It's more like we got very very lucky they released source code for JA2. There are not much games that got their source code released. So I wouldn't count on BIA's source code to be released.

Edit: Wiki says there are only 58 games with source codes released. Do the math.

No need to be rude. He answered the question "is it probable that BIA's source is going to be released?".

What exactly do you mean by "edit player stats"?

will it be possible for Ja2 1.13 team to "steal" some codes from Ja2:BiA and put them in Ja2 1.13 if Source code will be available?

Editing the stats of AIMs, RPCs and every other char in game is quite easy: Just extract the characters.txt and change any value you want, add traits or whatever. That's very selfexplanatory if you look into this file.

Have a look next door into the BiA modding section:
Easiest thing would probably be to get the "IMP modifier" and run once to extract the characters.txt. Then edit to your liking with any text editor.

Start new campaign in BiA and you are done.

If tiny bit of it were possible now we were playing with ham5, reverse engineered from ham5.exe

once I setup the blue dawn mod for BIA finding and adjusting values was really easy. I just finished giving all cloths and masks a camo value so it makes sense. I hated having a black shirt and no night camo value added ect.

exactly what i was thinking about. wouldnt it be right too that at least most of the clothes get a small value to night camo since it is night time and it is much harder to see at night?

It's interesting that there are so few games who give the source code away like that. Its clear that giving the sourcecode away allowed a game like JA2 to still be played FAR longer than the typical lifespan can be expected to last. Hell I know i have bought it twice - once originally, then again on GOG after i had lost the game and recently was itching to replay it. My current laptop is not up to playing BIA but i've plans to upgrade...and when i do...
Point im making is that buy returning the engine of the game to fans, you preserve the lifetime of a game, and ensure you keep the people who play your game loyal, and in the future they may be likely to buy further releases...suffice to say im itching to play BIA. And would be much more so if it was likely that BIA 1.13 was a possibility...

Welcome to the Pit, slippyB!

Before spending money on BiA just for the name of it - give the demo a try first. 'Cause gameplay is VERY different from JA2 and hence loving JA2 is no valid indicator if you are going to like BiA.
(some say it's rather a sure sign that you're going to hate it Wink )

i loved ja2 and have completely enjoyed bia.

i will admit i was quite skeptical of a kalypso remake to ja2 after playing Dungeons. i didnt think it would be a DK remake, but somewhat counted on modders, before learning about kalypso's aversion to the modding community... seriously considered never playing another kalypso game again.

having said that, bia isnt bad and i am not regretful for forking over some of my cash for it. There are many places to make it wonderful, but that will probly never happen. While it is true bia certainly will never reach 1.13 levels (the new patch for bia is 1.13... seemed like a sacrilige), it takes a whole lot of community love to make a game that perfect.

even some of the glaring problems with the game were somewhat trivialized when i got used to it. I absolutely hated saving in JA2 and then standing all my mercs up to run across the map just Hoping an enemy would fire at me, because if they didnt, i had to search all of the bathrooms. while not having fog of war is completely cheating and will enable it next time i play, i Love that you can play without it when i want to play fast and dirty, sniping from way too far away in the dark.

in the end, it is just too nostalgic not to play.

gawd i need more guns... tons of guns

but i wont pay them another dime.
