STICon is back!

Just kidding This is a new set of small utilites for STIs. These are all console (DOS) programs that need to be run from the command prompt. My motivation for making these tools was the need for fast manipulation of multi-page STIs, in particular when copying tiles from one STI into another. These tools are not as nice as GRV, for instance, but they allow you to do certain tasks much faster.

stitools.zip (330kb)

Here is the list of programs, more details are inside:

instiles Copy one or more pages from one STI into another. Colours are adjusted to the local palette, and offsets are preserved.

deltiles Delete pages from an STI.

imppal Import a Photoshop palette. Images are adjusted to the new palette.

exppal Export a Photoshop palette.

chtransp Change transparent colour.

picktransp Choose the transparent colour from the local palette.

Are the Photoshop utilities just for that software or are they compatable with Photosuite?
Thanx for the new goodies man!

Hi,

I think the package can be found at JA Galaxy. If not, I can mail it to you.

I don't know what Photosuite is. If it can import/export Photoshop palette, then it is compatible.

Thanx man. I'm running Windows XP and (as stupid as this may sound) can't figure how to get into dos!
The run/cmd method brings me into a Documents and Settings/etc.....with a cursor at the end. Since you can't backspace to get rid of the first part of the 'command' and my games are installed directly on my C drive I don't know how to get to dos in a 'natural' way.
I've been told that XP does not run on dos per se and instead you're run command is somewhat an artificial dos....or something.
For this reason I have not been able to run any console utils.
The AOI editor has worked for customising the IMP and changing weapons stats, and add ons but I can't get the Weaponsdescriptioneditor to save a change into a game. It acts like it saves it (even has a prompt that tells me it was successful) but when I start a new game to check it, the weapon still has it's original name. The statistics change just fine (I've even made a full auto Spas 15) but the descriptions remain the same. Is there perhaps a .txt file hidden somewhere I've got to change? I attempt all changes through the .edts that seem to pertain.
Similarly, the other utility included in the AOI doesn't seem to do anything. I can't even enter data into it. Looks like an inventory/ap editor but I really don't know what it does.

Sorry for the ramble and thanx for the tools. I hope I can get around to using them before I have to hit the road again.

For STIs the easier tool to use is STI-Edit (but be aware that it is a little buggy) and GRV. Can't help you with AIO.

The STI tools aren't technically "DOS" programs - in fact, they won't run in real DOS. They are console programs. You can run them from the command prompt, but you first need to change to the appropriate directory. Some basic knowledge of console commands would help here. To change to a different directory use "cd ...".

But perhaps the easier thing to do is to make a .bat file and write the command there. You can then double-click on the file to execute. Put "pause" on the last line of the file, so that you can see the results before the window closes. You can then edit the file and reuse it as many times as you need.

GRV is just a viewer right? I haven't been able to do anything in that program that affects a file but with STI edit I've made a Schmeisser out of tha AK image and introduced two pictures (90x100 pxls) into .stis.
Still haven't got to the point where I can place these pictures on characters but I'm getting there.

I don't quite understand you're suggestion about putting pause on the last line of the file and have no idea how to make a .bat file? Is there a utility involved in making a .bat file and if so which one?

Thanx for the response to these newbie questions.

Batch file- DOS commands in a txt file that is renamed with extension .bat.

the file then becomes executable.

pause - causes the program to pause for a keystroke - currently used with win2k and winXP so that the command/console window stays open allowing you to see errors and such.

So I write a .txt file with, say the notepad then change the extention to .bat and it becomes a bat file? I imagine the text should simply be the adress of the program I'm trying to execute....right?

Thanx and sorry again for the newbness.

I just got the Weaponsdescriptioneditor to work through sheere bludgeoning.
Much as I hate to clutter up a thread announcing another great tool for game editing I'd like to ask if anyone knows how to get to an individual file in mdguns.sti in order to replace it with one I've modded. I don't see any breakdown for them and when I look at the .sti in STI edit it allows me to cycle through them but only says mdguns.sti(multiple page) at the top where the address would be.
I need to get to individual files so I can replace (for instance) weapons I've changed to their new picture. Thanx in advance.

Dan--
after you extract UCutils or the jadesktop or wedit, look in the folder for some .bat files
there are at least 4 that wedit uses, if you right click and choose edit it should open the batch file in notepad so you can see exactly what we mean.

try doubleclicking on one from windows, then edit the file and add the pause command as a new line, save the file and try again.
dong can be great learning.

Alred: It's available at JA Galaxy, in the JA2/Downloads/Programs section, right next to STI-Edit. But unless you specifically need to use console tools (for automation of multiple operations, for example) I recommend that you use a more user-friendly program such as STI-Edit.

Earlier in this thread it was discussed how to run a dos type program in windows xp (or whatever).
I'm trying to run JA2PATCH.EXE but cannot find the .bat file that corresponds to it.
I've already copied the JA2PATCH.EXE to my desktop and now cannot erase it! A prompt tells me another program is using JA2PATCH.EXE but of course when I open the task manager it shows no programs running.
I need this to run so I can use Batman's desktop utility to alter weapons and ammo. I've come close to being able to do this with the AIO editor but it will not allow me to add a new ammo type.

Does anyone know where I can find the GUI editor?

I've looked for Excel on my system and all I can find is some Microsoft Works programs for personal finance and other such tripe.

In Batman's desktop editor he mentions having the GUI included but I can't find it in Ja Galaxy of Lords of the Bytes. I just need to be able to change weapons stats for the 1.07 .exe version of Ja2. I can change most in 1.03 but all it's allowing me to do in 1.07 is change a .txt file which is of little use for in game changes.
