Chaos is supposed to entertain you. If it makes you so angry and dissapointed, then we have failed.

Trailblazer, here is how my log looks:

Day 11, D6 Urban - Battle won.
Day 11, D6 Urban - Rudolph is looking for some Crepaton Documents.
Day 11, D6 Urban - A reporter is rumored to be held captive.
Day 11, D6 Urban - A psychopath named Postie recently escaped.
Day 11, D6 Urban - Rescue Miranda and escort her to Bruce.
Day 11, C6 Urban - Battle won.

And this is where I got stuck. I parked Miranda behind some rocks, took the sector, found Bruce, talked to him, and then brought Miranda to him. At first I thought it might be my fault for "unescorting" her when the battle started, so I replayed the sector without taking her off the team. Same result.

I have done a reload and tried various combinations to trigger the ending sequence. I assume that you are supposed to get some photos that you deliver back to the newspaper owner, because his dialog is something like "Now I have the evidence I need . . ." but the log stays red for the various parts. There must be some trigger that sets off the end sequence but I am not sure what it is.

BTW, next time you do a mod like this, reduce the number of enemies or at least have the decency to include a few body bags in the starting inventory. :naughty:

Trailblazer,

One more thing. I think Miranda knows she has been rescued because if you unescort her in the presence of Bruce and then talk to her, you get a line like "If you are ever in New York, look me up. I would love to see you and your big gun again."

Hmm, alright, I tested this:

I go to D6, kill everybody then talk to Miranda. She offers me to escort her, so I agree. I go to C6, kill everybody then talk to Bruce. He says "Miranda? Can it be true" blah-blah, then gives me the evidence.

I don't understand what is wrong... in which order did you interact with the NPCs?

Trailblazer,

I think the order in D6 was as follows:

- Rudolph
- Plodski
- The detective (starts with a "B")
- Blew the wall and rescued Miranda

Left for C6, killed everybody and then talked to Bruce with a high leadership merc. I did not use the "rude" approach and kill all the police in D6, I just grabbed the girl and headed to C6. However, in the old JA2 it was optional to kill everybody in the Shady Lady - right?

@ Trailblazer:
You are over analyzing and overreacting. If you feel that a request for information is so wrong why are you even on these forums? Go attack everyone else asking for help or giving critiques. My point was that I think the mod squad should let the gamers know how important the laptop is. I have played JA2 and and UB all the way through without using any cheat codes so your assumption that I only want to "get things served on a platter" or I should play first person shooters is incorrect. Did I ask where the MOC list was? Where all the special guns are? No, but plenty other people in this forum are, go argue with them buddy. Maybe for you, after you get halfway through a game you like to restart and do the same exact things all over again, have the same conversations but I as many other people, do not like this. It is good to discover things the first time, you're right, which is exactly why I don't want to start the game over. As far as you saying that it would put "flavor" in my game not to be able to complete the MOC list quest, isn't that one of the major parts of the mod? I would like to play this mod and experience all if not most of what you guys created, not having to restart and go back over and over again. As far as you saying I should delete UC off my hard drive because it will take time, obviously you didn't read my post, as I stated Ramfall helped me fix the problem. UC does take a long time to play, but I can save it and come back to it, right? You think because I screwed up and sold the laptop I should restart?? I'm sorry, but that would be boring for me, do you like to watch the same TV show or read the same book over and over again? This point I am making IS my criticism; I believe the Mod squad should've let us know to keep the laptop. Do you not understand this? It is my opinion and criticism. And whoever said I was "angry and disapointed" with UC. You are now putting words in my mouth. I am not going to spend any more time arguing with you because it's useless and time consuming, but feel free to waste your time and reply, I'm done. I want to congratulate you on whatever work you did with the mod, but you need a serious attitude adjustment. :ok:

Trailblazer,

I might have found the answer. You get the quest twice, once from Randolph and once from Bruce. I think the secret is you have to kill all the hostiles, talk to Randolph, go to C6, kill the baddies, get the quest again from Bruce, return to D6, kill the police, get the girl, and then return. I never got the quest from Bruce until I killed all the policemen, and by that time I think the rescue had already been tallied because she was out of the D6 sector. The confusion might come in because Randolph tells you where she is, but if you spring her too early, the trigger doesn't work properly.

Or I am missing something, but I have played it several more ways since my first few messages and the order seems to be very important to getting messages, etc. Unfortunately, I don't have a save game close to day 11 where I haven't already rescued her, so if you have a fix I would love to hear it.

The way I did it is went to that sector first, killed soldiers(not cops as they were not marked hostile), talked to newspaper editor, went to north sector talked to the photographer, went back, blew a hole in jail cell wall with nade launcher, escorted her back to photographer, got the info, took it to editor and got reward. Hope this helps.

@KEV - you are right, we probably should've written that on the readme. We assumed players would think twice before selling something an NPC gave them. We'll correct that.

As for some nervous replies, I've had my share of those. Trail (and the rest of the team) worked extra-time both to finish the mod in time and to answer the help requests (couple of hundreds), so fatigue is beginning to show. Don't hold any grudges on him...

After many hours of trying to figure this one out, here is what you have to do.....

Talk to bruce FIRST. Get the mission to rescue the reporter. If you rescue her first he does not realize she is standing in front of him. Also talking to him after you rescue her he will not give you the quest. It did not seem to matter what order I spoke to the editor though.

Hope this helps

@ Col Leo Kelly: I am afraid a fix cannot help you, since if you have already visited this map, any changes in the NPC scripts will not take effect until you restart the game :whoknows: . I will review the matter, and hopefully prevent any such glitches in the expansion/patch/whatever.

@KEVs: I'd like to waste some of my time and reply, be it of use or no. First of all, I have never answered any question similar to "Where is the MOC list" and I will not. However, those that requested information like this did not say "The MODSquad should tell use where the MOC list is"... To answer your question, there are some other topics that I feel I can prove useful, and thus I reply. By the way I read a lot of books twice or thrice, but that's irrelevant.

Using the cheat to get the laptop back is sort of a fix, so I hope, until the Expansion is released (and everyone HAS a reason to start over), the matter is closed.

We'll consider adding an extra laptop in one of the end-game maps, for those capitalists too eager to sell Taiwan electronics to the poor Danubians. :biglaugh: :placard:

Just my two cents worth on the laptop thingy....

To my way of thinking, Mod Squad DID tell us to keep the laptop....when you get the quest from carmen he tells you that you need to use the laptop and the disc to get the MOC list.....clear as day, IMHO.

@past caring - yeah, lol, I remember that now. We also assumed people would remember the UB laptop - which was also vital. But it became apparent that no matter how much we try to make players pay attention to the details, in the intensity of the first game, most jump right into battle and don't read the infos. But who can blame them if JA2UC rocks, right? :rulez:

I forgot Miranda and Bruce already! Well, guess I can take her to Bruce some day. I've conquered, umm... Atremo, Calisto (SAM too), Galileo (SAM too), Sheraton (SAM too), cleared Port Kip and conquered Drake and it's almost day 100. My bro has conquered three places and he doesn't even have day 25. I think I waste too much time practicing my mercs. I just love to see them improve!

About Miranda, I just talked to Randolph, then killed all of the cops, and then broke her out of jail. I didnt even see Bruse until I escorted her to his location. First he gave me the quest, then he says "Oohh Miranda" or something like that and she is then unescorted.

What is funny is Bronski never turned hostile even after I wasted everyone in that sector. He just waited in a building for me to walk up and blast him.

I just put the laptop next to the terminal after meeting Carmen and left it there. Looked like it was one of those JA quest items you would need at some point.

@KEVs

Whenever I play a game like this one where interaction with several NPCs is needed, I take special care of items involved in this relations. So I never mind to sell the laptop given by Carmen. It's an unique item, so it seems that it would have a special use (different of that a cigar box, a coke can or an ammo clip has). Personally, I don't need any warnings about that, it seems OBVIOUS for me.
Selling that laptop is a risky bussiness... and only for a few coins... so you must assume the consequences of your actions... and read carefully when opens a dialog window. I have a friend that prints out all the dialogs in games like this one. He's a fool.
But in situations less easy to handle, I make other mistakes that eventually can lead my game to a dead-end. This is that is known as learn how to play. You must save game often and use different slots. I think I have at least 100 different ones for this game.

Good luck.
Tin.

I never found Bruce so I dumped Miranda, and walked away, or to Sheraton, where I found lots of bad guys that I now can serve you for dinner if you like.

Anyways, I found Blair and co, I did get them with me, game froze with the clock, though I only use 1 quicksave slot all the time, but I save VERY often.
So I quit Ja2UC with CTRL + ALT + DEL.
Reloaded, did the blairs got them in this time, and got them to the airport.

And I got a fancy reward.

I got another version of the Miranda problem.

Got the quest from Randolph, tried to bribe the police officers (to no avail) went north and vented some frustration, talked to Bruce, got the quest once again, went back, got Miranda, escorted her north. After talking to Bruce, he acknowleded Miranda's rescue (not before), Miranda un-escorted herself, and there was some dialogue. Bruce told me about some papers for Randolph, but I never got any. Yes, I had a free slot.

When I went back to see Randolph (in case no actual papers were needed), he just told me once again how bad his day had been, so he still thinks Miranda is in jail.

In my log I have the "Miranda rescued" entry. I hope nothing mission-critical was supposed to happen because of those papers.

BTW, I'm using an original 1999 JA2 (UK version).

You get 10,000 for the papers, nothing else.

The quest is a reworked angel, sister kidnapped to brothel, tatoo guy wants shop deeds quest from San Mona.

The papers didn't get put on the ground did they? Check the inventory for the sector.

No, that's the first thing I checked.
Thank you for the information. If it's only money, it doesn't matter. You can cheat that one back.

I had the same bug until I had miranda in my current squad. As a side note I never new bruce existed until I had to take Miranda to him, so that's not the issue. Oh, and I'm using the gold pack and succesfully got the papers.

I found that if I ditch Miranda, then escort her again, Bruce doesn't realize that she's been rescued.
If I keep her on the team without dumping her, everything works OK - Bruce gives the documents (which, btw, need their description altered in WEdit), etc.
