1 yes; 3 no, scare her away to rise loyalty; 4-5 pay Pablo, then send Irina after Iron; 6 no way (?), bandannas used with white (tropical?) helmets...

which leaves 2.

Svetja can lead the player to different locations in maps close to D13 (i think she either walks to e13 --> e14 or e13 --> f13)

the implementation is however somewhat sketchy (very beta-ish)

svetja has been a testing ground for some features. Also i think she talks about certain quests and locations, giving info? not sure about this one though

in this version of the game, the player can mostly ignore svetja, i think you can initiate her walking to different locations by giving her a raw diamond and then use irina or high level mercs in the next sectors to talk to her... only for people very curious people ;-D

what abaout that guy in the first town, argh whats his name again... He is next to a building in the first starting game sector, and he talks about bad people killing his parents and so on, looked around the whole friggin country and got no clues to his misson. So where to go, what to do? Or is it also a beta testing phase on this one?

The end was kinda surprising. Was ready for some armageddon or whatnot, got all my gang to that final sector, even Gasket (who was waiting to cut the tenth notch on his sniper rifle). Was getting men on position and trying out some armament I had not tried before

Norse: There is some guy who will admit having killed kamal's father. You find out who it was, kill him, take his passport as evidence to kamal, and the quest is finished. Kamal gives you a gun (afair) but this gun is not totally UBER, so early in the game, this can be useful, late in the game, the quest might not be very rewarding anymore. Of course it could easily be modded so a differnt object is given.

burzmali

there are two people that may want the chalize... but not necessarily, as the game can be finished without bothering about it, however parts of the two last sectors will play differently if you take a different decision at J9 and P3. There are then also different sub-decisions possible.

depending on how you've played at j9, you may have one or two people in the cut scene at P3. Either of them wants the chalize...

P3 is probably also where you've supposedly killed the general? Gotta remove him then i guess.

The Tank MG's ammo is supposed to be tracer... can be edited quite easily to not have tracer effects anymore. The explosive ammo is a bit bugged, that would require to be fixed too, but that's beyond what i can do.

Don simply gives that quest to Kill the guy kingpin is protecting... one of the terrorists. Some little bit of Mafya-war. The challenge is to kill this guy inside kingpin's house without KP going hostile... or if he goes hostile, kill them all together, but this is easy anyway.

the reward is again just an item, but think about it, we're in 1.13, we can add items as we like and could make cooler items for these quests.

there should be 6 (out of 7) working different endgame scenarios. They might differ by nuances only, but it is to show that alternative storylines are not impossible in ja2, and if we had any decent control of faction behaviour, we can add more sorts of plot turns.

so many of ja2 RR's features can be considered blueprints for certain modmaking ideas. One can only see some of those features after having played ja2 RR numerous times in different ways and compared the differences. it is like normal ja2 where certain things only become apparent after playing many times.

there's two different generals. if you watched the first cut scene, then you know you should only meet one of them in the end. if you don't watch the first cut scene, it might get even more confusing.

the idea is indeed that one of the generals runs from P3. But if he's too slow, i guess i have to scrap that.

both makes sene, 5 mins or a long travel route... i think it's okay that way cut you get the boats and the chopper and everything in this area of the map so mobility should be okay.

Nope, williams is just important for the quests he gives. That's the only thing you miss if shooting him. He'll still reappear in P3 ;-D

sister and brother... they used to be very close though.

Thug only does a short quest... moves to one sector west and shows stuff there...

If you prevent the guy in j9 from getting shot or rescue/ bandage him he'll give you a quest and will reappear in the end game.

Doreen - it could be about leadership level, my IMP had about 55 and it worked.

Document - there is a corrupt cop...

Diskettes - save, buy, look - and reload, if you don't like the data :wrysmiley: first says there is a boat around (or even two). second had a cryptic message and i don't even remember the third.

binocular - as in real life, you see further.

map - hmm, Batumi also is on firm ground mostly, not in the water like Venice. and there are more places where the map in not quite right.

lol

hope you won't be dissapointed. It is true, i see no way to get the final release in for christmas.

but a possible next version will support some new stuff, including a first go at compatibility to the new inventory system. however, there'd have to be a great stable NI exe first, and RR also requires a lot of improvements itself, and then finally there will have to be some serious adjustments made on top of it all.

so maybe next christmas Laughing

the first thing is a bug. certain quest log messages are hardcoded in the exe and it seems i forgot to adjust this one. you can ignore the message, it is wrong Smile
RR beta 17 is this?

warlord has some fighters there. There isn't really much purpose to warlord rather than killing him and getting his passport. If you talk to warlord, he will reveal that he's responsible for the assassination of kamal's father. You can kill him and bring his passport as evidence to kamal

killing warlord will, however, cause a sudden drop of loyalty in erewan. So if you already control erewan. maybe you shouldn't kill him.

47 and doc are part of a quest concerning einar, Mike and Butch as well. Basicly you can escort einar to doc and then afterwards decide what their fate shall be. (Mike and 47 want them dead, Butch would want them rescued)

How you handle this quest will decide whether butch will join your team or whether you can hire Mike

corrupt police is in sector I5

Ahmad leads a training camp of fighters in the mountainside. He is linked to Irina and convert by quest relations. He isn't as hostile as it may seem in the first glance.

lol. you discovered one of svetja's exclusive features, she can teleport herself Wink

but that's not the only feature of hers

yes, the erevan loyalty drop is unwanted behaviour. might be hardcoded though because of the character i used... i may have to do some character switches there to actually resolve it.

thug is supposed to be walking to the west... you have, however, to talk to him repeatedly and maybe need to switch between direct and friendly couple of times. He might require a bit of clutter-reduction in his script

in the intro animation opposition politicians are mentioned. I know this is a bit little.

City loyalty wouldn't drop because of the power stations. would be cool to have such a feature though

Don't know if this thread is for v17rr or not, but here goes..

First, this mod is a masterpiece. A little unpolished perhaps, but all of the playbalancing, from new scope system to early game lack of armour, high cost of camo kits, gobs of Warsaw Pact materiel, etc.: all very, very well thought out. So kudos, Scorpion. Excellent maps too.

Started an expert campaign, moved on Drassen, took airport..then cleaned out other 3 sectors, triggering queen's counterattack..which nearly wasted my ass, but was ENORMOUS fun beating. Much better than v1.13.

But after taking most of Baku, game has run into technical difficulties. On strategic screen on anything faster than 5min time compression, game totally freezes..computer must be restarted. Started up game once using v1.13 shortcut on desktop: is this the cause? Have I totally corrupted my save game?

thanks for the feedback

you're running the game from a shortcut on the desktop? Have you adjusted this shortcut so that it uses the ja2 RR B17 exe thing?

because if that shortcut still points to ja2.exe, you're most likely using the SVN 1080 or something exe. 1080 has a rather bad reputation in such regards, so this might accumulate with ja2 RR's own problems ;-/

you can easily find out if you're using the RR exe by comparing some text strings. what does it read in the green bar on top of the screen when it's your turn?

in ja2 RR, it sais something else than "player's turn". so if it still sais player's turn in your game, then you're probably using the 1080 exe or such.

The Scorpion,
Have continued playing rr17, with much enjoyment. All the new maps..amazing. You must've put some serious time into making this mod. Time very well spent, IMO.

Game is stable in tactical mode, ctd's about as often as normal 1.13 gameplay.

My game however still frequently CTD's in strategic mode, or worse, completely freezes the computer, requiring restart. Usually this seems to involve (I think) issues around miltia training. I.e., when militia in a town approach >50% veteran, then game freeze becomes more probable.
Today same happened with a crepitus bug attack in Baku. Game froze when the auto-resolve combat screen appeared.

I'm using the ja2.1.13 SVN, dec18, 2007 version. Is this the problem? What version of 1.13 do you reccommend using rr with?

Thank you again for crafting this masterpiece.

Hieronymos

this question has been answered before in several threads, try reading the first page, it's certainly there somewhere

hieronymos

Yes, you've found the one big issue we have in RR. The game often freezes when trying to load a tactical map, e.g. after placing mercs at sector edge, when auto-resolve battles happen etc.

i haven't found a clue to this bug, and nobody truly bothers to debug it because it is much more frequent in RR than in an unmodified 1.13

the 1.13 version you use is however not the problem, this bug has persisted through months and maybe years of 1.13's history, but only in RR's condition it has grown to show-stopper size.

i can only offer apologies. I had hoped i wouldn't be that bad... ;-/

ilja's only mission for you was to secure the supply route. he doesn't give more missions. In b13, c13 or d13 you can find a character "conseil".

talk with a high leadership merc to conseil in order to get new quests. of course you can also just explore the landscape too. There's almost the same freedom as in vanilla ja2.

max is a bit broken. I think i ruined his script in a last seconds change so this will have to be changed, but it's not your fault, it's mine. sorry.

some of the mines can only be activated if you conquer a port first. did you meet seawulf in D2? you have to convicen him to trade with you in order to be able to aquire money from some mines. These mines are not always the same, so this doesn't happen each game the same way.

Terry is unchanged in RR. Terrorist/ RPC

i think there is still a bit of work to do with Trabzon underground. ok, that is not bad that underground you cover distances in minutes that would take hours to cover on the ground. and even that is not a big deal that entering new underground sector there will be NE corner of the sector on the screen, not the place where the squad actually stands. a bit disturbing part is that dead bodies from P3 drop down into (unapproachable) places in the underground sector - with all their equipment and even equipment they should not have: i did not give chalice to Williams but killed him instead, after that there was a dead body with a chalice on it in the underground.

BTW of all the possible (or impossible?) endings i managed to find one that does not end the game at all, even when all bad guys are killed. got into P3 from the cellar, no soldiers around, only Oligarh and General there, both neutral. picked up the chalice, trained militia there, went and cleared P2 and P1. went back, killed those two - Williams and that good guy with wheelchair appeared. killed Williams, gave chalice to the other - who said that General run to the west. checked, no trace of anybody in P2 or P1. Ornald still thinks i have to find General ant that's it. even killing Ornald does not change anything.

if the general wasn't in p1, that's a bug. was it night time, or anything else special about p1?

the thing about the dead bodies i never knew... beyond my skills to fix that anyway

sublevels can only be left (meaning go up to normal level) through teleporters, teleporters always work instantly so the only thing to prevent this is to have undergroudn sectors only be awailable through the normal sector exactly above, which would reduce quite some of the fun.

those teleport things sure make diference: from, say, O3 to P1 in just one minute or 3 hours 18 minutes if you walk.

but for the General (another one, not the one i already killed in P3, yes?) i think the fact was quite special that there were not his men in P1 but my squad ready and waiting. so he emigrated straight to Turkey or whereever. (i seriously tried to find some situation you had not anticipated. not sure i managed it...)

it shouldn't make a difference. the general (yes, the other one) is supposed to be always in P1. The moving from p3 to p1 is just storytelling. So if he was never in p1, then that's a bug.

you have to talk again to him when he's on the road.
there must be something that moves him... different approach, high leadership... ther ehas to be something Wink

yes, he'll walk to the next sector regardless of whether there's enemies or not.

what is tricky is in the next sector. Once you get him to mode there, don't talk to him until after combat, sometimes he has problems walking to the right place in turn based combat.

Thug's quest isn't important. He just leads the player to some caches. You can find his stuff without him. But be careful...

thanks a lot for this input. This migth help other players too.

unfortunately, there's other sources of the map loading freeze too. I might think about disabling veteran militia but then how are players supposed to defend unguarded towns? that would be hard, and raising militia numbers isn't quite an elegant solution (if not even a problematic one)

hope this workaround will help you and other players to fight at least the defensive battles with less freezes.
