Could someone explain how the new driver system works? I always have a hard time figuring out how to put Skyrider as the pilot and it usually just happens by fluke.

So little time here now back at work.

Do a search of posts made by Anv in the 1.13 section or Flugente's forums, there is a drivers skill which just provides benefits when traveling distances in vehicles as well as more complex tasks. Usually there's an order of how you assign the driver by clicking on the steering wheel.

You can retreat from battle to another sector, in general it's good idea not to fight every enemy squad but use hit and run tactics, sneak, use enemy uniforms for covert operations etc until you can make a decent team with good weapons, only after that you switch to more usual and straightforward playing style.

It's a part of Flugente's "Covert operations" feature -
by wearing certain clothes you can disguise as enemy soldier or civilian:

There are some differences from stock 1.13 in VR but in general it works in similar way.
For example, how you can use spy to infiltrate enemy SAM and blow up control room:

Sorry for posting it here lads, but there is no feedback topic yet.

As can be seen on the picture this scenario should be a no contest massacre(even though Sandman and Ms Roachburn still a bit wet behind the ears) but my mercs are unable to shoot at the enemy while crouching behind the walls-only at those that crouching or standing/running. Weapons have the M displayed as mounted yet accuracy for those shots feel penalized. I am able to land shots at that distance consistently without the wall cover so I am not sure what is going on. As of now I have to stand up, take shots then crouch which defeats the purpose of the cover as enemies seem to score headshots due to sheer number of bullets.

Most likely too high jsd for wall that prevents shooting through it in crouched position.

Have no idea what jsd is mate, first letter forward two steps sure. cheeky Can it be changed to provide cover and be able to shoot at prone enemies at the same time? Baddies shoot me in the face no problem as of now, I am better off out in the open prone.

Those walls are higher than your crouched position as they've always been, they haven't changed from the Vanilla days. I'm not sure why you could mount them though, unless standing. You should still get some cover to your legs but it is the same case as Time Crisis popping up and down from the cover.

Oh and put this stuff in bugzilla if you suspect it's a bug or something incorrect. I'll maybe create a feedback/general discussion thread later.

The wine glass symbol is usually a sign of drunkenness, either when you drink alcohol intentionally or mercs that are prone to alcoholism and/or while you are at facilities that have bars or liquor stores. These act independently when in environments that may seduce those more likely to drink. At the moment some of these values are high and will be halved in the next build.

As for some locations being booby-trapped...

Please excuse me for not simply digging through the resources myself, but I have a small question. If I read correctly, this mod has crossbows. If yes, does it also have bows? If yes, did you add new soldier/projectile animations?

I know now that it could never work between us, as much as we wanted to, it could never be! Not because you're a rabbit, but because you're black.

If you want, you can donate to me. This will not affect how and what I code, and I will not code specific features in return. I will be thankful though.

I really like the idea of sectors with convoys. It gives refreshing climate. However especially the sector with a tank placed like it is part of the convoy would really benefit from a feature which allows tanks to move. Not mentioning about mobile jeeps with minimis in every convoy.... I know those features are present only in post r7609 exes, but well it would be awesome!

Hello everyone, I have been trying to install and play Vengeance Reloaded as it sounds very exciting. However i must be doing something wrong, misread or misunderstood, let's try to sort it out....

I've dowmloaded 2 versions of the VR mod, one with the 1.13 7609 included and one without. I tried the one "with" first, all i've had to do was to add a fresh JA2 v1.12 install. Ended up with a few separate Data files.Data, Data 1.13, Data VR, Data this,Data that, etc.The game didn't run, Uninstalled it and tried the other version, installed JA2, 1.13 and 7609 update and finally added VR.
This time around, it played, The Ini.exe had all the options concerning resolutions, fullscreen, play into or not, etc. After spending a good 2 hours fine tuning the Ini.exe options and full of joy i started the game and guess what.....the Ini.exe options didn't apply at all. It was like playing another version of a vanilla JA2. I am having similar problems with SOG 69, can't make it work correctly. I love JA 2 and it's conversions and i am looking forward to try out some mods. Any help will be greatly appreciated, Thank you in advance ! If you need more information, ask and i will try to answer to the best of my knowledge.

Are you starting the game using the JA2_Vengeance.exe? (not the ja2.exe.) I must admit not having used the ini editor.exe and just stick with changing some of the values in the JA2.ini itself, though I'm not sure I could find 2 hours worth to change. Other gameplay options can be edited in the Ja2_Options.ini found in the Data-Vengeance folder.

Thank you both ( Hawkeye and Xafloz) for the quick responses and the heads- up. I am new to JA2 mods, save for 1.13 and AR.They work flawlessly together. I will try your methods and i'll let you know how it went.
One thing that i forgot to mention is that the installation that the game actually worked, was in the classic Program Files (not the x86).I know that games that will be modded are not to be installed in Program Files x86 but to my surprise ,in the plain Program Files though, which to my understanding are x32, the game worked, not the Ini.exe though as i have already mentioned.
As to which exe i started the game with...hnnnn...not sure, maybe that's where i made a mistake.

I am using Windows 10, do i have to use any compatibility patches ? I'd rather not mess with them.
What about the Properties options ? Run as admin, compatibility with Vista ? Do i need to make changes there ?
Should i try installing in the classic Program Files ? Or stay away from all Program Files ?
How should i install ? JA2 v 1.12 + 1.13 v 7435 + 7609 Update and VR last ? Or what would you recommend ?
Which exe must i start the game with ? the VR one ?
What about the multiple Data files ?

Windows 10 does tend to add obstacles from what I've heard by other users on here, and not just for Vengeance but most other mods and older games.

It may pay to install your mods or games outside of Program files altogether, create a GAMES folder or something elsewhere as Program files in windows does tend to complicate things and how their installed/permissions. And yes x86 is for 64 bit applications.

When you first loaded Vengeance what was the menu screen graphic? It should be a blue/violet sky with some faded oil derricks visible, if it's not you're probably loading the wrong exe.

Don't worry so much about multiple data files, that's for people messing with files who should know better, if you just want to play try the steps mentioned - Use the JA2_Vengeance.exe and play with the default ini settings, all you may really have to choose is the graphic resolution choices that you've mentioned before. Maybe try and avoid the ini editor and type your required resolution in the ini file itself and save. It's fairly straight forward that way, though I have no experience with Windows 10.

Thank you for the support Hawk, i need to clarify something, stupid of me not to notice it earlier, i am somewhat embarrassed ......
I keep on referring to "Ini.exe". I meant Ini.Editor. I prefer to use the options there as i am not really knowledgeable with the ini files. I hope that i didn't confuse anyone.

I did install in a new folder i've made, outside of Program Files, the loading screen is the one that you described, chose the Data-Vengeance\Ja2_Options.INI(executable file) and the vfs_config.Vengeance.ini(mod file). Play Intro = False, Win '98 Compatibility and Windowed mode False as well. I hope that these are the correct settings as i have been using them in my other installation, the 1.13 + AR one and it runs like water, flawlessly.

About the VR Ini.Editor however, for example, while the option to add more points to IMP mercs works as intended, the starting cash amount does not. It's not a big deal, i can make do with a small team at first. i was just wondering how come some options in the Ini.Editor do work and others aren't. Could be that it's a very early beta i suppose. I wish i've had some modding knowledge so i could experiment.

Anyway, to all of the wonderful JA modders, a great big Thank You for making one of the most favorite and beloved games ever made, even greater !!!, Keep up the good work !!!

It work for me in both examples, however I did it two months ago and as remember those two values are to change in different files.

Thank you for the pointer Xafloz, downloaded it and made a text file with the instructions. My 1.13 + AR installation runs flawlessly, so i don't think it's a Win 10 problem. Most likely i am picking the wrong exes, no big deal, i'll figure it out or i'll play "as is" or i'll wait for a more stable version. happy

Are the typical locations for airport, mines, etc. hardcoded still? Or have things been moved around since vanilla?

You're still in Arulco so most places will seem familiar but time has passed since Vanilla. Mining of ore has almost depleted most of Arulco's resources while another company has set up oil rigs, so you should find some difference there.

Here are my 2 cents:

First, I missed the "new chance to hit system" a lot. It was a superb improvement to the old system. Why you didn't include it? In the rebel's cellar there was a glitch, the scrolling of the map didn't work. After talking to the rebel queen, I still didn't understand my mission. Is Deidranna back? Who is the new enemy? Then I discovered that I couldn't repair my items to 100% no more, even after activating that feature in the ini editor. I hate that. So I conquered Cambria (forgot the new name. Why did you change it anyways? Makes no sense), so that Perko at least could repair my gear. But accidentally I hired him for 0$ and my last opportunity for my stuff getting repaired was gone. I conquered whole Cambria, just to see that you can't earn money, you maximally get 2% of loyality and can't train militia. With the lack of militia, I had to fend off the military manually, meaning: having to fight the same fights again and again. After I was really annoyed by this, I tried ALT-gabbi-ALT-o, but that didn't work anymore. Okay, having no money is not much of a problem, since the country is full of people willing to work for you for 0$. Why do they do that? Nobody tells you his motivation for working for free. Well, then I thougt, money wouldn't be bad nevertheless, conquer an Oil rig. So I conquered the closest one, the one in Balime. It didn't make money. Nobody was willing to work for me. (Even though I'm the one with the guns?!!). Maybe that's because I couldn't conquer whole of Balime, since 4 LAWs, 3 charges and *20 Grenates (bought TNT's whole stock) were not enough to destroy the all tanks there. After the army reconquered a Balime sector, the 2 destroyed tanks were even in place again! Made me angry.

These are the most annoying things: Firstly, I don't have a problem with many enemies, but PLEASE don't force me to fight the same battles again, again and again. When I free sectors, they should stay free for at least several days. And secondly: give me purpose. Why should I kill so many people, when I

1. don't know what for and
2. it it's not even appreciated by the people (0% loyalty in 2 towns)

Btw, I like the new sounds.

Have you read the intro to the mod? Or the recon report? Vengeance has a bit of storyline/theme running through it, some that is revealed further you play through interactions with characters and intel acquired as you progress. I was unaware of the cellar issue, bugs can be posted here: http://thepit.ja-galaxy-forum.com/index.php?t=msg&th=23258&goto=352663&#msg_352663.

Sounds like you're not too familiar with some of the new functions, or possibly the Player Character mod, traders like TNT or Perko can be recruited but this means you lose their trading ability, same goes for miners. There is an ini setting for head miners to automatically control mines or oil rigs for you, just like in Vanilla, or should you choose the other option you will need to assign these sorts of tasks. I personally stick with the old way and leave the head miners to, wait for it...mine!

It's been posted elsewhere that some town sectors loyalty can be affected by quests, Salinas is particularly sensitive to these, maybe a tad too much.

On the subject of town names, that was how they were in the original Vengeance mod, though we did revert some of the more rebel friendly towns back to their original names. We figured external influences or those influencing power in Arulco are partly to blame (again, read the intro, recon report) perhaps consider why Saigon is now called Ho Chi Minh city, and you get the idea. Some new recruits don't always give you their entire life story or why they should fight for you, that comes down to limitations of who we could get to record voice acting at the time as well as other factors though you should be able to read between the lines by some of their speech or some of their personal 'story' items they carry. Also a number of RPC's were already fighting for the rebel cause so it's no surprise they will work for you once you land in-country.

The team here at Vengeance: Reloaded have never asked for donations but we would like to draw attention that we use Lalienxx's SVN server to keep the mod regularly updated and in an organised matter. If you enjoyed playing Vengeance: Reloaded please consider a donation to the Server fee Lalienxx has to pay with details on his post here:

I'm glad this forum is still alive after 20 years! I might have to download JA2 again, and will try this Mod. Nostalgia bone has been hit hard.

By the way, are there plans of integrating this mod into the latest main build? The executable is quite old, with many of the newest features of the last 3 years missing.

No.

We drew a line in the sand when we got to 7609 as some of the newer features just won't work with some of the tilesets, for example. Seven still provides updates occasionally with some of his features and fixes. Vengeance: Reloaded uses it's own exe too and has some features of it's own, unique to the mod.

Ok, thanks for the info.

I really like the atmosphere of arriving into a war zone. At first I was afraid to be met with elite enemies in the first sector, and much more of them waiting for me in the next sector... to be met with a pleasant surprise.

I miss the militia equipment features but I can live without them.
What I miss more, is that I can't seem to figure out how to get NCTH working with this mod.

Hey there,

thanks a lot for all the work you put into this.

Just had a feeling a few days ago like I should play some JA2 again - thanks to the license I got with backing "flashback" I got an English copy of the game installed your Mod + the 3 DLLs from the Polish forum. And the game is running great. (But to be honest: I like the German voice and one-liners of Buns better than the English ones)

Though I have to admit that I might just not be JA2 hardcore enough to play that mod - having Raven hired for one day (besides Buns, a Doc and an MERC Mechanic + the free Guy from Omerta) I tried to get Drassen in a day. Being low on ammo and first-aid-kits or even good weapons, I needed to fight in daylight to make most out of Ravens time - thought: well night fights will get easier. Not really: my AE and Buns hardly hit the door of a barn. I ended up fighting in the 4th Drassen sector where 3 mercenaries with together about 10 shots won't even get a single hit on an enemy that is approaching from behind although he is in there effective weapons range. So with some save scumming I might get to free this and the 5th sector BUT that would leave me in a situation where my best merc will be gone and my wounded rest is almost out of ammo or medi packs - and I just read something about a nice "little" counterattack in 1.13....

Well I've had three nice evenings (spend each time much more time than I had planed) with this mod so far - but I'm not harcode enough to play this as a restart. Which is not a really bad thing as playing JA2 is always way to much time consuming. And this is a nice reason to stop again.

It's cool you keep this game alive and sooner or later I will sure be back playing this again (maybe with different settings to start with).

Thanks gsi, it has been said Vengeance: Reloaded is a bit tougher than most mods or at least Vanilla (as it is unofficially a sequel) but your outcomes are very much dependent on your experience and difficulty settings as well the host of ini options you choose. If you play again I would highly recommend turning to a easier difficulty setting. You can turn off the Drassen counter attack too, though often when I've played I've simply retreated or left Drassen before this happens as it's very tough to fight such a force early on. Guerilla tactics of hit and move are a good idea, again especially earlier in the game. Travelling to Oronegro and gaining funds from there as well as selling to nearby San Mona should help get you on your feet.

Also ensure your install is up to date.

Newer builds tend to have a number of fixes and some tweaks, including some smaller town sector boundaries that help with loyalty and defences.

Hi Hawkeye,

so I tried to use the inieditor: on vfs_config.Vengance.ini

-allow tunnel vision - to false
-starting cash novice - to 55.000$ (to see if Changes work)
-drassen counterattack - to false
-massive counterattacks - to false
-suppression fire - to 0 (disabled)

saved

Starting a new game I can choose:
- old inventory and attachments
- reduces arsenal (--> vanilla tons of weapons level)

Started game--- 45.000$

1. Obviously the changes in the ini file do not apply to the game (see money). Where do I go wrong about that?
2. Where can I choose OCTH? There is no choice at the starting screen! (The ini-Editor only finds one setting which is: "This is an experimental switch which causes the game to use a cleaned up version of NCTH calculation. This switch will do nothing if you play with OCTH (Old Chance to Hit system" - it says nothing where to change to OCTH)
3. As reduced arsenal still seems to be the "vanilla tons of weapons" - is there any way to get back to the normal or "reduced" vanilla level of weapons?
4. When I choose novice difficulty will there still be the improved AI (the only thing I really seem to like about the difficulty changes in 1.13)?

I don't use the inieditor, I thought I heard that was pretty much defunct, but might be mistaken.

I just edit the Ja2_Options.INI in the Data-Vengeance with a text editor. Maybe give that a go.

I was told Vengeance:Reloaded only supports OCTH as far as I know, which is why there's probably no option for it. I'm not familiar with the experimental code, maybe it's something Seven added, he'd know more about this kind of code based stuff, however I have that set to TRUE in my game, but that must have been from default.

You should have improved AI in all difficulty levels as far as I know, but not as much as some of Seven's own mods.
