I'm working on a new mod with The Scorpion, so far I have made new maps for every last one of the town sectors except Orta.

We would like to make also a weapon mod, and so far even renaming ammo or weapons doesn't work.

When is a new version of Straciatella to be expected?

We want to add recruitables now. As long as we are not defining their face coordinates, it seems to work. But as soon as we want to define their rpc face coordinates, the code finds that we're using invalid profile slots. Slots 166-168 should be safe to use and somebody messed things up on purpose. If you don't want people to mod Straciatella, just say so. Otherwise, what the hell is that nonsense?

Adding new AIM mercs might not be possible now, unfortunately. Stracciatella does not have a scrollable AIM screen. The merc slots can be substituted with new ones, though.

Adding new M.E.R.C. and RPCs should be do-able.

The next version (0.20) will have some updates on the schema of the RPC faces and profiles, that you will be specifying a profile name (like "BLOOD") instead of the profile number. I will try to help whenever possible. You can also find us on the Bears Pit Discord #ja2-stracciatella so we can work out something.

As it is an open-source, volunteer-driven project, there is no set date for the next release. It depends on the needs for one and the availability for the core members.

RETURN TO SAN AMARO



A new Mod for JA2 Stracciatella: Return to San Amaro

This is the first major mod made for Ja2 Stracciatella, made by Azazel and ... Papill0n. It retains the straightforward gameplay of the original game but can be played at higher resolutions and with all new maps, new guns and playable characters.

Features

- Hundreds of new custom maps

- Different story in early game. Provide the antidote and find/save the rebels in Estoni

- New playable characters

- Additional maps accessible with a new town

- Additional and changed guns such as the Mp5 submachinegun, the VSS silent sniper rifle, MSG90 Sniper rifle, Barrett .50 sniper rifle, Mp7 submachinegun, a crossbow (with different types of bolts) and others.



Install:

Ja2 Straciatella has its own “mods” folder. Just unzip the archive into that folder called “mods”

When running Ja2 Stracciatella’s launcher, select Return to San Amaro under the “Mods” tab.

Use “game json” to configure and adjust gameplay aspects.


So far it runs fine on two computers with 0.20 official version of Stracc.

All towns have new maps and some of my older maps are also in. My partner said hundreds and I pasted that as it was...but they are not that many. It's certainly more than a hundred totally new.
Some of the stracc devs have problems with the mod, in spite of the mod running like a dream on our 2 computers, we'll get back to you.

The moderators will upload the mod to "Kermi's when it's all ok.

Sounds like you had and still have some problems with your mod. Is it more difficult to create a mod for Strac then for the 1.13 or the original game?

I only did level and item design, plus char design and animation. My partnter did all the nasty stuff in the jsons. It is more difficult because it is uncharted territory, almoost no help from the devs... this is the first full mod on Stracc. Maps were done with the 1.13 map editor.

Have you tried it? Did you get any error in start up? Wandering quill (lynx) says he got an error on launch and I cannot do anything about it atm.

I'm away from my PC for the next couple of days, so I won't be able to try it before I return.

So patching an .exe is easier than editing json files? Sounds weird, but I guess it's like you say, uncharted territory, if you're used to work with a hex editor and know all the offsets of the data tables you can probably get things done quicker. For someone who is completely new to modding, json files should take less time to figure out.

Ok, I'm back and I tried it with the latest nightly build. Your weapons.json is missing two entries for the CAWS, ubShotsPerBurst and ubBurstPenalty. If you run into more problems with Strac's json parser I'd recommend setting a break point at throwRustError.

The mod is done for and tested only for 0.20 official. Caws is no longer in game, it is replaced by Fabarn Sdass. The new weapon shows correctly in game, it is done in another json. And it has no burst
I will talk to my json-editing partner.

More importantly, does it run ok after you fixed that problem?

So, setting ubShotsPerBurst and ubBurstPenalty to 0 in weapons.json for the caws has solved all nasty assertions for WanderingQuill(lynx). Please do the same if you are running on newer versions of Stracc than 0.20 official. We will do the same and reupload ASAP.

You need a working Stracc, version 0.20 official or later nightly build.
Then you unzip the archive 3 posts above in the "mods" folder.
In the Straciatella launcher, at Mods, you select return-to-san-amaro and click on the left-pointing arrow, enabling the mod.
You launch the game from the ja2-launcher or the Stracc exe and you play.

I think you need to get the windows zip file 32 bit from here: https://ja2-stracciatella.github.io/download/
You start the game and at first you get an error, but the exe makes a ja2 json file in your documents/ja2 folder (in my case). You can adjust game settiings and resolution in that file.
Then you can start the game and play...with our mod enabled as I said.

Hi Az75! I am enjoying your mod so far. I have detected two bugs till now. In the starting town, sector A9, Omerta, there is no sign of Dynamo or shank. I even used cheats to locate them but they simply do not show up on the map. The big picture for the sniper scope is also corrupt as it crashes the game every time I click on it. I replaced it with the original piccy from JA2 and it works fine. Thank you so much for making this mod. I like the new weapons although the graphics are not that great. I have liberated Drassen and the first sam site sector and the game has been rather easy. Hope things get more challenging later. Cheers!

Glad you had some fun.
Dynamo and Shank are in A10, in the old house with teleport downstairs.
Weapon graphics are not made to amaze anyone, they are just tools to me and there's nothing disturbing to them.

You didn't read your mails. You are supposed to go to Cambria first, and you can be in Estoni by 13:30 on day one, recruiting the now effective rebels. If you didn't get Shank you didn't get the quest to go to Estoni ASAP.

Yeah, it gets challenging on expert but with no exageration, it's some kind of a bit more intense vanilla.
