I feel bad for those guys. I'm sure they worked hard on this. I'm sorry but Robert is right.

However if they make it turn based with action points and add fow I'd buy it.

Wasnt impressed with the demo. The UI issues I can work with but the weirdness in LOS is something I cant handle. The lack of FOW of course made the game less tense. Keeping track of what was going on when the shooting started was also quite hard.

As someone said, you cant place C4 on the ground and wait for someone to walk up before detonating it. Det packs can only be placed in areas where the map/mission makers decide they can be placed..

I am not gonna cancel my pre-order since I like to collect TB/Plan&Go tactical games... Surprised

Dont play the game yet but from what i read i understand that the game is look like stratgey commando / shadow company game than JA game.
Why not choose the game engine of SILENT STORM? with turn based?

JA3 deserves nothing other than the frostbite engine. Fully destructible and visually awesome.

Ok, played the whole demo, my turn for thoughts. The FoW and no turn based has been discussed enough so I will skip them.

Inventory
-pros: I like that they added shoes. Several times I thought JA2 needs shoes, only I thought they should affect walking/running/climbing ap, sneak, and armor.
-cons: The big one is, you can't wear face items and helmets at the same time. At least not extended ears. On the demo you can find a pair of EE in the locked room, try to equip them and they go in head spot instead of helmet. Also the attachment system is a serious con. Say you want a silenced pistol but want to use a rifle as main gun, well the gun and the silencer can't be stored together.

repair
-pros: None
-cons: looks like you need different kits, the kit that magic had would repair none of the guns i found, even one that was at 50%.

Overall 1.13 is already light years better. And considering it can be and is being modded means the difference will only grow larger as JA2 1.13 gets better and better.

Hopefully this game at least brings some fresh players, and some old players back.

Well, look on the bright side, that shouldn't be a problem. They only exist in the game as a gimmick for the single purpose that the developers can put them on their (short) list of things that survived from the original. I mean, with no FoW, what would be the point of equipping them? I already wondered why the mercs sometimes "warn" you about hearing enemies nearby. It's not as if it were a secret...

As for night vision goggles, I took off Lynx's for a while and couldn't recognize any change to better or worse. I guess they theoretically would improve chance to hit and/or awareness distance of the guard mode during night time. But since battle situations are mostly an incomprehensible mess and the to-hit tooltip is rather vague, one can't be sure how much of a difference it actually makes.

Did they localize some of the artwork in the game? Anyone try the non-English version? For example the pic posted above says 'Vote Diedrianna' (that in and of itself is kind of funny)

I just mention it as odd, because Alurco seemed to be modeled after Spanish-speaking country.

The good news is that at least now we can all look forward to more Bear's Pit goodies. If you want a turn based JA fix, this is the place to get it. It's amazing that no one has taken 1.13 and turned out a mod, all the tools are there.

Maybe it's time to use a stable release to get the most out of HAM, The Merc Editor etc... i'd be up for donating some time to a community driven Mod based on 1.13.

Put simple, it's too hard (from what I gather). Messy code, instability, the tools have issues... there's a reason the Stable Modding Project exists Razz.

Let's leave it as that, though, to avoid wandering too far from the topic at hand Smile.

It is released, at least in the German Steam shop and other retailers here delivered as well. The other dates are in another thread around here.

Why?

JFTR: BiA has already been released (today), customers of steam and (at least german) retail DVD are already playing.

Ah, i hate this attitude: start a lawsuit before asking (and before thinking). Sad
In the particular case it'd be an particular bad idea:

Turns out Back in Action sold like water in a scorching desert! Cagemonkey receives tremendous royalties for the rest of his life and also an added cult following. Oh my!
...and then he puts every cent towards helping develop 1.13. OH MY! Surprised

If I was very rich and had a business sense I would combine that with my love for JA and produce JA3. It would be interesting to see if my vision of how a JA-game should be would keep the true fans while spreading the word to new market areas. I prefer my humoristic strategy-games realistic, gritty and well made when it comes to functions like how weapons and soldiers function. 1.13 is awesome!

To the casual WoW-gamer JA is maybe too hard, not a dedicated multiplayer game and has too many details and options. But I think there is a market for a product with so many options and freedom of play.

wonder what'd happen if Ian Currie went on a kick starter ala this one:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/66710809/double-fine-adventure

these lads raised a million + dollars in JUST 2 days ffs whilst they were aiming for 400k, and it keeps on increasing every moment - gamers are hungry for an old fashioned point n click adventure? i surely think so!

It would be nice to have an adventure with decent puzzles, once more. Most "contemporary" adventures merely require you to combine the only two usable items on the screen to bridge you over to the next cutcsene - yawn...
The exception might be the games by Daedalic, check those out if you like adventures.
