@silversurfer maybe he means fire ambient which is controlled by ENABLE_TA option.
Thanks. Problem was that fire burning sound was much louder than other sounds.

You can simply increase the volume for game sounds in the game options, or lower the volume of fire ambient with VOLUME_TA option.

Hi, new here! happy Fell in love with JA 2 just a week ago, and now that I've finished it I am ready to move on to 1.13. While I was at it, I wanted to play UB with 1.13.

JA2 1.13 launched and works fine. UB 1.13 launched fine, albeit with some errors about values not being set to TRUE or FALSE, so it set it to TRUE instead. After confirming my difficulty settings, all I got was a black screen with the background music still playing. Am I doing something wrong?

-Playing with GOG version
-Installed in D: drive, not in C:
-Launched using INI Editor
-Selected "JA2_8766_UB.exe" as the exe
-Selected "vfs_config.UB113" as the VFS Config

UB Vanilla also fails to even get to the main menu, even with the right VFS Config selected.

I'll appreciate any help, and please do tell me if this is the wrong place to post this. Thanks so much!

An update to this:

The "Official" 1.13 release works with UB 1.13. I can now play, but I still have a few questions:

-Why are the cinematics not playing? (e.g. no heli cinematic, skips right to crash site after selecting mercs and going to Tactical Mode for the first time). Is it because I removed the "INTRO" file? If so, does the file control all movies, and not just the SirTech splash screen?

-The VSync setting sometimes work and sometimes does not, all while in-game. Is there a solution for this?

Oh, and before I forget, I am running Windows 10. Used Straciatella to complete JA2 Vanilla. Apologies if I sound very, very greenhorned with this.

Thank you very much, and please keep safe in these trying times.

Hello all

I wanted to do a fresh install of the latest build during quarantine, but it seems Kermi's FTP is currently down. (http://kermi.pp.fi/JA_2/v1.13_Releases/Unofficial/English/Depri/SCI_113)

Anybody else getting the same issue?

Kermi bit the dust a while ago, but most of it was backed up and now hosted on the mirror site here;

https://storage.rcs-rds.ro/links/4729f8d6-f44b-42b7-aa3e-e0ddc6deead6

As for Depri's builds, you are probably better downloading from his one drive, I believe.

Here's the link (same one on the first post) https://onedrive.live.com/?id=13A6926EAC52083%21583&cid=013A6926EAC52083

It might be an idea for someone to edit some of those old links on the first post, and remove the defunct media fire link. I can't, as I don't have permission and Depri' spends more time in the Discord room these days.

Oh wow, this is still active! I'd not touched JA2 for almost two years (I'd had a private mod project going on since 2012, nothing crazy) because it was giving me all kinds of issues. Today I learned I can use the application's Compatibility settings to automatically run in 16-bit color depth, rather than having to switch my entire system to 16-bit which seems to have been the root of all my problems!

Two quick questions, though:

1) As I made a fresh install, I noticed the XML Editor is absent from /Jagged Alliance 2/. I seem to recall it not working with SCI builds, is there an updated version perhaps? Two or three years ago I switched my mod to being built on AFS and reconfigured all my custom items to AFS' system. So there are new things compared to my old 1.13+Arulco Reloaded build, but without the XML editor to deploy them without the AFS data it's gonna be a real pain. angry

2) I'm getting weird laggy mouse movement when running in Windowed mode. Any ideas on that one?

Thanks in advance! I'm so happy to see there are still people actively working on JA2. big grin

XML editor was removed because it's outdated and messes up the .xml files if you save any with it. Currently there is no up to date xml editor.

This should help with the 2nd question.

Hi there,

first of all: thank you for keeping this game alive and even improving upon it for 20 years!

I played the game back in the day and did a couple of replays over the years with 1.13. During this quarantine I thought I would do another playthrough with 1.13 and installed the latest version from this thread.

Everything runs great, but I noticed that the gear-progression is far too quick for my licking. Even in the very first sector, enemies where already equipped with submachine guns and are sporting AKs and MP5s in Drassen. At first I thought I set the item progression too high by leaving it on "normal" in the campaign setting, but I just restarted the campaign with the progression set to "very slow" and I am again running into submachine guns in the first sector. I am unable to find the corresponding setting in the *.ini files. The only setting I found was about the "coolness" of enemy gear and that was set to "0".

Am I missing something? Is there an opition that I am overlooking?

Cheers!

Equipment of enemy troops and militia has been modified some time ago. It now uses version 1 of Lev Arris' overhaul. In this thread you can find more information about the change.
There is a backup of the original gun choices in "Data-1.13\TableData\Inventory\Backup original Gun Choices" folder in case you want to restore them.

Ah, that explains it. Thanks you for the info. I shall try out the new balancing so! Is NCTH still being used? I was surprised for it to be set to "off" as a default.

Of course NCTH is still being used. Some people find it too difficult, especially at game start, when you don't have many automatic weapons, so it's turned off by default.

I am unsure if I am having an issue or this is intended, but I have installed the build 8776 with the SCI onto my clean JA 2 installation and it appears that many of the options on the start new campaign screen are missing? When I had another version of 1.13 installed on a previous machine I recall there being options for the new interrupt system, new chance to hit system, and how much the enemies drop. Are these options located somewhere else now? Or perhaps I have installed incorrectly?

Hi everyone,

really good job keeping this thing alive.
Is a multiplayer still a thing though? I wanted to play with my bro and hosting is OK but if joining screen turns black except input fields.

Tried older version from 2008 and it worked but crashes a lot.

Anyone know where to download the English version of the r7435 build 7609 official update? I tried with the PBworks links, but they all have seemingly expired. I was able to download the main 1.13 file just fine however.

Do you have enabled "INDIVIDUAL_MILITIA" in "JA2_Options.ini"? If this is on, costs are calculated differently. They are defined in "TableData\MilitiaIndividual.xml".

On Revision 8796 I am often crashing to black screen when the enemy attacks Drassen occupied by mercs + militia.
I am using the same ja2.exe that came with the above package.
I don't recall making many changes with ini editor except making enemies drop all items, it's a pretty "stock standard game". This crash has happened on a previous new game as well, I thought restarting would help.
Anyone else experience this?

I'm pretty new to 1.13 so it could be I missed something. My JA2 is the Steam Wildfire bundle, so I extracted the 8796 files to the game directory under steamapps folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ja2_wildfire\JA2Classic) and all seems to be working perfect until I am attacked in Drassen.

Have a weird bug in Drassen C13 & D13 where once I kill the first yellow shirt, the rest of the garrison disappear and the game moves out of forced turn mode.

game_log.log has this@

[1063.85] : ERROR : File : vobject.cpp

stack_trace.log has this:

Would there be anything else that would be useful?

Thanks

Just double-prompting from the bug-report section for r8796 but I'm getting a game-freeze when pressing "Go to sector" when attacked by enemies in a sector. Using latest revision without any mods.

Update:

Reverted to 8766 and the game responds normally. Hope that helps.

Update2:
Seven & Asdow tested a save game - not replicated - am doing a complete reinstall to test again. happy Worked. happy

Update 3!
Two days later, the game locks up in the same way but I found the following method gets around the lock up!
If you left-click on "Go to sector", the screen locks up and the game is non-responsive. But if you press "E" on your keyboard, the game BYPASSES the loading screen and goes straight to the map!

There is an exe for UB with the same number as the build it comes with. Like in "JA2_8796_UB.exe".

What's it for? When trying to use it for starting either UB-Vanilla or UB-113, it won't work.

With UB-Vanilla I get error about missing logicalBodytype.xml and game freezes.

With UB-113, after the starting settings, the game won't change to Laptop. Blackscreen and music,
and that's it. I thought this might be an Intro problem, but turning Intros off in UB didn't change this.

In 7609 I can start both with the UB.exe, no problems.

So, is this UB-exe in recent version even updated? Or is it rather a problem in the UB-part of the GameDir?

Is there something else to do beside the vfs and ini choosing in the ini-editor, like in 7609 ?

Or is it broken?

Confusing.

How to get: latest 1.13, 7609 and more | 7609 SCI (eng) | Compiling+SVN

I need more details. (Didi Hallervorden)

Only a guess, but isn't the logicalBodytype.xml the animation feature with visible inventory items on the merc sprite? (LoBot) See if you can disable that in the ini, if it's checked to see if UB works when turned off.

Maybe you should just copy LogicalBodyTypes folder from Data-1.13\TableData to Data-UB\TableData, or maybe it should be moved to Data folder since it's used in both 1.13 and UB-1.13

I just launched UB with the SVN build with the debugger attached, and I could get to tactical before it crashed. All during that black screen, the game is doing a lot of stuff, but I don't know why it's so slow in loading up whatever it is doing. The game was terribly laggy and all of the mercs had Barry's voice files and the contract selection was the old 1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks option even though UB shouldn't have that. Our hero pilot still sounded like himself though. After the crash and as Jerry's telling he's hightailing it back to Arulco, I started getting nullptr exceptions at Dialogue Control.cpp on line
pSoldier = FindSoldierByProfileID( (UINT8)QItem->uiSpecialEventData, FALSE );

Seems UB is quite broken at the moment.

I've added your fixes for UB in r8816 & GameDir r2536, so this bug should now be solved.

I know now that it could never work between us, as much as we wanted to, it could never be! Not because you're a rabbit, but because you're black.

If you want, you can donate to me. This will not affect how and what I code, and I will not code specific features in return. I will be thankful though.

\Data\NpcData\122.npc
\Data\NpcData\H8.npc
\Data\NpcData\H8.edt
\Data\ShadeTables\RGBDist.dat

All those files included in SCI_JA2v1.13_Revision_8796_on_GameDir_2531.7z are direct copies from retail game \Data folder, and overwrite themselves. Its only ~1MB, but useless redundant data.

There is also some forgotten duplication in SCI_JA2v1.13_Revision_8796_on_GameDir_2531.7z itself:

SCI_JA2v1.13_Revision_8796_on_GameDir_2531.7z\Data\Sounds\Weapons\50\50 CAL.WAV

SCI_JA2v1.13_Revision_8796_on_GameDir_2531.7z\Data\Speech\014_101.gap

plus ~60 more in \Data\Speech\

SCI_JA2v1.13_Revision_8796_on_GameDir_2531.7z\Data\Sounds\Weapons\30M1\30-06 GARAND SINGLE SHOT.ogg
SCI_JA2v1.13_Revision_8796_on_GameDir_2531.7z\Data\Sounds\Weapons\Misc\30-06 GARAND SINGLE SHOT.ogg

SCI_JA2v1.13_Revision_8796_on_GameDir_2531.7z\Data\Sounds\Weapons\Misc\30M1 AUTOMAGIII SINGLE SHOT.ogg

Of course I ignored files that are obvious deliberate duplicates like
\Data\Laptop\CampaignStats\Desert\loss.sti
\Data\Laptop\CampaignStats\Polar\loss.sti
Its clear those were put in separate folders for code clarity.

There seems to be some issues with the latest build: keyboard doesn't work most of the time and in general it behaves as if the "alt" key is pressed all the time.

If you alt+tabbed out of the game, the ALT key gets stuck when you switch back to the game. This is "normal" behavior and cannot be circumvented. Just press ALT again and it will become unstuck.

hi guys i am playing last version with experienced diff. but i had to kill around 30 enemies (including more than 10 elites) in cambria mine when i recaptured there. isnt this too much hard? i mean killing them in open area especially in a day light is kinda impossible for me so i decided night attack and all i did was staying in small building which has a few chests. it was tough war did lots of save scumming but in the end killed all of them with my valmet m76.

if enemy would have decided to storm in the building at the same time i would be 100% dead but they didnt. they mostly stayed right outside of the door. also none of them used LAW or other explosives to destroy building...

It happens even without alt tabbing.

When the black market will appear?
It's seems missing for me, never saw these guys at the hotel. Is there any special conditions?

Yeah, you gotta enable ALLOW_EXTRA_CIVILIANS = TRUE and ALLOW_EXTRA_MERCHANTS = TRUE for this to work. Figures.
I think these should've been enabled by default, since you get e-mail from Enrico at start about black market exist.
