I've made some changes in the Laptop & Interface folders.

The interface is based on all interfaces I could find, as I needed ideas. I hope that nobody takes offense of that. This current version is only for 800x600 and 1024x786 NIV (EDB enabled). OIV and non-EDB are still to be finished.

I don't know when I will finish the other files. Please post issues or remarks in this thread.

Concerning the laptop files... As some of you may remember from previous threads, I like to spice 'em up a little. Only desktop.pcx & Okey Dokey/confirmorder.sti should be deleted if you don't like nudity). Apart from this I've made several changes here as well since I've posted that thread.

Shots of the interface are further on in this thread...

Here's one of AIM (laptop files):

NEW VERSION DOWLOADS (19 June 2009):

Instruction: just download, unzip/copy the data-1.13 folder in your main Ja2 folder and have it overwrite everything.

Thanks for sticking/stickying it (or what do you call it?)

Damn, it's a lot of work if you wanna do it in detail. Thought it would never stop. Always found more stuff I really wanted to do. I'd say, try it out... I'm really satisfied with the result. Makes me laugh when I think back of my first interface, which was based on the grading technique...

Developed some new techniques since then.... Recalled that it took a lot of time, but never thought it would be this much. Still glad I did it, though.

By the way, if you don't like the Ja3 based inventory figures, you should be able to just replace them by yours.... I'm not too sure about them myself...

Neat.

Really neat, even.

Like the layout and the coloring.
Good job... I'd like to be a bit more constructive, but honestly I can't think of anything I'd done differently so there you have it.

Eager to see a 1024 version though.

Looks like you just too random colors and 1 pattern and mixed them together and not just look for ideas, but take pieces and mash them into your grand interface.
Pic 1
Background jungle is fine, but the butttons stick out too much.
The other green is worse. It looks like pasted together from little rectangles with very visible lines and pattern that barely fits together.
The "fish on a hook" pattern on the sides of the map, doesn't really meld into its green background either. It looks like it's been cropped from a white background and pasted onto green, leaving all those white pixels to stand out.
The plain green window for the Map Overview could be improved too.
The contract window is to bright too. Wonder what it looks like with a real contract.
The health and other bars look weird with that bolded line around them, like that everyone's supposed to have them maxed out.

Pic2.
same things as before.
Sector inventory is too bright. It's nice that you finally made a pattern but it looks , how should i say, too amateurish and only look decent when there's an item in there. But since there's no big items i can't full judge it yet.
The female silhouette is like is fine, but it should use more work to colors to really fit into the background.

pic3
paste job. vanilla "empty place" mixed with weird stat bars and too bright item slots to fit with the overall design color. I mean the almost eat up the bright numbers.

pic4
you should really stick to one set of buttons, preferably ones you can make. And background is not really background since it's over all. It like you want for force people to watch trees and since the weapon slots are see through the items will just float in the air. The male silhouette is also completely out of the place here, not to mention it's missing a piece.
The bluish thing over the stats is kinds weird too.
Green, dark green, light blue, dark blue. wtf?

pic5
taking spray tool and playing with it does not make a good picture. I don't even want to imagine how it looks in full screen. And the text is barely readable, very hard on the eyes.

pic6
again with the weird rectangle background, now even brighter and more visible smudges. And the background images are supposed to be background not the main attraction. Even if you want to see that stats or the contract fee or even the items, you can't because you mind will concentrate on the gun or on Franklin.

You're so funny, Majek.

Seems like the few things you seem to like are the things I doubt.
And all the stuff you despise, I'm actually proud of... Wink

Ain't that something!

And by the way, who says an interface should have a few patterns only... and one kind of buttons only? Not even possible. And I still like variety... Guess some people will never change Wink

Anyway my turn:

The map interface is pretty fine for me overall. I like those scar patterns on maps' sides.
I prefer the sector inventory color that way because it's really hard to see the items if the color were matching the general color.
Though have to say that the bottom bar where the laptop, options, go to sector, current and daily income should be in a brighter color and maybe a different pattern. Also, the enemy encounter interface pattern you made is a little too weird for me. Surprised

In the tactical screen, the squad bottom bar does pretty well even if it's not my style. Though yeah, I agree with Majek on the stat bars and the item slots.
Individual bottom bar, it's also good you should make some new buttons because they do stand out quite a bit.

I have more problem with the laptop section.
-The sidebar color on the laptop you used is too dark so it's a bit hard to see the text.
-The inventory slots in the personnel manager is too dark.
-The color buttons and the background for the AIM don't go together.
-The design for merc does pretty well but you seriously have to change that black background. It's like looking into a dark closet with a nerd inside. :geek:

Those scar patterns are abstract dragons actually... they're borders to fill up empty space which in my opinion looks bad...

You may have a point concerning the strategical bottom panel, brighter and different colour... Thanks.

My 2 cents: I think the overall green scheme is great. It does not conflict/blend with colors from the weapons and other gear.
I like it alot, but right now I'm stuck with 1024 --- I'm having way too much fun playing 1024 windowed.

In case you are serious, go to your data-1.13 folder, then to the laptop folder. Just delete desktop.pcx and confirmorder.sti... I would suggest that you use the excuse, though, of not being able to find the files Wink The okey dokey is brief nudity anyway... although several tits...

I have noticed glitches in the bottom bar 800x600 screen in tactical.... Any idea how this could happen? Any solutions?

Tried replacing the transparant colours and the files and it seems to have some effect, although the glitches are not completely gone then, only different... Different colours or patterns.

Any others who experienced it in the game? Any who experienced it making an interface of their own? It only seems to be with the bottom panel, so no problem if you leave your inventory open all the time.

The glitches seem to start at random in turn-based when the enemies / militia move. Once they start it gets worse every turn unless you go in and out of the tactical inventory screen (or maybe just any other screen) which resets it to how it was before the glitches.

this issue seems to have a tendency to start more easily in interrupts, but maybe that's just coincidence...

(Btw. I did not touch the red/green/yellow bars that fill the top of the screen (during enemy turn/militia turn/interrupt), so no changes there).

What kind of glitches? That's a pretty straight forward graphic. Only 1 .sti involved. I don't recall having glitches with that one and I have fooled around with that file many times.

1 thing to keep in mind if and when you work on the 1024 stuff is that you will have to use GRV to turn them into .sti files, because StiEdit will not "hold" a file that long in length. 800x600 is as big as Stiedit will go.

You mean the dogtags? gold_front.sti

No, I just changed them...

http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/97/goldfrontul0.jpg

Maybe they have the wrong size, though. I'll check it out..

Height is 114, whereas bottom bar's height is 120... so should be okay, I think.

the what?

When it is the enemy's turn, the mercs portraits and other stuff is 'hatched' (a black grid overlay).
You'll notice easily during interrupts, when the one merc that got the interrupt is not 'hatched'.

EDIT: the MDGUNS.STI in your download is missing the latest pic (#354)!

Gold Front .sti uses 2 "images", the 1st part is "in Ron's file anyway" the dog tag and red bar, the 2nd part is the mesh "hatch" screen. You can easily check this by using StiView. The original goldfront.sti also uses both images.

I'm sorry for negative feedback, but I just don't like it. Sure, I didn't make any interface of my own, so I probably can't appreciate enough the kind of work you pulled off to get this done. So please don't take it personally.
But it really looks weird. I mean, why is there blue color in stats field? That's just plain awful dude. Especially when there's weapon info screen right next to it (fifth picture). :nono:
