Just been having some fun with this mod. Must say it's quite a thrill, despite re-running the Vanilla storyline and quests. Those Air Strikes are both frustrating but exciting at the same time.

But enough of my gibbering, what's the deal with the Replicator? as I understand it, repairing it adds credits for it to make things, but I have also heard people making it 'eat' items. How do you do that? Whenever I go to place or combine an item it usually attempts to replicate it rather than 'eat' it. Is there a special technique to do this?

Attach the replicator to an item to make him eat it. The whole thing is very cool, once you get the hang of the laptop item you can make anything you want.
