Are any of the soldiers you meet in Alma for Hire?? Two of them attacked me after I talked to them, don't remember their names at the moment, but the third guy, where the bomb blew a hole in the wall and was injured, he was nice, but he said he was going home to his family or something, and disappeared. Then I read something about some soldier being available for hire. Any truth to this? Conrad I think his name was...

General - After clearing Alma talk directly with him. If you talk long enough with him he'll disclose the gates of Orta, where weapons are being developed by Deidranna Scientists (Sector K4, if memory serves)
Conrad - As dzeller said, use 'Direct' to talk with him. If you hit 'Friendly' twice he'll say something like: "This not interest me. Killing you interests me. Remain calm... While I shoot you", but if you manage to hire him sucessfully, then congratulations: he's a top militia trainer, explosives and average medic. His AGI is pretty lousy, but he's pretty good since he's LVL 5 
Sargeant - Unlikely that stupid General, this soldier can actually think. In fact, the Sarge wants to desert the army, and he'll offer his Rocket Rifle as sign of good will  , but you must talk to him before (using stealth) someone push the red button, which makes the Sarge Krott RR explode  - If this thing happens (But of course it never happened to me ) simply heal him and talk with him Alma and loyalty will rise 
HINT: Simply place a merc near that button the enemy will simply run around it and you can punch (and steal their guns ) them.

In my current game mike was at the central sam site. on top of the big building. While I was sniping the guards, he appeared on the edge of the roof in sight of my spotter. Grunty dropped two mortar rounds on him, dead mike.

Will GatesHiring Conrad means no Dynamo though and slower loyalty in Alma. I tend to waste the arrogant scumbag.
No...... :nono:
In my last game I had Conrad & Dynamo on the same squad.No problems doing this.
