Dear Stracciatella team,

you really closed a gap. Maybe the weak copyright did not allow for the care that an ambitious project like JA2 needed. That is when people like you enter the scene with applause.

I spent one month's afternoons to do, what I tried for years: playing the game without reloading at control mistakes. Before Liquorice most games have been broken by bugs and some by mayor contorl mistakes. Not so now. Slay shot Deidranna. I have finally come to liking the vanilla game as it is: plain normal guns, scifi, saving anytime and harder difficulty; Thanks for this experience!

I still stumbled upon some in-game bugs and would like to give a brief report. Three kinds of errors occured. One kind happend randomly, when some walls were broken by bombs. Loading the error-savegame allowed for playing on, as if the CTD never happend. Another kind of error happened while loading some non-hostile map. The red bar filled and a debug message popped up like: "unable to load sector, press esc to quit". Fortunatly in all cases there was a recent savegame at hand. The third kind of error happend in almost every town once, when attacking a sector at night. The red shirts had day vision for the first turn-based round. My workaround was to be camoed and hidden for this first round. Then I sneaky left the sector without loss of loyalty and back again the error was over.

I would not call it a bug, but once I broke the tactical engine by dropping lots of items faster, than the animations could display it. Secondly, moving turn-based in prone stance was sometimes weird. I tried to move for the last 4 AP 360

I have it too. It's a rather recent bug (probably not more than a few months old). The funny thing is that if you quit the game, start it again and load the same savegame, it will work! Maybe one of the hundreds of global variables to reset.

It also happens when you're trying to drop an item and a cutscene interrupts. Your merc is stuck and the item vanished. You can save and reload and your merc will be free, and the item lost.

Do you refer to vanilla bugs or bugs in introduced by JA2-Stracciatella? In either case, I'm interested to hear about it.

Please be more specific. When an error-savegame is created there is a message beforehand with some details. Also a description what happened just before and a savegame would be helpful.

I need a savegame to investigate. How often does this happen? A more detailed description how to trigger it would be helpful, too.

How do you determine this? Do you have a savegame at hand, which demonstrates the problem? How to reproduce it?

Or do you mean that the AP costs are incorrect?

The displayed AP cost is incorrect at least for throwing knives.

Most of the time it's off by 1. If you are already standing up when you throw your knife, it will cost one AP less than displayed. If you start crouched, it will cost one more (the 2 AP needeed to stand up are probably not taken into account). It's probably worse if you start prone.

I noticed it with bad mercs like Hamous, Biff, Flo, i.e people who never instantly kill their target. But it's probably the same for all the mercs.

It's a rare bug which happened to me only twice for 70 days in Arulco. Twice in the same sector, the central SAM site, day time. Twice after a battle there.

It's not possible to make a savegame for that because, as I said in my previous post, when you run the game again and load the sector, it works.

When the sector is loading, you see the blue bar, then the red while it shoudn't happen and the game says it couldn't load or find the sector file, I don't remember the exact terms. The error message must be irrelevant unless you tampered with the file library recently (a few months ago).

I don't have many clues on that bug, but I believe you need to fight in a sector, load another after the battle and come back to the original sector. Can't tell more.

I read your mails. Something seems to be broken with the cost calculation for throwing knives. Probably I'll revert my first try to correct the costs and I have to investigate further.
Can you send me your test savegame(s)?

It's not much, but when loading a savegame now (r5828) fails, a reason will be printed. Maybe this helps to find the problem.

Hi Tron,

This has been bugging me for sometime but is it possible that you update the JA2-Stracciatella homepage to reflect the newest version (v0.11 - Liquorice) there. So far, the latest version posted there is still v0.10 code name "Caramel".

Thanks.

I cannot change anything there. I do not have any administrative access to this page.
