Hi,

Been having fun playing this again. Played it ages ago (2005 or something) then got it again on GOG after I saw the demo of back in action (which I probably will not get).

Been making good progress on v1.12, Tons of Guns, SciFi, Expert with a IMP who is Stealthy/NO. With his buddy Igor he has been sneaking around causing carnage in the night missions. Is day 38 and I have 5 cities and am clearing the patrols from around Medina right now.

The point being I found the night missions pretty easy, you can sneak around with Stealthy, NO two expert mercs with UV glasses and kill 20 red/black shirts reasonably easily, taking 0-2 hits unless something goes badly wrong.

I did try some daylight attacks close to Medina though and was getting my ass completely kicked. Well some Merc deaths which I then reload.

Do people attack in the day in vanilla? I guess I should change my weapon loadout more towards FN-FALs and use more granades/heavy weapons. The last time I tried it it seemed like the red/black shirts were hitting me from everywhere with shots and granades and I could not hit anything. The LOS rules are a bit difficult sometimes as well to work out where you need to be to see the opponent.

Anyway do people successfully attack multiple times in the day without reloading a lot? How should you set up your squad in terms of people and tactics to make that happen? Night missions just seem so much easier.

Sure, night missions ARE easier. Period.

For daylight assaults you'll need indeed every far reaching gun you can get. It's essential to be able to hit approaching enemies before they are within the range of their own guns.
And you need cover that you can hide behind during enemy turn. Otherwise you can be picked up by their snipers.

Obviously you need more manpower in daylight than at night since you are challenged by more enemies at once. So better bring a full squad than just 2 stealthy guys. Razz

every rule has its exceptions - i've found Wildfire map NW SAM site quite nasty at night and easier at daytime...
