No,you haven't.Typing error,of course it was "Urban Chaos".
Had a priceless moment somehow similar to Headshot's in JA2,in the "passage" sector, two squares above Estoni, when two patrols converged and the sector was occupied by more ennemies than I could count.Expert,of course.Imp and Ira,with Rugers and silenced MP5s.
And in spite of the bloodcats being present, and the position,(maybe because of the lack of buildings),it was the only battle I couldn't win.Or lacked the patience to.

Hah! ...

Reading this thread reminds me of one battle I encountered in WF.

I was on my way to Grumm, via Estoni, during the night. I had to pass the road which connects Cambria and Grumm, when my AlphaStrike team encountered a mountain outpost. The map indicated 20 soldiers defending the sector.

I was just beginning to maneouver my team when I got interrupted by a bloodcat roar - scheisse!! - I had to pull back and let the enemy handle the blood suckers. While all of this was happening, I was fortunate enough to run back for cover. The bloodcats were only able to kill one soldier. After the smoke cleared, I proceeded with my attack.

I setup my ambush squad behind the trees overlooking a steel fence with an opening. I was able to take out 11 guards as they rushed to investigate the source of gunshots. When no one else was willing to fall into the trap, I tried to flank the sandbag fortifications from the left. I was quite sure that there were at least three snipers, while the 4 sandbag fortifications were hiding the remaining soldiers.

Sure enough, I got interrupted and one of them threw a break light - exposing the only passage I had. My front-assault tandem was forced to pull-back, after sustaining some injuries, while my back-ups were providing some cover fire. My medic quickly attended to the wounded while my back-ups are now being overwhelmed by mortar fire.

I was trying to hold my ground when suddenly, my medic saw some enemies coming from behind. I was thinking, "Shit man!, the enemy cannot be this good to outflank me" ... and there was not only one, two or three enemies. It was like a scene from Attack of the Clones. In the end, my worst fear was confirmed - an invasion squad of 20 soldiers was passing by and now acted as reinforcements. They were heavily equipped.

As I desperately tried to carve out an escape route, there was no denying that this was the end. Running exhausted with open wounds, I was trying to hold them back by throwing grenades. I got a turn where all were gathered in one area trying to catch their breath. But with a wicked smile from fate, .... SWOOOOSH .... a single LAW toasted them all.

What a waste ...

Damn, that was a nice one... Ok, sad, but I can imagine the rush you got, when all that took place.

One of my first priceless moments was all the way in the beginning of my JA2 career, when I was attacking Drassen. Naturally it was in the very beginning of the game, and all of my mercs had crappy guns. I can

LOL, poor MD, though he's a knifer...

...now for something substantial to post...

Ah sometimes a burst hits target with all shots, that always brings a certain satisfaction.

-at other times though the NME still ain't down after 'absorbing' all that, just as priceless but on the negative side...

New moment... I used my new favorite merc Buzz for this one. Buzz had an RPK-74, and opened a door. Three redshirts standing side by side by side, two where already wounded and had ran away or something.

One burst, blew em all away. And then naturally a greyshirt steps out after i finish my turn and pops Buzz in the head twice, killing her. Well at least Lynx was happy.

Not really presenting myself in the best way...
But while the squad was mopping up San Mona, I had hit Billy (not killed), he ran off into 'the alley' left of the porn-shop.
I couldn't get at him instantly because of more NME's in bewteen. (he was the last one left at the end)
The priceless thing happened at end-of-turns, when Billy's health dropped some points he screamed, his 0I's were so FUNNY I started wondering if I'm not a sadist.

edit: Nocturnal (in another topic): "Fidel was having a wonderful time", cracked me up

Tixa prison(my favorite playing ground, i always look forward to liberate Tixa again and again):Raven is on the roof of one of those two small block houses near the entrance plinking at enemy guys in the prison.Hamous is hiding behind that building, in front of the open door of the same empty house. A grey (unseen) grunt fires a LAW at Raven, cant really hit her on the roof, and the rocket blows open a portion of wall. Hamous: 'I see them! I see the naughty man!'(through the new hole in the wall). Bang-Bang: grey grunt dead.Hehe, he better saved that LAW for later. Smile

This belongs in UB (one of my own sectors), but I quite enjoyed it when Haywire flipped and let loose a 5-shot burst. About half of the bullets hit and killed the target; the rest smacked into a gas pump, blowing it up and hurting a nearby unseen guy. That guy's pal then aimed his shotgun at a charging bloddcat, but instead hit another gas pump, blowing up the aforementioned hurt guy.

And I was quite proud of how Shank managed to gain 4 levels in a single night in San Mona (22 fights in under 10 hours). In another place, he even got a level for being shot in the head; small consolation to normal people, but he didn't mind.

Or how about that Bull, eh? I love this guy. Especially when he came face to face (i.e. adjacent to) a guy with a shotgun. Bull didn't even have a helmet, but he took the full 76-point blast to the head and remained standing.

(Forgot to say that I absolutely love Dying Billy. I always do my best not to kill him outright, just to hear that stupid sound. I laugh so hard I scare my neighbours.)

I had just cleared Orta and remember wondering if I could sneak my team past the last few sectors of Meduna (plus a couple sectors before Meduna) without getting into too much fights to kill Ms. D. Well... it took a few quickloads (stealth kills gone bad on the way) but I actually managed to get to the 2nd last sector of Meduna and clear it. I let the team rest a few hours and go underground to finish the job (kill Deidranna).

I planned the whole thing after Orta: Move through the last sectors at night and hit the last sector before 7.00 AM. Mercs were a little tired from walking in the woods but other than that the team managed to stay rather unharmed, even after the 2nd last fight (I guess I got lucky). Well, I did rest one day (7.00-19.30) on the way since moving through swamp was so slow.

My jaw kinda dropped when I found the automatic rocket rifle. Next sadistic sensation came when I was aiming Deidranna with the damn thing :diabolical: . The 3rd and the best IMO was afterwards when I realized: 'Hey, I actually pulled that thing off !' (The whole plan to go covertly)... priceless, one-of-a-kind sensation of sweet success Very Happy .

Oh yeah...

Another one was when Spider, Barry and IMP were in Alma mine sector. They had barely survived three major battles in the last 12 hours and WHAM!... out of the blue: 20 enemies attack from the south. (Hey, that's what I get when I play drunk, I can't notice every little detail like incoming enemy team of 20). I have like 8 green militia there ready to repel the attack Very Happy .

Next? I retreat into the mine. Very Happy

Inside the mine I realize I can't repair items underground (due to a bug goddammit) but Spider could patch up herself, Barry and IMP.

Next night I launched simultaneous attacks from north, south (6 from N + 6 from S) and 3 from the mine entrance Very Happy . Heh.. the first thing my IMP did after exiting the mine was well.. he got 'snuck up on a stunned sap' so to speak. *Thud* & *Whack* from the crowbar and I steal one FN-FAL, in pristine condition, which effectively replaced his beat-up Minimi (less than 40% condition, jammed frequently).

The rest was kinda easy... I almost felt sorry for the redshirts.. almost :diabolical:

So you say you didn't need to bring the new acquired auto-rocket rifle to the stupid transvestite electronic-geek in Grumm to erase the original finger-print signature like with all the other guns found on the battlefield, or you found a 'virgin' one? I really hate when i need to pay a visit to that freak in Grumm and wait for my r.rifle to be ready. :sadyellow:

Yes. It was a 'virgin' (automatic) rocket rifle. I found it in a locker in the underground sector (the one below the southern-most sector of Meduna).

The following is just my guessing:

I believe Deidranna takes that rifle if she gets alerted about mercs being close to Meduna (there's this animation where Elliot talks to Deidranna of it. Deidranna replies something like: 'They're practically in my backyard!'). I've seen that locker also empty and can't really find another explanation.

I just had a giggle in JA2:WF. I was attacking the Alma armoury from the west just before daybreak, with four of my sixteen(!) mercs using breaklights to reveal the five or six troops who always loiter in the sector's motor-pool area and Sidney and Dmitri absolutely loaded down with grenades to blast said scumbags aside and give my guys time to deploy. Trevor, having a grenade in hand as well, lobs it into the motor-pool and knocks three bad guys on their asses. Dmitri's up next and tries to put his pineapple right in the middle of the three fallen soldiers so he can share the good news around: his grenade bounces ON the closest trooper for a -5, then lands at the target tile beyond him and detonates, stinging that unlucky poor sod for another -23 and killing one of his buddies outright.

Man, I've heard of insult to injury, but bouncing a grenade off a guy's head BEFORE you blow him up with it? That's just humiliating! :devilglasses:

A priceless moment:when I first discovered that the ennemies in Wildfire had ANDROIDS in their ranks!
Hey,relax! Smile
It was just poor Foxy filling the helmet of an elite with 16(!) 9mm bullets from a pair of USP9s(yes,sixteen bullets,8 times she fired the pair of pistols-a bit tired, and firing a shot for 2 a.p.)...and the well equipped bitch(it was a female) was POOR.

After reading bits and pieces Khor\'s Story I got to another fresh start.

At Omerta, squad rushes south after landing.
Halfway through the second house, the one left of Fatima's shack, opposition showed up.

1st turn: IMP runs till behind the backdoor of the third house, he's outside to the left of it.
Grizly hurries inside the third house.
Bull runs to the backdoor of the second house and closes it.
Steriod goes next to Bull.

-second-turn/turn-based, Bull opens the backdoor of the second house (from N-to-S),spots the redshirt, fires of max. aim, hits and closes the door again.
Meanwhile I.M.P. stealthily advances to just around the corner from that redshirt.
-Redshirts turn, guy advances beyond the corner...
-I.M.P. gets the interrupt:
this is where Khors words set in: "see a handgun come out followed by a redshirt clad arm. I didn't know much but this was too good an opprotunity. I grabbed the gunhand with my right hand while yanking the starteled goon foreward and palm smashing his elbow with my left hand."
So I did, grab that is, it unarmed the bastard in one swift move.
-I.M.P. takes two hits to the face. (o.k. okay but not k.o. though Smile )
-Redshirts gets mobbed/stampeded by Bull and I.M.P. (Steriod and Grizzly weren't needed at the moment...)

Not really rare, or graphically spectacular but the first time for me I stole on interrupt from a moving target.

Knife throwing is great if you get the drop on the enemy or even just for some close ranged hurting.

The thing about Dimitri though is when he first died I heard Ira commenting something like "He was fighting to protect his family". At the time I thought, WTF, this guy was allowed to breed?

I had another moment the other day.

There was a group of baddies that magic stumbled upon at night. He was pretty far away, where they couldn't see him. He fired a burst from his MAC-10...and each bullet hit a different baddie (except one getting hit by two.) Didn't kill them, but it was cool!

Using Gideon's MOD a couple of days ago, I had my IMP, Dr Q and Blood (who I'd never used before) attacking The Alma square where Conrad can be hired. Trying an Ironman approach, (which was just not saving as I don't have UB) I had succeeded in wiping out most of the red shirts from the front entrance and made my way onto the roof, shooting the one guy up there up and over the edge.

Trying to aviod being shot by the seriously high damage weapons that this MOD uses, just getting this far without dying was taking hours. I finally got the wall that the sergeant always blows up from the inside, and I got all three guys onto the ground again, either side of the hole in the wall, Dr Q on one side and my IMP crouched with Blood standing behind him on the other. Some elites ran out and interrupts soon ended their battle quickly, but just as my IMP was about to enter inside, an elite ran around the corner, slashing his neck with a knife for 95 damage, killing him.

Pissed off that I'd have to start from the VERY start of the map, I just thought f*** it, I'll have us a knife fight with blood and see how far he gets till hes dead.

Blood runs up, slashes the elites neck 108 damage. Spots an elite inside the building, throws a knife, 98 damage, end turn. Two more elites run out, one stops right in front of Blood and doesn't fire. Next turn Blood slashes his neck and does a 3 burst fire into the other elites chest killing him as well. And I was trying to DIE!

Sorry I HAVE to say this one, I wanted a screenshot of it so bad.

Playing normal JA2 not any MODS i had a squad of 4 making their way to take the airport on day 1. I had just hired Ira, and was sick of her totally sh*thouse aim so using Igor as cover, i ran her around the side of a redshirt lying on the ground and SOMEHOW managed to run right up to him without being hit. Then she had to beat him with her fists at least 8 times to kill the poor guy.

I once started a game with just my custom merc, Spam, night ops specialist with camouflage, night vision goggles, extended ears, and a knife.

When he landed in Omerta he ran for the edge of the map and retreated to the next sector. He came back at night and proceeded to sneak up on enemies and stab them to death.

It worked fine until the last one - who saw Spam and demanded he surrender.

I didn't surrender, so the enemy fired his pistol and missed and missed again.

Spam ran up the next turn and stabbed the enemy to death.

Sector cleared, no armour, no damage - using only a knife. Granted they were useless yellowshirts. But it was still fun to do something different.

Playing Wildfire.
Enter a level 5 Maddog,85 in mechanics bu still at marksmanship 74,who spots an elite ennemy at range 25.Or rather,is spotted...
"-Show me yours,I'll show you mine!"sais the craizy excitment-loving dog. Very Happy
The black bitch fires a SVD standing tall, at maximum aim, and misses!
"-Oh well,not good enough!Meet my ABBY!",sais Maddog,"she wears 36".
And in spite of my order to take a clean shot at the head, and leave the rest for Foxy's target practice,he goes psycho with that Abakan:all three 5.45 bullets land in the elite's head,at maximum visual range.Damage: 111.
and the Dog also gains a marksmanship point!

Now,the question is,do I shoot him immediately, for insubordination, or decorate him for showing initiative?

Dvornik's weapon mod installed over 1.12.Ironman,realistic,no RR.

Spider is level 8,she wears camo and carries a VSS Vintorez and a Groza, both silent and using the SP ammo(9 mm para),but she still kills better with the throwing knives. It all started trying to gain some dexterity...
She displays weird behaviour: I order her to move, and she makes some steps, crouches, prones, turns around independently, stops in the middle of a move as if she was forgeting something.I thought: what the hell,is Gasket contagious?
I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what causes this...and my only conclusion was...
she is SPOOKED!
In a realistic game she is terrified by the crepitus monsters! :scary:

That weird behaviour stopped immediately after I changed her weapons.
Those weapons can't be sold at Tony's.My guess is: they replace crepitus parts, just like the F2000 that replaces the rocket rifle. :king:
To anyone here that wants to have a priceless week,or some non-stop 48 hours of replaying JA2,I warmly recommand that weapon mod.

The time I had to take the Hillbillies using only IMP, Ira, and Dimitri. I defeat them by setting up on the roofs, but after I set up in the room to rest, a redshirt death squad of 12 comes in, packing AKMs, SKSs, etc. I had just gotten 2 Mini-14s, an M79, and LOTS of SPAS-12 shotguns and ammo. So I set up Ira on the roof with a Grenade Launcher and Mini-14 with Scope (at this time, she was about MRK 75), and Dimitri and IMP inside the kitchen, both with MP5 and SPAS 12. So the battle was tough because there's little cover and the enemy outnumbers and outranges me. But they fall for the being interrupted as they step in the covered kitchen. One of them moves in, IMP shoots a shotgun at the head at point-blank, rinse and repeat.

Vengeance.
Gaston on the roof in D15 SAM site, defending the sector against the first elite attack.
He sends to hell a blonde in black with the Kar 98 K.End turn. The militia member on the roof moves on his side, probably fascinated by Gaston's expert loading movement.
Another elite-a white haired this time- comes and blows a shotgun at the mercenary, missing.
-"You'll get it,you incompetent idiot!"
Gaston plants a 7.92 in the attacker's head and prones. The militia(blue!) fools around with something he calls weapon, missing the elite.
Headshot from the elite, the poor bastard's head takes a 221(121+100) damage as he falls from the roof.

Here's a battle that I thought was worthy of being posted here.

The setting: Alma Mine, at 2300 hours. Enter my band of 12 mercs, determined to getting this sector secured. Grunty, armed with a Sniper and Laser scoped Dragunov climbs up on the roof of the nearest house and spots a soldier. However, he is aiming to secure a safe position before getting noticed, but the soldier saw him on the roof and goes to notify the others. Shadow and Hitman move in close to Grunty's building, ready to attack anything that comes close.

Raven, Ice, and Conrad decide to move to the North. Conrad and Ice decide to hide in the alleyways between some houses, hoping to take out some soldiers, while Raven moves in closer to the fenced area in the North-Western part of the sector. With her specialty being Night Ops, she's able to spot some soldiers hiding over there and doesn't have a hard time taking them out. She delivers a few head blows to them with her G41, and they are quickly disposed of.

Danny, Igor, Barry and Dimitri move into the Southern part of the sector and start going West, towards the small building which appears to be a car repair shop. The group spots a few soldiers, but they got the first shots and wounded Igor and Barry. Igor gets up and throws a hand grenade at the couple of soldiers, inflicting a good amount of damage at both of them. He also managed to take a shot on one of them. The rest assisted, but haven't killed either soldier yet. Once they got up, they took a few more shots, wounding Igor a bit more. Dimitri tries to throw a smoke grenade at them in an attempt to cloud their field of vision, but he misses.

My IMP, Aurora, decided to move in to Shadow, Hitman, and Grunty's position to help detect anyone that would come close. She spotted a soldier through the window of the house they were close to, but he was quickly disposed of with a few head shots from Aurora's G41. Then, Grunty spots a soldier from the roof he's on and delivers a head blow. BAM! He falls head-first onto the cold ground, and proceeds to die. Shadow and Hitman go peek around the corner of the building, to find a guard armed with a MAC-10 there. He managed to get 2 shots in the torso on Shadow, but luckily the damage wasn't big. The two mercs took out the lone guard with a couple of head shots from Shadow's FN-FAL and Hitman's AK-74. Shadow went back to his previous position and started to bandage himself, while Hitman went prone.

Ice and Conrad snuck around the alleyways, getting closer to Auntie's house. Ice moves around the corner, but a guard armed with what seemed to be a G3A3 spotted him and got off a shot, inflicting a wound on Ice. Ice fired off a shot back from his weapon, which was the same as the guard's weapon, then went back around the corner to avoid being shot upon. Conrad moved in closer through the alleyways, trying to do a sneak attack on the guard that attacked Ice, but a few soldiers showed up in Conrad's path, but they weren't much trouble.

Danny and his group seemed to have a little bit of trouble handling their guards, as half of the time the mercenaries couldn't see them. They found some trees to use for cover, but as Dimitri moved closer to the tree he was going to use as cover, but a guard spotted him and he suffered a 7.62 WP round in the chest, wounding him severly. Luckily, Dimitri was able to get behind the tree he was getting to. By that time, Shadow finished bandaging himself up, so he went to help Danny and his group. The soldiers tried to move in closer, but Shadow spotted them and delivered a few head blows to them.

By that time, the opposition weaking considerably. Raven moved in to help Ice and she managed to kill the soldier he was attacking. Conrad climed up on the roof of a nearby house and sniped away more of the opposition with his AK-74. The wounded mercs bandaged themselves up, and Aurora moved in closer to the General Store. She saw a few more soldiers through the windows and disposed of them with a few head shots. The guard's were now trying to retreat instead of putting up a fight. Shadow, Raven, and Conrad were sent to look for the remaining few soldiers, and found them near the entrance to the mine. A few quick blows in the torso and head disposed of them, and that's how another sector of Alma was liberated of Deidranna's guard.

I must say that I usually shy away from attacks at night, but with the success of this operation I'm planning to go for more! They will never know what hit them...

WHO SAYS M.E.R.C.s ARE LOSERS?

Okay, so I'm about fifteen days into an SF/Experienced WF5.0 campaign (edited for cash - I started with ~$2 million), and a government strike-team some fifteen men strong is coming to attack the Chitzena mine sector while both of my front-line squads are securing Drassen. The defences are as set as they can be, with twenty blue militia in place... but the actual merc contingent there is pretty weak: Gumpy, Gasket, Haywire and Razor, a quartet of level-1 losers I hired from MERC mainly so that the franchise will actually hire some *useful* talent in the near future; all of them are equipped as the 'second-line' forces they are, with flak vests and MP5A3s and five spare mags per man. (Despite rarely going through more than one mag per front-line trooper per engagement, I like to have plenty of ammo, just in case. Turns out it was an even better policy than I thought!)

I survey the ground and, sighing at how piss-weak my troopers are, I set them up in the bushes to the east of the operations shack's workshop, between Operations and the mine-entrance itself. The general idea was that all four men would go 'rock and roll' as soon as they saw a government trooper, keeping up a constant hail of full-auto fire that would (hopefully) keep the FRA pinned down long enough for the militia to intervene and save these losers' asses; if the militia got beaten, my guys could always leg it into the mine itself and wait for a relief column.

When the FRA actually shows up, most of them arrive on the main road and run into the militia, but three emerge in my guys' zone - and as they push through the bushes at the south edge of the sector, my heart sinks: my four losers are up against two non-coms (elites) and a regular, the elites packing 'long-arms' that are undoubtedly superior to my dinky little MP5s. "I am *so* screwed!" I think... but what the hell? I can make the bastards work for it, and since I've got a save from a couple of hours before the bad guys showed up, I can always try it again, right?

One elite disappears behind the bushes again, leaving a single elite and a regular within my field of view; they're so close together that firing at the elite puts the regular in the kill-zone as well. My guys set about their 'spray and pray' with a will, suppressing the hell out of this scumbag: at two bursts per turn, Gumpy, Razor and Haywire each empty a magazine in three turns, and Gasket (who started shooting a turn later than the others) is down to ten rounds. The laws of probability being what they are, they've actually landed the odd hit on the government grunts: -3 here, -11 there, -6 another time... never better than one hit per burst, so their hit-percentages are going through the floor, but neither government trooper is in a hurry to get up off his belly and the return fire (including a Colt Commando!) has been dreadfully inaccurate, so it must be working, right? A few more turns pass, with the militia contesting the road fiercely and a few of them lending their support to the "Level-1 Losers"... and suddenly I notice that the elite is on 'Poor' health! (Small gains adding up, and all that.) It's Gumpy's turn to fire, and he lays down his first burst: -11, elite's now on 'Critical'. Gumpy gives him another five rounds... and with another -9 hit, the elite lets out a death-rattle, slumps over sideways, and bleeds out, dead as the proverbial. One of the "Level-1 Losers" just smoked one of Diedranna's designated Death Commandos! Surprised

The second elite, who has been playing jack-in-the-box with the militia, now appears at the near corner of the explosives/equipment shed, and she's showing as 'Wounded', having taken a couple of hits from the Blue Berets. Gasket swings around and lets loose with two bursts of his own, tagging her for a -11 and driving her to her knees. Seeing their chance, Haywire and Razor make a dash for the treeline to close on the regular, who caught some lead of his own earlier and is showing 'Poor'. Gumpy keeps pouring in the suppressive fire on the regular: he doesn't hit him, but he certainly keeps him interested. Player turn ends.

The army regular swings around on the two psychos and shoots past them with his Uzi - five times. The 'Wounded' elite pops around the corner again, bangs off a couple of rounds at the militia which do SFA, and ducks back behind the shed again.

My turn again. Gasket senses his opportunity and sends another two bursts down-range. First burst: one hit, -12, the elite's now on 'Critical'. Second burst: one hit, -9... and with a soft moan, the elite slumps against the wall of the shed and slides to the ground, leaving a trail of blood on the concrete and a pool of the stuff under her. That's *two* Commandos my Losers have vaped!

Gumpy keeps the regular's head down with another couple of bursts, but doesn't achieve much. That's okay: Razor's got a perfect shot at the little creep and gives him the good news with a full five-round burst down the long-axis of his body. Scratch three.

Over on the main road, the final FRA trooper, a 'Wounded' elite, comes dashing around the other side of the equipment shed - and immediately goes down hard, courtesy of an interrupting militaman and three rounds from his AKM. Sector clear!

And as they check the bodies for useful salvage, my "Level-1 Losers" realise that they've not only survived their first actual firefight (not counting the three Bloodcats they smoked on the way here), but between the four of them, they've chalked up three bad guys, including two of Deidranna's best. They may have expended horrible amounts of ammunition in the process (each man started the fight with 180 rounds total; by the end, they were down to about a hundred each), but they've just kicked ass. :luckystrike:

I *was* planning on firing all four of these guys in another couple of weeks, once I had Bubba or maybe Larry to take over as the 'second echelon' and hold the surface areas when the Crepitus show up... but I think I might keep these guys around after all.

priceless moment for a red shirt...

haywire, gaston, and razor, along with 20 militia, were just hanging around in drassen airport when 12 red shirts decided to retake the city. after a not so spectecular gunfight, all but one of the reds, with about five of my green militias, were dead. the last red shirt, lurking somewhere in the dark, cannot be located. deciding to speed things up, I ran the three m.e.r.c.'s along the western border, since that's where the attack came from. half way down the map, good ole haywire spotted the red shirt, who was standing close to the border. "now you die... you cowardly @#$#$%##$!!!!!!" i thought to myself... unfortunately, my m.e.r.c.'s did not have the initiative to attack... "fine, do your worst," i thought... with amazing grace, the red shirt (bulky frame male) ran towards haywire and threw a punch at him. before i could react to the absurd situation, he gracefully waltzed to the border and exited the map... it took me three seconds before i grasped what just happened and began laughing my head off. now... whenever i think back to that battle, i picture that punch as a bitch slap to haywire's face... and i could totally imagine "i'm so high on drugs" face saying... "whoa... what the... did you just see that?" well... in conclusion, i won the battle but the red shirt had the last laugh... :digit:

Having played the game the first time on sci-fi without meeting gabby, i had to battle through the bugs after killing deidrianna, and won that one by suiciding all A.I.M's best mercs.
thats why it was a great moment when armed with elixir ivan ran right up to the queen with 2 units of c4, one of c1, and four sticks of TNT, set them all down, retreated, pulled out his remote, and -click-. One huge explosion, one dead bug.

In a recent game of DL, early in the game, I sent Foxy in the El Dorado back to the crossroads south of Omerta to pick up some junk. She's armed with a couple of 9mm pistols and about 20 rounds -- like I said, it's early. Anyway, a small scouting force of redshirts moved into the sector just before she got there -- three of them, one of them armed with an M4.

Fox dives out of the Caddy and takes a position prone behind a tree. The redshirt with the M4 charges her, while the other two move towards a building to flank her. She's popping off rounds and getting an occasional hit -- her marksmanship is nothing to write home about at this point. The bad guys are making the chips fly off the tree, but only slightly wound her. She finally manages to take out the redshirt with the M4 (he's about 10 squares away), but she uses up all her ammo in the process.

Not looking good, right? So (after a quicksave), I have her run to the body and grab the M4. She takes a couple of hits -- she's a hurtin' puppy, but she's loaded for bear, now. She drags her ass over to the building, and plays hide and seek with the remaining two baddies, finally wasting both of them. She's down to about 20 health points, has gained four marksmanship, and levelled up in the process.

She kept that M4 to the end of the game. Smile

Somewhere during the creation of UC, I was going through an unfinished ja2 game, and my team reached Orta reseach facility. I love night-ops, so during the night and after killing some patrolling guards, Shadow and Blood climb the roof from the south. As you might know, there is a guard on that roof. Standing on the middle portion of it, on the edge right next to the courtyard he didn't spot my mercs.
Blood threw a knife at him, killing the guy on the spot... and then he actually tumbled down the roof, falling square on his back in the bright square.
There I was, playing/modding this game for 2 to 3 years, and I just discovered a whole new animation I've never seen before.

No tough warstory, but priceless. It was one of those genuine "man, I love this game" moments.
edit: Lol. Just saw Rob88 make a similar post back in the start of the thread.

I'm playing the Vengence mod and my San Mona team (Sparky and Sandman) have finished repairing all the guns in San Mona. Since my main team is busy training militia in Doran (Grumm), I decide to send the San Mona team to Doran to pick up more guns.

I strip the team of all guns and armour before sending them to Doran so they can pick up lots of stuff. When they get to Doran, I give them as many obsolete guns and HP ammo as they can carry, all of which I intend to sell to Tony back in San Mona. On their way back, they encounter an enemy patrol at F3 (the river crossing just north of Doran). I figure that I can place them on the corner of the map and immediately exit, then cancel the move, place them on a northern corner of the map, then immediately exit to the north, thereby avoiding battle and getting past the patrol. But it turns out, there is a militia force in the area who immediately engages the enemy patrol, which includes 3 tanks....

Due to a bug in Vengence, you cannot flee from any battle where you have militia that is not a city or a SAM site. The game engine was not designed to handle militia battles in open country... So I had to stay perforce.

Now as I said, I was only equipped with obsolete SMGs and rifles plus a lot of HP ammo. I had little armor and no grenades, LAWs or any other tank killing equipment. Luckily, the militia is pretty heavily armed in Vengence and they rapidly dispatched 2 of the 3 tanks. The third tank though, was a real killer. It was able to kill most of the militia near it while the crazy militia was using their LAWs (actually panzerfausts) on the enemy INFANTRY! So after expending their LAWs, they couldn't touch the tank which eventually killed every militia south of the river. There were still quite a few militia north of the river and after they had killed all the enemy up there, I hoped that they would charge south but they just stayed put.

While the tank was whaling on the militia, I tried to distract it by having Sandman take a few shots at it with a KAR98 sniper rifle. He did no damage but he did increase his Marksmanship, which gave me an idea. I had him leapfrog from cover to cover until he was in a position where he could run right up next to the tank, from here, if he knelt, the tank would be unable to shoot him and he could fire at the tank all day. As I said, I was loaded with lots of HP ammunition which I was planning on selling anyway.

While Sandman was busy shooting up the tank and gaining Marksmanship, Sparky toured the battlefield checking out the dead bodies. Eventually she found a mortar and 1 round, a panzerfaust and a few grenades. With these she could kill the tank, but before that, I had her come back and make her way next to the tank like Sandman. I then spent the next few minutes using up all my ammunition firing at the tank. When it was all used up, I had my team break away from the tank, again bounding from cover to cover, then killed it with a shot from the mortar.

After all that, Sandman improved his marksmanship from 62 to 92, an increase of 30 points! While Sparky went from 55 to 67, an increase of 12 points.

While Sandman (Sandboy?) is a bit "wet behind the ears", Sparky is a veteran of JA1. She must be in her 30s by now....

Having said that, I always did like the challenge of training Shank into a killer. Now I have Joey, Sandman AND Shank. There is also Cobra, but he seems a lot older than the others. I've also heard about other kid mercs but I haven't encountered them yet.

Just like regular JA2, I dropped into Omerta by myself and cleared the sector. I was surprised to see that Ira is gone, but luckily I found Joey instead. Later, I ran into Cobra and the truck and from there I made my way to Estoni and got MadDog. I then went to Tixa and got Dynamo and Shank and finally I picked up Sandman and Sparky in San Mona.

Now though, I've captured Chitzena and Grumm (or whatever their names are in Vengence), and I've make enough cash to hire a full roster of AIM professionals. I'll probably be dropping some of the locals when they arrive.

All I can say is, this felt good, for every time his famed interrupt speed dealt major pain to one of my mercs in previous campaigns.

http://img353.imageshack.us/my.php?image=suckstobemike7sy.jpg

It was still early on in the game, just base 1.07 JA2, so I was still using hollowpoints as the enemy wasn't wearing much armor. (The only reason why it was Day 14 is that I sat on Drassen with just Ira and Dimitri, training militia and earning enough to pay both Magic and Lynx for 2-week contracts.)

I'd moved fast on the SAM sites, so I was kinda caught offguard by Mike being there, without anyone having any AP rounds handy. Naturally he absorbed each bullet like I was throwing rocks at a tank. But tanks don't get tired - Mike does. Wink

Surprisingly, for someone who always gets the initiative, Dumbo there was sitting in the window of that bottom building, right in the light. Everyone took potshots at his head for about six turns, until he got sick of it and bolted out the door. Lynx and Magic both opened up on him, doing no damage but sending him to the floor. I thought Lynx might be uncomfortable waxing him, but Ice has teaching skill so he got the honor of teaching Mike some humility via that nice slicey thing in his hand.

It was a fatal lesson, and one that took quite a bit of time... I made sure to cut him light but many times, and kept him down with the occasional HP burst fire. As he sat there, bleeding slowly in the night, he cried like a spanked baby - plus the occasional obscenity directed at Colonal Mohanned thrown in.

Sorry, Mike! But to be honest, I never much liked you. (No, Not you, Member #8 ;p)

And Ice? Ice thought he deserved a medal for taking care of him. And he got one. According to the game, it weighed 8.8 pounds and required several more chops of the machete to obtain it. Smile
