I think the worst you can do when considering BiA is to think of it as a follow-up to JA2. BitComposer realised this and named it "JA:BiA" - not "JA2:BiA".

So maybe we should take it as a completely new branch off the franchise and see where it goes. Actually, we should do more, we should INFLUENCE where it goes. Yea, it lacks a lot of the things we considered "normal" in JA2. It lacks even a lot more things we've modded over the years into JA2. But for a start-up, completely new JA game (JA, not JA2!), it does ok. If BitComposer continues to develop it, listens to fans and opens the game up to modders, we might have something.

JA2 is the end of one line. There will be no JA3.
But if the gods smile on us, we might have a BiA2 that's actually good.

Just my 2c.

You lost the point, gained a trolling +. BiA is Back in Action, noob.

If they had re-done the Metavira story, it would've been much better imho, PR wise. At least the engine comparison would've been in their favour. Their major faux-pas was using the JA2 story (beside the first promo campaing as JA2 Reloaded).

Fact is, beside the storyline, they did ok with the Pause system. It's a valid replacement of the point system. The rest if fixable.

And they would have been able to sell the JA2 setting/story as add-on to the game if they had started with BiM ... Smile

I never liked JA2... seriously... I found it to be aweful.

Now 1.13 is another thing, new inventory plus more guns and STOMP made this game the perfect "the sims" clone for gun and weapons equipment maniacs. (But the actual gameplay is still so boring that I never really liked playing through it. The AP system is an abomination.. in any game).

Then comes BiA along with P&G and good balanced gun gameplay. Dispite what everyone says, the game itself is the best JA ever. Granted the entertainment value (story, face visuals, speech) is below JA2, but the gameplay of BiA is much much better and more dynamic, and that is what the core of a game is. Everything else can be added later on.

So my hopes in the future for BiA are.. more guns, better inventory, and an RPG system like STOMP or better for your IMP. Seems like its possible to add guns, the R@S guy already doing his thing again. But the inventory will probably not come as it will needlessly overcomplicate stuff Sad and for IMP you probably have to wait for a sequel or expansion Sad .

... noob ...

as if i didn't know what BiA means? i agree that it was a cheap shot (that i couldn't resist). i also agree that it is a gOOd idea to give them at least the credit for trying to not fuck it up (again).

as to the latter: i think they miserably lost and some people here are crossly overexagerating for not getting their personal idea of an ideal ja III on a silver platter (the one keith sells).

A thing ANY Jagged Alliance had and that was always the major selling factor for them was ITEM COMBINATIONS. That's where BiA comes short badly. Where's my Molotov? My spring+rod?

So if you ask me what the should add asap (I am pretty sure if they could do it 10+ years ago, they can do it on this engine too) is item combinations.

They cut away 80% of the fun for me. 50% because I can't improve my weapons, 30% because I have to haul around 10 stupid half full medkits I SHOULD be able to combine.

Then again - the game is here. If they get their ass in gear they can add stuff like this...

CptMoore, the IMP has already been modded into BiA - well, at least as replacement for any of the existing AIMs in game.
Have a look into the BiA modding section here for details and links.

So I have a thing, have I Very Happy

I know, BSM has a ridiculous amount of weapons, but that's just a small part of what I have done with that game. Please don't pigeonhole me into the "asset creator" category, I think I deserve better :naughty:

The reason I stared with adding a few weapons was that it was the easiest way to get started. Now that I have had some time to go through the files I have found other things I plan to add. And I think the upcoming content patches will make the possibility to mod the game even greater.

@RaS

I must confess I modded 7.62/Bluesun to have all weapons available at level 1 and never played through it too. But combining all the attachements, weapon variants, ammo types was taking enough time as it is.. and was a lot of fun.

Anyway concerning the IMP, as far as I can tell the current moddability is restricted to an outside program.. with built in traits.. with limited positive stats.. nothing nowhere near STOMP.
