I guess I may be a little behind the times (everyone seems to be interested only in V1.13 now), but I got tired of playing the same old mods, so I created a new 62 map mod for UB. If anyone is interested, I would be happy to post these maps to this web site, if someone will tell me how. I don't know about you, but I like some fresh scenery once in a while.

Everything is useful and it's what keeps the game alive. All maps can be ported into JA2 anyway with the UBMapimport tool. This means your maps can be used by the 1.13 people amongst other things; though you might want to renumber them for that exercise to fit better with original Alrulco map?

I am willing to make these maps available to anyone who is interested, but I do not know how to make this happen. Also, I am not familiar with the UBMap import tool. Where can I find this?

UC tilesets: Subway has stairs I think.

Beta-editor. Dunno I use a heavily adapted UB-Editor.

Dunno. I'd like to know myself.

Make sure it wasn't accidently written over a cave map.

All within rooms/areas you can reach.

Open an existing underground map from JA or UB and study it's construction. You might even find the exit grid answer you're looking for.

Most of the stairs tilesets are in the debris section. They might not have many tilesets with stairs in UB editor. I can't remember.

The beta editor is available at kelle.de which is a good German Ja2 website. There are two English ones still out there and one does not work. I think kelle.de has the good one though. If you have a problem finding the good one, e-mail me and I'll send it to you. This tool is so much better than the UB editor you can do alot more and it does not need conversion to make it work with regular Ja2. The best part is, as long as you leave items out of your maps it will also work with the 1.13.

I have not seen this problem. Unless there is a structural obstruction they always end up where I put the exit grids. But I'm talking the Beta Map editor and not the UB editor.

In regular Ja2 maps there are some sectors that will not take a basement level labled (for instance) B11_B1.dat. B11 will not accept a map labled as the basement of it's own level but you can work around this by just using another sector name (B10 for instance) and just make the teleport go there. It is a little confusing but it will work.

I've always placed the validation points at the edgies just like an outdoors map and not seen any problems related to this. I've even made some basement levels where they are just a bunch of unconnected basements of buildings on the surface and had no problems here.

Glad to see there is another mapper about. We seem to be few and far between thanks to the glitchyness of the editor. If I wasn't so involved with my own project I'd be spitting out maps for the 1.13 (which could really use a new map set).

Ok, thanks guys, this helps a lot. But...I can't find the beta editor. I plugged in kelle.de and I don't think it's a JA site. Don't have the entire address. Also interested in the UB Map Import tool; I assume this allows you to import JA2 maps into UB? Can you direct me to a location? Thanks again.

Map Converter is there in UB Downloads Programmes.

You will also want UBMFE which lets you place Characters, Civilians, Cows, Cats, Crepitus, Hummer etc.

Prison set, Orta set, Omerta set have stair tiles. Bear in mind they're just a visual trick with no physical meaning other than the exit grid you hide under them.

Hi Pheebor,

Yes, it's always good to have another mapper onboard. I would be very interested in checking out your maps. I have Khor's email so I'll ask him. Or you could send them to me at:

john_nighthawk@email.com

If the compressed map file is too big for an email, put it up on a file share somewhere and send me the link.

See my link under 1.13 Downloads/ Extended tilesets to get all my stuff so far. Also check out my new thread under 1.13 General/ Start new map contest for details.

Sorry for not replying sooner, but it's been so long since anyone replied to this thread that I all but gave up. I don't return here very often; there didn't seem to be too much interest. I will zip the files and email them to you shortly. Yes, the maps are all playable; it is in fact a "campaign" called Takeover. Really nothing more than addditional maps for the original UB. If you play them, I would like to know your opinion of them. Again, sorry for the delay.

This is not just directed at you, Lockie, but anybody else who reads this.

Not sure if this was ever made clear, but these UB Maps are not just "maps". This is actually a 60 sector campaign called "Takeover" - requires a new folder under Data\Campaigns. There are no new quests or characters, just new scenery and (some tough) battles to be fought until you feel like taking out the missile plant. For those who like lots of equipment and money, there's lots of equipment and money. A few civilians too. And maybe a tank here and there. I put a lot of work into this campaign. I sure wish some folks would try it and send some feedback. I'd like to know if I should forget about this modding stuff, or try again. Or try harder. Or just quit. Hello...?

just a small hint from me: people are more likely to be interested if you put some nice colorful pics. That might also raise the chance of somebody commenting.

also, the lack of comments might also be related to the "out-of-fashion" state that UB has right now and not because your campaign wouldn't be good.

i'm having problems with my UB as well and haven't played neither your campaign nor Az's finishing touches campaign. ;-(

hey Lockie, are you still regularly playing unfinished business?

i haven't played it in a long time so i don't remember it exactly, maybe you can help me confirm something

i very vaguely remembered that the varrez map had a speciality once in one of my games. The enemies would be non-hostile civilians upon entering the sector and only turning into enemies later on!

My memory might be cheating me, or it was a bug, but if it was a feature then i should be most interested. Did you, or anyone else who's played some UB Varrez map, ever have such a situation?

thanks a lot for any feedback
