From my experience the flickering can be caused by the browser in the background. When switching back to JA2 make sure that the browser was not the last active window.
Thanks that makes sense! I do have multiple browser windows open.

What about dragging the JA2 window between monitors? The window blanks when moving to the 2nd monitor, and returns to normal when I drag it back to the first monitor happy

Any ideas what could cause a lockup, but only while saving? I downloaded the latest build and started having game lockups while saving. So I went back to an old 8684 + Urban Chaos combo I know works fine, and the same thing happened.

Win10
8700k
1080ti
32gbram

The only hardware change is that now I am running a 4k 10bit color monitor via DP cable. Tried the game on my crappy laptop, and it works fine. I tried running it on a testbed windows that wipes itself clean on every reboot, and same lockup happens.

I did all the maneuverings, to no avail. Set processor affinity, compatibility settings, etc. Even disconnected the monitor, same thing. My guess is the GPU drivers must have caused an incompatibility of some sorts...

Try disabling antivirus for game folder, moving game out of system protected folders etc.

No AV active, the secondary drive has only windows and essential drivers installed, and the same thing happens.
The game is installed on D/gog folder, so I dont think its system protected.
Same windows version as on my Dell v110 laptop, and it works fine.

It could just be my haunted rig... nothin but issues since day 1...

I had random resets when gpu was barely at 30% utilization and temps all fine, and in desperation I changed the c13 power cable (wall outlet cable) and the resets stopped.
The replaced cable was fine, I even skinned it to check for damage, and nothing, everything looked fine angry

A few years late, but MANY THANKS!!!
The last two days i tried to get the game up and running, tried every fix (incl the files in the Doc folder), nothing worked.
Unless in windowed mode, but mouse scrolling didn´t work.
Installed your files, started, no stutter, runs super smooth now!

Thanks for the comment on the "docs" folder; I tended to plunge into the game without reading the manual.
Could be bad when I fire up my Reactor.

Some distributions have/had a "Win8RegistryFix" in the folder (or is that from some other source).
I did NOT use that; I put the three "DLL" files into the installation folder and on two platforms using Windows-10; all mods work.

... and there is yet another alternative to keep 1.13 running on modern OS

Latest 1.13 release on gitHub already comes with cnc-ddraw (by FunkyFr3sh) included

Resoltion can be chosen as usual, i.e., with the IniEditor

In main-folder, run "cnc-ddraw config.exe" to choose fullscreen/borderless window, shader, fps-rate-settings, alt+tab, etc.

The above mentioned win-Fixes still should work, but personally I came to like cnc-ddraw since it's convinient to use (and I'm not very keen to mess with registry files).
But better just decide on one way, I wouldn't advice to use both at the same time (so, either use the fixes found in "docs" or use "cnc-ddraw")

Like I said, the latest 1.13 releases already includes cnc-ddraw, but in case you want to run an older version, like 7609 (or a mod based on that), just download cnc-ddraw and slap it into the ja2 main-folder (directory with ja2.exe)

[Updated on: Wed, 27 September 2023 00:10]

How to get: latest 1.13, 7609 and more | 7609 SCI (eng) | Compiling+SVN

I need more details. (Didi Hallervorden)
