Crows are not that pointless! You can shoot them or simply throw knifes at them for extra MRK or even DEX, heh Wink

probably be more of a challenge if the crows flocked to attack you (the birds! the birds!)

Realism in games is an utopia. What you want is credibility.

The elements need to be balanced in a way that retains 'relative' credibility.

JA was never realistic. Still, the very people calling for more realism are also amongst those who played the games so they must have enjoyed the unrealistic aspects of JA because they remained credible.

The mechanics and character interactions made JA credible and immersive. That's exactly what we want.

surely if gamers want 'reality' it'd be better to play tom clancy games and sneak about in first person , just not ja world though

games would so much suck if they were realistic... guess why people prefer playing games over actually going to war

and each game has a different way to to use unrealistic elements to create fun and suspense

the mistake people shouldn't make is reducing a game only to some of it's aspects. it's the overall atmosphere and the replayability value that make a (technically) good game a great game
how many games do you guys have that you have replayed as often as ja2?

attention to detail is certainly quite important for ja2, given the amount of micromanagement, but much more important than the "so-called realism" or the number of guns, or the amount of gore is in the case of ja2 the mercenaries themselves.

apart from the ingenious turn based tactical fights of course

if somebody has played ja2 (for a certain time), in most cases he will distinctivly remember even years later at least some of the personalities in the game as opposed to many other games in which the main protagonists are extremely limited in the respect that they all look and sound alike, have no story background, no uniqueness (apart from the ever-growing breast sizes for female hero's)

my bet is that if ja3 will contain overall cool mercenaries (focus on character design and voice acting here) and an overall similar fighting balance as ja2, most current players of ja2 will like it quite well. How much do the graphics need to improve? don't know
how much more stuff does there need to be? don't know

damnit, i'd really like to see the development of that.

I guess this will be lost on computergame victims who keep crying for realism in their tactics games. One of the integral ideas behind the JA series was also to have a layer of strategic economy, with funds responsible for mercs, guards, shopping etc. The whole concept went out of the window when the cheater mods started to take over, but it's still worth remembering how in JA1/DG the economy depended on a steady cashflow.

And the series was never meant to be a combat simulation either. All of the crows, bugs, exploding heads, hiring people and so on have their traditions in other ehm.. media. Jagged Alliance, the mercenary soap :luckystrike:

soap charecters ! now theres an idea for mercs . you'd have twins ,seperated at birth each not knowing they had a sibling till meeting on the battlefield under fire.. the gorgeous upperclass tomboy not quite sure if she likes boys or girls better, causing tension among the squad.. the young lovers who have ran away to fight for freedom and liberty from oppression.. the old man , embittered by his experiences of war.. a joker , who hides his painful past behind a veneer of humour and so on. any other little parts for the soap that is JA 3? :animread:

Pretty Funny!

I didn't much care for the Sci-Fi part of the game as I like the game to be as realisitc as possible. Without it be so ridiculously hard that its impossible to finish. So I wouldn't mind not seeing those bugs. Animals like the cats are ok though

:pawprint: I don't understand You all! What do You mean with SciFi creatures? OK, the cats in the game are a little bit too yellow colored, my real beasts are more gray striped and not so stupid to roar and run in front of their meal. Maybe, they are slightly smaller, too.

:pawprint: Or are You talking about the normal sized bugs? These are living near my house. Really! That is the reason, I only leave my home with night googles and fresh batteries. Don't You have such animals in Your neigborhood? What did You done with them? Let your bloodcats eat em all?

ohh, my friday evening medics. Yes ma'am, I'll take them right now! :headbanger:

Sorry to disagree ... No bugs at my house especially the ones you need a machine gun to eliminate or Mustard gas to exterminate.
