What kind of music style "Flashback" will have?

Since this is a prequel, I personally would have liked if it was similar to JA1 music: Main Menu, Scenario Menu, AIM (note:Those are Roland MT-32 examples), Combat 1, Combat 2, Victory and Ambience (note:these use inferior soundcards, can't find higher quality ones).

FC stated they want to implement radio stations like in GTA, which I think is a very good idea. obviously it all needs to be geared towards the late 80s.

Well, indeed licensing would be the problem here. But if there are artists out there who want to see their track in the game somehow, just contact me. If it fits, it's in Very Happy

Well the answer here is to have lots of B-Grade 80's songs which are very cheap for the retail game, or covers/remakes or even copycat styles which are new.

Then have an editable radio station setup which can have MP3's just added to the game (or even FLAC Very Happy )

Heh I'm a little too young to remember obscure 80s music since at that age I only really listened to stuff that would get a lot of radio play...

But the greatest ever music/war sequence ever done would be license free - Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries in Apocalypse Now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gz3Cc7wlfkI

It's a nice piece, but a bit overused and a bit too grand for something like a merc band imho.

Well, it's a caribean island held by the russians. So, even if it's taking place in the 80's I could easily see older songs from the 70s, 60s or even the 50s.

Maybe a Karaoke station with drunk russian soldiers singing their favorites. Smile

Or a DJ type like Robin Williams' character in "Good Morning Vietnam".

Of course, ya gotta have some Jimmy Buffett tunes.

Well, the movie came out in 79, so we gotta have at least one "dumbass wannabe merc" running around with a "boom box" wanting to play it every time he attacks something. Could end up with another merc with explosives ability putting the "Boom" in his "box". Razz Or another merc going crazy after say, the 5th time it's played and shooting the merc. Smile

No need a lot to have funny things.

No money for music ?

Classic or oldies.
Just few tracks on a jukebox, a track for a coin, between two vodka-martini on the rocks, an old phonograph in your hotel's room with cuban cigars, or simply the little FM radio of Pedrolito, your local and expensive guide.

Totally useless, totally outdated, and so, perfectly indispensable. Smile

+1 for "old records" music... It's a reclusive island, the local radio probably has updated their records stock somewhere in the 50-60s...

Think Fallout style without the post-apoc stuff. And this:

Quote:
a DJ type like Robin Williams' character in "Good Morning Vietnam".

I'd also throw in some classics into the mix.

How about some thematically fitting remixes of classic rap?

As tempting as it would be to go for a GTA styled soundtrack, I think I would rather have an original soundtrack with an eighties and latin vibe and sonority not unlike Ubisoft did with Blood Dragon, or Rockstar did with the theme song of Vice City, partly because I'd hate for a significant chunk of the budget and profits to get wasted on overpriced royalties for record companies rather than more features and levels but also because soundtracks in video games have a way to creep into your mind and stay with you decades after you've dropped a game and forgot what the levels and graphics look like, and that aspect gets lost when a game uses actual songs instead of an original soundtrack. Plus it allows to shoot for all kind of different moods so there's a fitting track for every situation and location you're in.

That being said, rather than waste money on royalties for actual songs, a wiser move would be to code in an mp3 feature, with a radio announcer interrupting with an ad or news broadcast every two songs, and let the players create and import their own soundtrack in the in-game radio station.
