Not much to add as I've only just started the download, and I haven't played the original browser-based version.

Apparently there's now a singleplayer version, purchasable as DLC (can any one spot a difference between "Shadow Edition" and "Ivan Edition"?), but I'm not inclined to put down $30 find out if it's any good.

If nothing else, it will be interesting to see how the increased exposure (and therefore, one would assume, funds) affects development and stuff.

Both versions have the singleplayer campaign, the shadow version gives you shadow, the Ivan version gives you Ivan. That's the only difference.

30$ for this feature deprived turd of a JA game, only to be able to play the "campaign" offline, when you can play it online for free?

Who on earth would be stupid enough to do that? Besides this game being worth 5 bucks at most.

I'm with Mauser on this one, the game is at very best a moderately polished turd, comparing it to JA2 1.13 it's the difference between playing snap with the cards your dog chewed on or playing poker in a VIP suite in Vegas ...

JA:Online is weak... I've played now for a few days (5 hours played), and honestly don't see it passing maybe a week - at best maybe 15 hours before I simply give in even trying to like it. It's got a lot of ground to cover to impress me in the next 10 hours, and my hopes aren't high.

But you can't. the free online campaign is capped on LVL 14. If you want to play more campaign missions, you have to buy the campaign package for like 25

IMO there is a way of motivating players and bringing a little bit of (tactical) variation into game. Likely a way you and me don't appreciate much, but it is there, to be fair:
1. Multiplayer: Establishing clans and fighting other human players likely will encourage some players to play on.
2. The goals in every (campaign) mission try to make you play maps differently with things like "solo this map to achieve gold medal" or "don't spray'n'pray (don't spent more than X bullets)" etc.

Not what I'd expect nor like from/for a JA game (but - sadly - what we could expect from a bC game, apparently ...).

I just saw this on Steam and was curious... It didn't look bad from the trailers but guess I won't bother now... lol.

The Design is very good, the overall attempt is okay, but it feels so static, caved and light-minded due to it's very limited tactical depth. You feel like doing the same over and over again. No crawling and no strategic layer creates a huge hole into the gameplay.

Hi guys! I am back!

I downloaded this wretched free game on steam...but it is that action that lead me to do a bit of internet searching and learn about JAF, so in that way it is good.

I almost gagged when I saw my scout would be carrying a Hi Point Carbine (which was somehow more potent than a Ruger PC9). The weapons are all screwed up. (The Desert Eagle I found was chambered in 9mm...as was the Enfield rifle, although I think they were trying to go for something like the De Lisle carbine. Can't even go prone, can't get on roofs. You get stupid outfits (like 'the good and the bad chest armor' and 'the ugly' hat...I found a 'prom suit' aka blue tuxedo. You get ammo in a 200 round box or 50 round box, but when you have just a few rounds left you can't combine it with another partial box, id doesn't matter if you are trying to combine the remnants of two 50s or two 200s or a 50 and 200 you can't do it. You can only carry 3 items of ammo. No prone. You see the very same gun with different 'levels' so one kind of M1 carbine is weak and a different kind is powerful. you can't go prone, or climb on roofs. The sound bites that your merc spits out aren't the same voice , sometimes you sound like a little kid, sometimes a gruff veteran, and sometimes like you are Australian.

Oh, did I mention no prone and no climbing onto rooftops?

And in PvP mode they drop you into a map the size of a closet.
