Hi guys , haven't been around in a while , been playing other games , yes I'm a shameless hussy ! Installed Windows 10 and went to try out a JA mod , actually tried a few , all with the same slow stuttering of screen/bullets , to the extent it was unplayable . And it isn't the merc lights problem . Anybody got a fix or tips on how to get back my fast JA please ?
Cheers ,
Lockie .

Win8 Dll fix should work.

Also using reg patch can help (doesn't require dll change, but need to disable intro):

Make a .reg file, change path to your ja2.exe, apply.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers]
"C:\\games\\ja2\\ja2.exe"="~ DWM8And16BitMitigation Layer_ForceDirectDrawEmulation 8And16BitAggregateBlts"

example reg file (change your path)

The Windows 8 compatibility fixes in the Docs folder of your installation contain a couple of other tricks, too, that should be applicable to Win 10 as well. To stop random freezing, I personally had to use most of them. Didn't change processor affinity to one CPU, though, as I seem to recall one user reporting that it broke militia AI.

Running JA2 on Win10[ 14 votes ]
1. Yes, successfully after a few patches from the Win8 docs 7 / 50%
2. No, despite trying everything in the Win8 compatibility folder 4 / 29%
3. Haven't attempted it yet, waiting for others to say it works fine 3 / 21%

Keep us posted... How many people are running JA2 on Win 10 with no problems after patching?

Lol, That's secretly just option 3. Let me guess, you're still on XP?

I couldn't make it work properly in Win8. Game has been crashing in random intervals. Instead I went for Zorin USB live. Linux distro with preinstalled wine. Except for slow saving, there is nothing wrong and works flawlessly.

Played it on Windows 10, using Win 8 Fix and Compatibility Settings. Works fine so far.

I bypassed the warnings, downloaded it, and uploaded the Windows 8 Fix here.

Using registry patch should be enough.
There are also rumors that installing Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86) and Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86) also helps.
