Reminds me a lot abotu JA2 for some reason although it has very little to do with the game itself.
Everytime I watch this movie, I tend to make a new save and try to replicate their gear as best I can. Very Happy

@ Willy

I haven't seen it for a long time, but I remember they at least had HK Mk.23 SOCOM's as their sidearm. I think the sniper had an M24, not sure. The rest probably had M16/M4's but I need to watch the movie again.

*Edit*
Right, I'm back with the info. Just watched the movie again and got a good look at their weaponry.

The team was composed of 7 men with two snipers, two machinegunners and the jack-of-all-trades guys.
The weapons were as follows:

An M60 and M249 SAW/Minimi and they also carried LAWS (the machinegunners that is).
2 M4's with red dot and nightscope optics aswell as M203's and suppressors.
The character who was played by Willis carried an M4 with the same optics but instead of an M203, he had a foregrip and laser.
One of the guys who carried an M4 had also a combat shotgun. All of them had as their sidearm a HK Mk.23 SOCOM with suppressors.
One of the snipers had a suppressed 14" or 16" M4 and the other had an M21. They also carried grenades and claymores.

I'm not expert in tac vests and such so I cannot comment on that.

Hope this helps, Willy and anyone else who was interested.

Hey, you're welcome Willy.

And indeed, I find it strange too that it was a 7 man team instead of the 5 but considering where they were, I guess that's why they had such heavy firepower with them.

This is definitely a JA-feel movie. Three ordinary Joes on a mission to free their kidnapped friend. They recruit a mercenary and hit south. Battles ensue and people die!

With actors: Robert Duval, Mark Harmon, Gary Busey.
Year: 1986

Just wanted to tip you guys on something not yet mentioned. (I think)

Cheers!

Thought I was one of the few people to know that movie. It is a JA feel. A bunch of amateurs rallying around a very experienced operator. The good old Days when professionals could advertise right in the pages of Soldier of Fortune. If someone ever did a retro JA game it would be some retired military guy flipping through magazines and making calls. The mission would make for a fun JA game complete with corrupt police, street thugs, and a camp filled with armed thugs.

Maybe you're hired by the US's ambassador to Arulco family to rescue him as a side mission and you have to bring along his kids or a former Embassy Marine.

Now, over to a movie I saw -83. What I remember of it was that a team of ordinary Joes got out on a mercenary run after money, somewhere warm. High moment was when one of the guys was trying to hit a guard unconscious...

Well, now I saw it on youtube / openflix

http://www12.speedyshare.com/search.php?im=http://i28.tinypic.com/2liv8uh.jpg

JA2 relevance:

- Brothel house
- Stealing cash from a local high roller
- M*E*R*C wannabe characters, one ringer for Biff included.
- Drop zone - with a great mix of weapons
- Prison - check!
- Rebels - check!

Hmmm, with JA2 glasses on it

Yes, Ronin works. I like the weapon buy under the bridge most. I saw a comment for the film Outpost (2008), that one works too. At least till the risen zombie SS troopers arrive.

Hi again!
Have had a run of remakes to watch. What turned out to be a treat was watching Assault on Precinct 13. Saw the original from -76 then the more plot filled remake from 2005.

http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee265/it4edda/Assault20On20Precinct2013-09.jpg

The film has:

- A jagged alliance of different factions.
- Some hot gun wielding chicks.
- Modern siege combat tactics. Much like defending a structure from being stormed by red-shirts...
- Large variety of guns.

- The plot could work as a scenario-play in "our" game.

What it isn

This movie itself isn't much of a JA like movie, but I think there's a character who's heavily inspired the creators of JA2. In Outland Sean Connery plays a law enforcement officer on a space mining colony. Main baddie Sheppard, the boss of the mining operation, is played by Peter Boyle and he reminds me a lot of head miner Calvin. Though Sheppard is actually a dangerous man and Calvin more of a joke, they have some common characteristics. Both are proud of their well producing mine and they have somewhat threathening attitude towards the good guys. Also, Boyle looks quite like Calvin. In Outland he has a big beard, but regardless I instantly associated him with Calvin.

Btw, thanks to everybody for excellent movie tips so far in this thread! I especially liked Uncommon Valor, but many more good ones have also been mentioned.

Ok, let's keep it short and simple, shall we. One of most dramatic combat scenes ever: CQB scene involving machete, full-auto LMG firing and hand-to-hand combat. Warning: acts of violence and gore, do not watch if you are for any reason especially sensible to this kind of motion pictures.

65 seconds of LS&TSB.

i found this one here, aptly named "Soldiers of Fortune" from 2012:

Quote:
Wealthy thrill-seekers pay huge premiums to have themselves inserted into military adventures, only this time things do not go exactly according to plan.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1678051/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soldiers_of_Fortune_%28film%29

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OozVGThNGUk[/video]

the Movie has quite a high quality cast with many well known actors (Sean Bean, Ving Rhames, Dominic Monaghan, James Cromwell, Christian Slater) and a quite Jagged Alliance like setting and feeling to it to the point, that i imagine the producers were actually inspired by JA.
actually, i could quite see a nice mod based on the premise of this movie!

anyways, probably the best mercenary themed movie of 2012 so far.

and here are links for streaming: http://www.1channel.ch/watch-2734108-Soldiers-of-Fortune

The Mercenaries - Dark of the Sun

A gritty mercenary movie set in Congo. It's brutal and very dark in tone, though I only saw the cut version with implied brutality.

Good tip there about Dark of the Sun. There seems to be quite a lot of these kind of movies made in that era.

Wow, I can't believe nobody has mentioned Dogs of War!
It's about MERCENARIES being hired to take back a country in Africa from a dictator. They specifically use the local rebel soldiers for the bulk of the fighting while handling the specialties such as machine guns or grenade launchers. It's almost Jagged Alliance 2: The Movie. CHECK IT OUT!
