Huh, shame. Is there any way for me to edit the .exe to lower the camo index needed to become all green or tan?

I've made a couple of changes to the base Arulco Vacation .xmls, and I'd like to share it on the forums. Any of you guys want to try it out?
If you guys are interested I'll share to the best of memory what I changed.
I think I made a couple edits to the STIs using the STI Editor tool and I made a couple changes to the descriptions of the uniforms and fatigue jackets/pants.
I basically pretend that I'm playing a bunch of Cold War African mercs, so I have changed some of the equipment to reflect colonial African histories.
ie the Pattern 37 Combat Pack was changed to Pattern 70 Combat Pack and Pattern 37 Webbelt to Pattern 70 Webbelt since I wanted some South African influence.
I even added in my own hand drawn FG42 to replace the Sarac M53.

If you do want to play then I suggest using the vanilla 1.13 executable if you want to access parts of Grumm or San Mona, as otherwise you'll get a Exception Error.

Can I change this, perhaps in the Ja2_Options.ini:

I got a sector and I'm repairing, healing and training militia. Then comes an attack of two enemies. I end this attack and I'm rapairing etc. Then comes a further attack of three enemies.
This is very annoying. thumbs down

Thank you!

Do these enemies come from a nearby enemy occupied sector? If so the setting ENEMY_INVESTIGATE_SECTOR in JA2_Options.ini may be responsible for it.

Can anyone explain to me what the HorizontalDegree and VerticalDegree tags mean in the Explosives.xml? Do they have something to do with the degree with which the shrapnel is thrown? I've been trying to make it so that prone player characters are less likely to be hit by shrapnel than crouching or standing characters.

<ubHorizontalDegree> defines the angle in which the fragments are fired horizontally, based on the direction of the explosive. <ubVerticalDegree> defines the vertical firing arc starting from ground level. You may wonder why regular grenades only have a 5° vertical firing arc. This is for gameplay and performance reasons. You would need a lot more fragments if the vertical arc was 180°. Most fragments would be fired in the sky that way, which is rather useless.

You can check the explosive 85 (M18 Claymore) for example. This is a directional explosive and fires in only one direction with a 60° horizontal and 2° vertical arc. Regular hand grenades dispose their fragments in all directions.
See <ubClassIndex> in Items.xml to find the corresponding <uiIndex> of the explosive.

So if I want to make it so that a prone character will have less chance of being hit I have to make the VerticalDegree variable higher? Also does HorizontalDegree determine the spread of the shrapnel and explosive damage from the center of the explosive?

No, if you increase VerticalDegree, fragments fan out more in vertical direction. That makes it less likely to hit anyone, depending on distance between explosive and target. Even standing targets may be missed when fragments go higher up in the sky.

Spread is calculated from the center of the explosive, yes. That's the center of the tile where the explosive was placed.

Artillery strike uses regular mortar shell item (id 140 in items.xml) when used for enemy or militia.

Jerry Melo is from JA Unfinished Business (aka JA 2.5). Rude Dog is from The Bear's Pit & Urban Chaos. Thorne & Grimaldi are my creations. Onorosa & Dr. Jones are D.G.'s creations.

Also, while some are 'original' to AV the voices are not except for Dr. Jones. Thorne's voice is taken from Lara Croft 2 and modified. Grimaldi's voice is from Wizardry 8. Onorosa's voice is Honor Blackman as Cathy Gale in several episodes of The Avengers (1962). The character is basically Cathy Gale also.

I'm trying to change the Sig SG 510-4 into a Howa Type 64 rifle. Right now I realize that if the <GrenadeLauncher> tag is enabled in items.xml that the weapon in game will not be select fire, nor will it switch over to grenade launcher mode when I have a rifle grenade launched.

Right now I've removed the GrenadeLauncher tag in Items.xml for the weapon, but the rifle grenade slot is still there on the weapon in game.
How do I remove it so that in order to launch a rifle grenade I need a rifle grenade device? Like say the FAL or SLR.
Cause right now I've deleted all the attachmentpoints of the weapon in Items.xml, but the damn rifle grenade slot is still there.

Any changes to Items.xml is not reflected in-game on items already spawned or previously placed on-map with the map editor. Also, the old attachment system might be in play - Attachments.xml.

BTW, I've put the Howa Type 64 into v1.2.

I didn't know about the grenadelauncher tag.

So you're saying if I want the rifle to not have a built in grenade launcher that I'd have to remove the weapons from the map in the map editor? How do I find the weapon in the MapEditor?

You need a new game, new IMP if the IMP had it, and any placed on-map will be of the old kind (which is a majorly stupid PITA, I know). Any that spawn in the new game will be OK.

This is why i don't test every single item I add . . . I've already re-started and re-started and re-started this game thousands of times and it got real old a few years ago.

The easiest way is to add transformation to self item which will allow to reset attachments for preplaced item, and nothing else can be stored in the map.

What does that mean? I have to add an attachment say for item <2076>:(SG 510-4) into Attachments.xml?

v1.11 of Arulco Vacations is ready to download at the usual place.

I have merged elements of the SDO combat system into AV. I am eager to hear feedback on this as it is a big change.

There's a new merchant in Alma - Raul Mendez from Unfinished Business.

There has been a lot of work on the Facilities to allow for different play styles. I need feedback on how they now work together with different players styles so I can tweak them in the future. There are Facilities to allow for a supposed criminal partnership with Kingpin as his henchman, Facilites to allow the Player to become a tyrant Warlord with Secret Police and a Death Squad, and on the other side there are more facilities to allow the Player to win the hearts and minds of the Arulcan people as well as their freedom. Of course, using Facilities for all of this distances the Player from the supposed events happening while they use the Facilities - but there are enough benefits and penalties to the various Facilities that they should give a Player lots to think about if they are so inclined to try. I think there is fun in that, and that's why I included them. But like so much else in JA2 v1.13-Land . . . you have many options, and very little is mandatory

There are also several new or expanded civilian Factions in v1.11, and there can be civilian rebellions - certain factions will rebel against the player or both the player and the Queen if one if their Faction is injured or killed. There are new Facilities to win the hearts and minds of these discontented Factions to keep them happy, but once they revolt there is no turning back. For the player who wants to start Armageddon in Arulco . . . you can now rest assured you can wage war against almost everybody if you so wish.

Many of the maps have been tweaked to make them easier to move around in, and to be more fun to fight in. Army patrols and garrisons have been tweaked. Merc & IMP gear kits have been tweaked.

Many new weapons and gear have been added . . . including incendiary shotgun shells and the new Arulcan experimental XM-42 Flame-Thrower.

Much more has been done - it's been a long 8-9 months of fixing, adding, tweaking, and testing. Now I need other eyes on it, other hands playing it. We all play differently, and I welcome feedback from your point of view on how AV works with your style of play.

Hello guys,
need your help with ini editing. I just started gameplay on new version of AV. There are some updates to militia I do not like (takes a lot longer to train a block and even with best trainers i have (my 80Lead, teacher and Scream) give me only 6 guys = securing and holding cities takes too long).
I want to change militia settings, but there some area I do not get into. In ini editor, max militia per sector settings is on 20. Yet ingame, they got to max value of 32. Where is this discrepancy set? I love the AV militia logic and would like to use it.

Don't use the Ini-Editor, use Notepad++ or some similar. You can change all the militia training settings easily with Notepad++ (it's free). Search for [Militia Training Settings] , and you will find what you want to change there, especially the Leadership and Town Militia training section. lower the Leadership requirements and you will have want you want, I think.

I can never remember the steps to craft the X-Ray Detector. Still, if i need to use one, i do CTRL + GABBI cheats, then hold down ALT and tap W repeatedly, until you get to the detector. Cheesy but it gets the job done. Other way is to do online research around JA2 websites such as this one, or even Google. That detector has been in the game since vaniilla, there must be floating somewhere on the internet.

Fumble pack + XRay tube + Pack of gum = X-Ray Device
Lameboy Display + Copper Wire = Display Unit

Add Display Unit and X-Ray Device together and you get X-Ray Detector.
