I was playing the new Vengence mod and I had 2 new mercs, Sparky and Sandman on San Mona duty. Sparky is a great mechanic with decent leadership skills while her brother Sandman has good physical attributes as well as martial arts. Therefore, they make a good team to leave in San Mona since Sparky can talk her way past Hans and Spike and fix guns while Sandman beats the tar out of opponents in the San Mona boxing arena.

Anyway, it was a typical night at the arena. Sparky had talked to Darren to arrange a fight and the first bout went well with Sandman taking no damage at all. Now it was time for the second bout. Sandman leaped over the ropes into the ring and waited for his opponent to follow. After a second, the enemy fighter vaulted into the ring, pulled out an assault rifle and put a burst into Sandmans back! Needless to say I was somewhat surprised....

After finishing off Sandman with another burst, the whole sector went hostile as if *I* had started it! And they all went after Sparky.

I reloaded and replayed and the same thing happened. On closer look, it appeared that there were a large number (6) of people clusted around the area where fighters usually hang out. I suspected that a regular goon happened to be standing in the spot where the unarmed fighters usually are placed, preventing them from showing up. I also noticed that the person next to him (where the 3rd, martial arts type fighter stands) was a civilian girl!

After reloading a few times, I got Sandman to get the initiative and beat the gun toting goon unconcious in the first round. After that, Darren announced the winner and paid up as normal. I then tried for the third round but the girl would not enter the ring, so I gave up and reloaded back to the end of the second round.

Even after all this time, JA2 still has its surprises....

You're right - that's exactly what happens.

I've had the civilian girl before, too. She won't enter the ring, but you can still beat the crap out of her. But you don't get your prize money.

The only thing I know to do is just leave the area and wait for another night if you see problems in the lineup.

The worst, and most frequent for me, is sometimes Darren will jump into the ring to cross it after a fight - and then forgets to give the cash. Jerk pretends it never happened.

I used to have problems with Darren not paying, then I started using 2 mercs; one to talk to Darren and pay the money, the other to fight. That way Darren is always next to the merc who paid the cash so he never has to move anywhere.

Got another one for you, Bane:
I swear I won't fight again for money at Darren's club in Vengeance.Rather kill them all,for their money and weapons on arrival.
This 1.02 version has a problem there, that never happened to me in other versions...
Let me tell you how it happened:
IMP char,Grizzly and Blood. The first 2 fights were won without problems, everything went OK.
Blood knocks the opponent unconscious in the 3-rd,and he retreats to his corner. The 2 punches that would have followed in the next turn would have certainly killed the sucker.
Darren announces the winner(Blood),the knocked out fighter exits the ring and...Blood doesn't!The time cursor appeares, and it is still there after I make a coffee.
Tried every trick in the book! The game still locked. Finally,in a moment of inspiration I went to map screen(abandon fight?YES).Only when I returned, the fight was still ON. :whoknows:
BUT!The only enemy was the knocked out fighter, and my mercs were not on the usual 10-13 points, but on 24-25 ap.
Blood punched the shit out of that unconscious enemy, killed him, and the game went to normal time instantly. The relief...(guess you understood I had no save...)
The second day,as if nothing had happened,I went again.Darren accepted the money and Kingpin came, but no gong(bell) sound was heard...
Shooot!
Luckily,I had saved before giving him the money that time.
Any explanation?

The work that Scorpion placed into putting two golden artefacts into the game...
...just for us not to be forced to kill Kingpin and to give one to Yanni and one to him.
And now, wicked me(!), whacks Mr.K immediately after taking his money and receiving his threatening mail, because of a "bug".
And Oronegro-Chitzena reaches 100% loyalty in a maximum of 48 hours after the conquest, with no Chalice involved.
That is too bad! Wink

Certainly the fight sequences are the buggiest in the game...that's why I try to do everything exactly the same way every time. It's the only way I can be relatively sure it will work.

In your case, I think that once you KILL an enemy fighter, it wrecks the fight sequence if you appear the next day. After all, I believe that the original intention was to do the fights only ONCE, just to get the mission from Kingpin. Multiple fights just to gain money was probably not in the design spec.

I didn't know you could talk your way past Hans?
I once blew a hole in the side of the building when I thought Hans was just holding me up... When I did that Tony was not there?
