Looo(oooooo)ng time lurker, first time poster - hello everyone, thanks to the mod squad for making the best game ever even better, and happy new year Smile.

Now, to the subject at hand: I've been working on a slightly different item mod, with high attention to tiny details - mainly for my own 'internal' use, as i really like micromanagement and JA2 (especially 1.13) is THE game for that. However, i have encountered a certain problem with attachments - in order to minimize the amount of repeated entries in the weapons.xml (and to make certain items easily reusable), i wanted to use attachments that either allow usage of other attachments, or that can take attachments of their own. In case i wasn't clear, here's an example of what i want to achieve:

Glock 17
- cannot take any muzzle devices by itself
- can take a compensated barrel + slide set, OR a threaded barrel
- if a threaded barrel is used, either the pistol or the barrel can have one of the muzzle devices (9mm sound suppressors, flash hiders, etc) attached

I did manage to get it sort of working, as in i can attach a suppressor to a threaded barrel and then attach the barrel to the pistol, but the weapon only gains a bonus from the barrel, and it is not possible to unattach the suppressor without dismantling the barrel first

I also know that it can be done by merging items (G17+comp barrel->G17C; G17+threaded barrel->G17SD) and having the result items work with certain attachments, but it's not a particularly tidy solution, and certainly not the best one for scope mounts and similar items that should be reusable, but do not (or at least should not) produce a replacement item during the merge process.

So, is that possible? If so, what am i doing wrong? Smile Thanks in advance.

welcome to the Pit Ko5ma

i don't think the feature you think of currently works. There were some remote plans about making attachments more versatile, but with the guy who could have done it dissappearing, the guys talking about it had to shut up (temporarily)

What you can do is go the "combo" way, e.g. scope Y doesn't attach to weapon X, but if you combine Scope Y with rail Z you get a new item "Scope Y on rail Z" that does fit Weapon X. Not *exactly* what you wanted, but similar effects can be achieved, not many new merges are needed, no need to bother with incompatible attachments section.

Alternativly (or, additionally) you could go over rail systems that are compatible with some attachments but not with others.
E.g. your rifle has a default attached rail A which is incompatible with scope X but compatible with scope Y. Rail B on the other hand would be compatible with Scope X. That rail A is also incompatible to rail B, so you can only use one of the rail systems, they'd mutually exclude it each other.

Admittedly, crude workarounds. Attachments enabling other attachments or changing a weapon's cursor or other dynamic features would be really cool to have for such purposes.
