Hey everyone, apologies if this is in the wrong thread, but it seemed appropriate to put it here.

Anyway, Urban Chaos is a difficult experience to say the least, but I am having tremendous difficulty when it comes to using the bullet train, specifically I'm getting swarmed by large numbers of powerful enemies who interrupt me before dealing massive amounts of damage before I can even attempt to do anything.

The question I am askin is, should I avoid the subway altogether, or is there some other way to increase my chance of survival here?

Thanks!

You may either
1. Skip bullet train entirely (not recommended)
2. Enter underground, spam "force start combat key" or use "always turn based" option, then use hit and run tactics, rinse repeat
3. Use different enterances. Most of them has multiple stairs. If fails travel to another city with less problematic underground, use train, backstab them.

I mostly use a mix of 2 and 3. At early game I prefer surface combat. When i have enough force i clear underground for logistics support teams. But early game underground combats are mostly suicide.

I usually enter underground after i clear the city area above it and repair/heal my main squad. Not that difficult if you just 'camp' near entrance area and wait for interrupts. It is quite useful if you have your main base with gear on the other side of the country and main team in dire need of resupplies. It speeds up their deployment quite a lot.

In the subway , you can always use the 'roofs' . Ambush them yourself ;)

The following approach has proven quite feasible to me:
1. Make sure you have the 'enforce turn based mode' option on OR you know the hotkey for activating it quickly before entering.
2. Drop 1-3 Smoke Grenades tightly around your squad's starting position in the very first combat round.
3. Have every merc not busy dropping smoke throw Molotov-cocktails at every enemy you can see + all the corners one might emerge from behind of very quickly as well.
4. Keep in mind that there's no point in conserving regen-boosts for later here.

I have to admit that even with these brutal force tactics the subway never was boring to me, but I played UC through with them.
Off course I was not always able to avoid civilian casualties that way and remember I was experimenting with tear gas instead of molotovs for that reason, but not with satisfying results, I think.

What tells me I am playing JA2 1.13 too much?
Well, when I catch a burglar in my house and after knocking him down I find myself sneaking circles around him to get some AGI out of it...
