I was mainly wondering if the sourcecode for the older games (Jagged aliance and deadly games) were released at some point? Seeing as how the Jagged alliance 2 code was. I would love to tinker with that.

Some comments in the JA2 code indicate they contain the reworked remainder of DG code, e.g. the AI part.

You can modfiy the gameplay by editing certain files with a hex-editor. There are also some tools available, which squeeze decent assembler code out of certain exe files. Note that whatever the result may be cannot be published and dissassembly is forbidden by most current end user agreements.

Judging from some formulas, like the doctor-points there is an obvious difference between JA1 and JA2. But whatever You plan with the JA1 source, You can improve it in almost every respect by starting over from scratch.

I fear, I could not help lot.

It wasn't and I am not sure why.

Last time I heard of JA1/DG, someone from SFI was remaking it for smartphones and/or handheld consoles. Probably why they never released it too. The project also fell on its face, as far as i know.

Thanks for the info guys Smile

I know they released the first game slightly edited for the nintendo DS. Its out there.
It also seems quite awkward control-wise and im sure it wont be a hit.

I've been thinking about trying to recreate a game similar to the old jagged alliance series. Just for fun and without breaking any copyrighted material of course. But quite frankly i think its above my current skill.

I have some small experience with C# and could probably make a simple tile engine and editor after researching some tutorials online. But there's _alot_ more too it than that as im sure you know. Like coming up with all the formulas and variables for hitting people with different weapons and graphics (better than my paint skills) and such. Who knows. I might try it someday though.

I was looking for the lazy way out with maybe modding the old game to play with a friend, but seeing as how there is no source code that would probably be tougher and more pointless than actually recreating it myself. At least if i wanted to make a few bigger changes.

What intrigues me is that these old games can still capture my interest even to this day.
Oh well. Time for some sleep. Take it easy

I'd pay to play JA1 on my android ;_;

So I came across a decent AI image enhancer (hotpot.ai/enhance-face) and instantly thought of JA:DG to see what that would look like.

I took screen shots of each A.I.M and ran it through the enhancer. Turned out pretty good and it even confirmed some thoughts I had when playing the missions.

Vicky is actually a man (moustache now clearly visible)
Reuban (the AI confirmed crazy eyes)
Pops (glasses are worn)
Screw (wears lipstick)
Scope (wandering eye confirmed, missed way too many shots for her stats)
