every time i speak to the general in alma, he gets initiative and fills my merc full of holes... i've tried hiding behind tables, talking to him with high level mercs, stealth, sneak, searhcing the forums for an answer... but so far nothing has worked... is there a way to talk to the general without taking a scratch? or should i just do it the rude dog way: shoot and ask questions later, since orta is on the map anyway? :welder: :yikes:

I always have 4 or 5 mercs positioned around the room before talking to him. I figure more mercs usually gives more chances for interrupts.
Maybe you're talking to him for too long. I usually quit after he says something like, "You're not getting the hint...are ya?" Then I step back a bit and send him some burst fire. :rifle: Or you might try sending a nice grenade in his direction.

I just reached this point again, and noticed something of interest: If the alarm has never been set off and the rocket rifle never blown up, the General will attempt to do so instead of firing.
In my current game, he runs to the red switch by the door, presses it, and attempts to run north up the hallway (Fortunately, I already looted the place the second the battle was over!) I tested this with a few reloads - the only time he fired was if his way to the red switch was blocked.
For those of you having difficulty avoiding the alarm when attacking, you don't necessarily need silenced weapons. My team came in through the front gates, picked off a few red shirts who came outside, then stormed the building. If you have everyone queue up at the front doors, it's possible to kill any enemy soldiers there, and run someone to the computer room to protect the red switch.
Another point of interest: It might just be the random number thing, but Numb, Iggy, Miguel, and my IMP Merc were unable to get the first round or make an interrupt... Until I moved lvl 4 Maddog into the room? Dumb luck, or Maddog's high AGI&DEX?

I usually flock around the general before I speak to him.
I question him thoroughly so length is not a variable here.
Amount of mercs is, the more you have around him that has a clear line of sight will definetly give him a hard time.
After all he hit the deck with more holes than a swiss cheese when I was done with him.
