Ok, so recently I've started playing 1.13 for the first time. Finished JA2 at least a couple of times, played Wildfire and JA2:UB.

The biggest problem is that in 1.13 I can't get my mercs to get a proper aim Sad I know that in JA2 aim was better and it had to be lowered, but large numbers of enemies was balanced with good aim.

My current team is one I.M.P. character (marksmanship 82), Fox (76) and Wolf (85). I recently conquered Drassen and adjacent SAM, and I'm starting to fend off the wandering enemies. To be honest, most of my battles take place in houses (in particular - the infamous shack without windows), since my mercs are completely useless in open air.

I also tried using various rifles, but their AP cost has been somewhat raised and they did not have a big effect on my mercs' (terrible) AIM. I've also equipped all of my mercs with eyeglasses, but they still miss way too much. The situations where I target (max AP) torso and hit legs are waaay too frequent. But even so, at least 4 enemies means that I'll get hit at least once during the battle no matter what strategy I use (except fighting in close quarters). Of course, most of the battles are fought with 10 enemies, including a couple of specialists (gray).

Any suggestions / tips ? :/ For now I'm thinking of uninstalling the 1.13, but maybe I'm forgetting something...

Are you using NewChanceToHit System? If so it is normal that average chance to hit has gone down. The bullet can fly anywhere within that inner circle. It is intended that way because the old CTH system was much too accurate. That's why people struggle a lot to get used to the new system. They are simply used to the old "headshot game".

With NCTH you will need to rely more on automatic fire especially at the beginning. For accurate semi-automatic fire on longer range you need some scopes. 2x scopes will be a good start, 4x scopes are fine for ARs and rifles. I like 7x and 8x scopes for sniper rifles.

Specialization is also a key. In the new trait system you should outfit your mercs with weapons that they are proficient with so they can counter the weapon type specific penalty (see Skills_Settings.INI). A sniper rifle is not much good in the hands of an automatic weapons guy. Even if he is a skilled shooter he will never be as good as an (expert) sniper with that weapon.

If you really don't like the new system and don't want to adjust it to your liking then you can select the old system on game start. Unfortunately this cannot be switched mid campaign.

Unfortunately this cannot be switched mid campaign.
That depends on the version. The old 4870 stable allows switching in the preferences and according to experience, that's what 9 out of 10 newbies got.

Thanks for the advice. Can you give me some tips on how to return to the old aiming system ? I'm using 4870 version.

open preferences in game, go to 2nd page (next button) and disable "use new Chance to Hit System". click done and you're done. Smile

Also check the parameters in CTHConstants.ini in the (non-Patch) Data folder. It's a gold mine!
