Bad Timing
My first time with JA2 in years, 1.12, Ironman-Mode, medium difficulty. Had just taken Tixa (Drassen, Alma, Balime before), came in with the Hummer and decided to split my squad. Conrad was fairly badly injured so I thought he should drive Shank with the Hummer to Estoni while the others make their way to the central SAM site. Basically, I had forgotten about my main squad and encountered a patrol of nine guys on the road to Estoni. Should have thought about that beforehand really. So all I have is Conrad and Shank - night time at least, but no night vision goggles (nor is Conrad a NightOp).
Basically, I had to try this over and over again. Shank I just left waiting in some corner. Conrad had some mustard gas and a gas mask so my idea was drop the gas right in front of him, fire a single shot and run back a bit. That did kill up to three idiots, but sooner or later Conrad dropped dead because he was spotted first. On about the 12th try, nearly ready to give up, I take it nice and slow, circle around the area, and one by one the enemies drop. Only one left... oh, I do hope I find the bugger before he sees me. Yeah, there he is - and dead he is. What a relief! But then the message appears "we found some enemies". The main squad just arrived at the SAM site and I'm immediately drawn to their battle with no chance of saving the game. And in my frustration I didn't think about having them withdraw, save, and return, but entered the battle immediately. I now knew that if I fail this one, I'd have to do both battles again. Boy, that was the tensest moment ever.
Everybody survived in the end, though my IMP only by a bare thread. Conrad recruited Maddog and on their way to Cambria later they even found Hamous so everybody was in Cambria with two cars, the Hummer for the main squad and the icecream truck for the militia/repair backup (Gasket, Ira, Flo, Biff, Buns - I had Hamous shot, of course).

Reloaded vanilla fudge JA2. Felt just like meeting an old friend for a beer at our favorite hangout!
Right off the bat I get a priceless moment...
Ice is on the roof hanging out at the Cambria mine, while a camoflaged Dimitri is being busy taking out the garrison with a sack full of throwing knives. Dimitri hears some noise coming from the storage shack....and Ice decides to see if he can lend a little aid by tossing a lite-stick by the shacks door.
Ice is safely out of visible range, but I ordered him to crouch before the light landed and flared.
"Mike! This is a sitiation ain't it!"
Meanwhile Dimitri notices that Mike is staring at the direction the flare came from, with his BACK turned. A bit out of range, but Dimitri winds up and flings a new blade the long distance.
If Raven were around, she would have said, "Problem solved!"

I just found out, why the characters of the mercs seem so real: sometimes, very rarely, the comments fit the situation more than perfect... I was attacking the mine in Cambria from the north. I hate that, because you basically have to start right in the crossfire, but I didn't really have the time to walk around and attack from the SAM site... anyway, my A-team of 5 (2IMPs, Thor, Wolf and Conrad) tried to find some cover behind the main building while the militia did their job as cannonfodder and distraction. So the IMPs secured the roof, Thor and Wolf worked their way to the eastern corner and Conrad waited at the western corner, shooting everybody in his line of sight. Nice tactics, everything goes as planned, the enemy moves right into all my traps... but then, some green militia goes completely psycho and decides to fire about 20 rounds of 9mm HP (or glaser, don't know) across half the map, promptly hitting Conrad in the back with most of it. Without his armor, he would've been gone at this point, but he only went down with about 20 damage and breath to zero. No problem, I thought, let him drink some water and then continue his work... the only problem was, that the very same militia still got some ammo left and fired another burst of 15-20 rounds, right at the moment when Conrad got up again. Luckily, this time most of the bullets did not only miss whatever they were aimed at, but also Conrad's back... at this moment, his only words were:"I didn't train them, obvoiusly!" Man, this guy has not only one of the coolest voices, but also nerves of steel... ^^

Mine may not seem to be very big with all the pros out there, but for me it was a good effort.
I had just taken Drassen (in vanilla, not 1.13, so no couterattack), and had just set about searching east for Skyrider. I looked around in the swamp and eventually found the sector he was in, but unfortunately so had some redshirts.
Since I had only sent out one character (my IMP) to search for SR, I was outnumbered rather badly, however, my IMP was rather stealthy and so I set about sneaking up to the cottage thingo where Skyrider hangs around, but upon getting there I find that ALL of the enemies were set up right at the front door. So I wasn't sneaking out of this.
Since this was just at the start of the game, all my IMP had was a silenced pistol and a knife versus rifles, shotguns and SMGs, I initially started considering retreat, but uopn trying I find an enemy partol had cut off my only escape. Not reatreating either.
Having no options left, I decide to set up in a small group of trees providing me with almost 360 cover and then wait for a good shot.
Finally, it comes, a hit right in the head, but the guy who was hit lived and called ALL of his buddies over. And so began a barrage of bullets that would have completely destroyed real trees, but alas, they failed to even hit my IMP once. Thinking that I was screwed, I set my pistol to burst and started spraying the reddies with lead, hitting several of them but taking no hits in return (although he was starting to get a bit worried with all the metal flying around his head.
In the end my IMP managed to solo nine redshirts and two yellows and only took a single pistol round in the leg which he healed himself.

my favorite moment
setting up for the battle in Dressan, having my mechanic create quite a few Molotovs, setting them around the map in areas i think they're going to stop to fire at me and thus grouping up, also putting loads of grenades in the same spot as the Molotov
set all my guys up on the toilet block and waited as soon as they start to get into range my 2 snipers start taking the ones that are getting closer in than the explosives, my support gunner crawls around picking off the ones that the snipers cant see, then once enough have grouped in the areas i laid the traps, my explosives man starts letting off the mortars, getting damage from the mortar round, the flame from the Molotov and some extra damage when the grenades go off under their feet, repeated in 4 or 5 spots of the map taking out about 100 of the attacking force and allowing my gunners to do the rest of the job
all it takes is a bit of planning and i get to see about 60-80 people burn into colored ash piles

Am now playing JA2 again, this time with english sounds - feels like a first time ever))
Met Mike (hm-m, yeah, favorite one, what can I do?)). Decided not to kill him as always, so was just playing around (still I wanted to get his gun anyway). Left to him was Scully hiding behind the wall and right to him was Gus claiming that his idea fix was to kill that guy =) (Well, you know him). So next Gus had stohlen his attantion and Scully threw a granade. Mike, being deafen, fall unconscious and Scully took his gun... But I was kinda interested what that guy will do next - he stood up (being critically wounded) and hit Gus. As I decided not to kill him, Gus tried to run away, but that guy cathed him, knocked him sensless, took his gun and then shot down Scully.
Well, NPC's are smarter than I thought = )
And BTW I tried to bandage him but he "refused medical help". don't know if all the enemies do so, but it looked quite brave

you can (could? depending on version?) do this with your own mercs too
place one guy prone to a wall and try to walk over him with another guy. it used to work, not sure what versions it odes or doesn't. :whoknowns:

Yesterday I had a priceless moment.
Playing JA2 Vanilla - sitution: storming Tixa basement level.
My IMP gets interupted and pumped full of lead as he is mopping up the remaining guards in the gym area. Hes laid out near death and a bad guy moves in to finish him. Trevor comes racing up to riddle the red shirt but misses from 5 tiles away with 2 auto fire bursts [only 1 bullet hit!].
The red shirt responds but putting a burst back into Trevor, dropping him onto the deck. My nearest merc is Grunty but he's at least 1 full turn away. It looks grim for the IMP and Trevor.
The red shirt then fires again on full auto through the doorway at Trevor and manages to hit the doorway entire, all shots missing Trevor! He then fired one shot at my IMP, and also missed!
Grunty comes stormin up and fires his RPK-74 on auto and does 154 points of damage to the red shirt, saving both Trevor and my IMP.
Never in the field of human conflict has so much been owed by so many to one doorway!

hehe... some of these are funny as hell. well, here are mine
i was defending the sam site near chitzena, so beforehand, i put two snipers on top of the buldings, my stealthy guy near the fence wit a ghuillie suit and my automatic weapons imp to the very northeast corner. well everything went well, until these brownheads with their red shirts had to call in grey reinforcemnts from the north, fortunately it was night. so there was my imp in the northeast corner, hearing noises all the time, so i figured i turn him around. there he goes with 5 GREYSHIRTS about 5 squares away at gunpoint. i decided (forgetting to quicksave before) to blast them away with a whole magazine from my tar21. well, there were 24 bullets gone, having killed 5 greyshirts IN ONE GO. when i saw that i slapped myself and stood up from my chair with my mouth wide opened xDDD.
another classic one was the assault of meduna. i had gus go and fire a rocket at a tank, with a greyshirt about 7-10 sqaures in front. so there goes the rocket, goin THROUGH the greyshirt (with the notation 'soldier hit in the head') killing him AND blowing the tank to pieces. the weirdest thing about that was that the soldier's head didnt blow up into pieces.
and here goes THE magical moment of all the campagns of JA2.
i saw scarface a couple of nights before, so i decided to start a new campagn with an imp called tony montana xD. a couple of weeks later im in the queens palace where the throne is. i had my stealthy merc go around the corner from the other side, who spotted 3 greyshirts very close to the door of the throneroom. so tony released a rocket, blowing the door away and almost killing everybody behind it. next round i burstfired everybody with tonys tar21 instead of using someone else just for the look xDDD somewhat ironic isnt it?

Not quite a priceless moment rather than a priceless moment giving game...
I got bored with the ordinary gameplay so I decided to try something different-MGS3 like game with just the IMP. The game just changes, from a strategy it turns into a survival game with just one merc who has to manoeuver through the sectors of the map to the final destination.
Advantages:
-No more worrying about towns taking over and keeping them.
-When too many enemies are in sector one can always escape without much consequences.
-No need of money, you arm with what you can find, so the money goes to charity(actually buying weapons from BobbyRay and delivering them to various locations all over the world.)
-Many opportunities to do various heroic acts, such as wiping out 20-30 enemies in sector all by yourself.
Disadvantages:
-Small inventory, has to arm with essential stuff only(what remains in sector is sold to locals).
-Can be easily overrun by enemies if not positioned well, plus, has to change positions frequently and use stealth to eliminate the enemies.
-When time is needed for a recovery of wound or for sleep a squad of troops entering your sector isn't very nice...
But it's cool to play anyway...
Here's how I took out the hicks(just because I needed weapons and ammo and I was near them)
The attack was at about 11:30 at night...usually night's the time to attack, since the stealth/night ops combo is the best for such lone infiltrator who is going on an assassination mission through a small country. So my position was in the south west corner of the map.I approached the housing buildings and interrupted an enemy-2 headshots with a silenced pistol and he's down...noone heard of him. When I got close enough I threw a mustard gas grenade through the window(results later showed 11 death people in the room), which took out the majority of people and the remaining part was just sneaking around and shooting everyone that can be found. But whiping out so many people with a single grenade is just priceless, showing how important can be the tactical planning.

1.13 mod
IMP nails 3 idiots with the M82, killing 2... (Drassen counter attack)
Fidel, being the last line of defense (again, Drassen counter attack), only has a C1 with remote detonator on him, and like half a mag worth of AK-74 rounds. So, he plants the bomb in the intersection in the middle of the map, and hides with the detonator. enemies run up, run up to the bomb, and away from it. that's going on for like 8 turns. Then, Fidel fires one round, and all of them rush towards him, ending up like 11 people on the bomb... with explosive damage doubled, there was A LOT of charred people... kinda funny watching a crowd of burning people jumping/flying through the air...
Ghetto way to take out a crowd of people - 3 mercs, chuck a stick of TNT, and then a grenade.
Ira's act of heroism - Ira, with just a medkit, .38, and a flack jacket, runs up to Fidel, who passed out to heal him with IMP covering her. outta nowhere, 2 guys pop out - an Elite and a redshirt. my IMP nails the elite in the head with Mossin, not quite killing him on an interrupt, but redshirt has no points to fire. so, next turn he is dropped by IMP, and Ira, being 10 squares away fires one shot with her pea shooter, nails the Elite in the chest, and gets a messy death on him... The only shot she ever actually hit what she is aiming for the entire game...

I have three priceless moments:
One when a character fired a round through an enemy's chest and into a second enemy killing both instantly. Thinking she had missed, the character shouted: DAMN!
Another was when an enemy charged Lynx, who was out of action points, and was just two tiles away when Gumpy (who was still level 1 with around 47 marksmanship) got an interrupt. He was about 20 tiles away with a hollow point .38 revolver. He claimed he couldn't hit the man's chest, so I told him to aim for the head.
He hit for 98 damage.
The final priceless moment was when I wanted to test out the m24 (hollow point) so I had Hitman take aim at Ira from about 80 tiles (he had a sniper scope, I was testing those as well). The shot went wide. It hit Blood, who should have been completely out of danger, in the head. However, the rifle did prove its effectiveness, and I kept it. It blew Blood's head off at 60 tiles through his compound 18 spectra helmet.

I was having some picnic in the queen's garden. I wanted to infiltrate the palace through the tunnels so I was holding the sector while healing up/repairing and training militia in the other sectors. The queen kept hitting me, not too hard but hard enough to annoy me. With unlimited refills on, I knew I wouldn't be able to just grind her down and I knew she wouldn't be able to grind me down, so the situation was static.
Every 6-8 hours, day and night, she sent in 20-40 guys, right when my mercs were patched up and in need for some sleep before going underground. Every attack cost the life of 15-20 militia who never lived enough to even become regular ones so I was in constant need of training new green ones. I couldn't establish a tight defense with militia all alone. This went on for a few days with no end in sight. When I had about 50 localss around and really was tired of the situation I thought to give them a try, retreated and let the game auto resolve the latest attack.
I had 49 Militia, around 3 veterans and 5 regulars who lived through the battles before, the rest of them green behind the ears along with 2 tanks with the one's position useless.
Deidranna sent in 3 SS-Men and one SS-Woman along with 16 strong and brute men freshly recruited from the local San Mona gay disco. Not so bad,
I could guess her setup due to the recent attacks. She usually sent one or two snipers with their squads or something like that. So there will be around 6 snipers, maybe one or two LMGs they can't properly use, some special ops smgs and assault rifles and probably no mortar. I had the feeling she pretty much copied my style all along. I knew my militia couldn't cope with two elite snipers who I had seen taken out 15 rushing green guerrillas at daytime while I couldn't help them. Worse than mortars. So i watched the battle begin. The sound of the weapons pretty much sounded like my guessing.
When the first SS-Man dropped I thought to myself well if they manage to get rid of those 4 elites in time, 30 green against 15 red could pull that thing off. Some moments later, the score was down to 14 vs 14 with three queen's guards left. Our numbers kept dropping while their's kept constant until it stood 1 vs 14. My only guy in charge now was some green barret looking grim probably wielding an M14 while standing his grounds.
Humming Dido's "White Flag", he began wiping out one after the other, the remaining enemies began to drop until it stood 1 vs 8 without him having even a scratch. (I don't know, he must have been in some place he couldn't get hit, I once had such a place in Estoni, either that or something else.) I suddenly felt for the people of Aruclco and their guts to stand up for their cause. My brave green beret went on slaughtering the rest of the attackers without blinking an eye while I prepared the victory celebrations. When the numbers dropped down to 1 vs 3, the game crashed to desktop.

I already had 18 mercs. 3 combat squads (6/4/3) and the rest for training milita. I could easily have left some guys behind to do the defense work, but I wanted to bring all my battle worn soldiers along, after what they have been through they deserved to see the bitch die.
