I've heard lot of people complaining about AIMNAS's new bigmaps-only release policy.
There's various reasons, and I'm not here to debate the matter.
What I am here to do is show you how to use the old maps on a recent release.

1. Edit the vfs_config.JA2113AIMNAS.ini file to comment out the bigmaps section:
#[LOC_datamaps_dir]
#TYPE = DIRECTORY
#PATH = Data-Bigmaps
#MOUNT_POINT =

(You could also remove those lines instead of adding the # at the front, it doesn't matter.)

And, EITHER:
2. Copy the Ja2_Options.INI from Data-1.13 to Data-AIM (overwrite the one which is there already, or move it out of the way first)

3. Edit it (the new one in Data-AIM, that is) as follows:
MAX_ITEM_SIZE = 949
MAX_WEAPON_SIZE = 599
OLD_INVENTORY_ITEM_NUMBER = 1000

OR:
2. Edit the existing Data-AIM Ja2_Options.INI with this, if you prefer the AIMNAS settings:
INITIAL_MERC_ARRIVAL_LOCATION = 4870

I haven't tested it extensively yet so don't know if there's any lurking problems, but it seems to work well enough. Smile

Hello,

I took Tais' "SCI_AIMNASv20_r4561_20110709_fixed" and copied the Wildfire maps mods from this SVN over the top.

https://ja2svn.dyndns.org/source/ja2/branches/Wanne/JA2%201.13%20Wildfire%206.06%20-%20Maps%20MOD

I copied Ja2_Options.INI from Data-1.13 to Data-AIM

and changed INITIAL_MERC_ARRIVAL_LOCATION to 4870

That seems to be working,..

That was researched using the ER SCI, did he change how he does them for the latest? If not, it should work as written. I'll grab it and check...

Edit: Yeah, looks like he did change it with the v27 SCI. Would be very tricky to do with that one. Easier to just grab the normal SCI and install AIMNAS over it.

PS: Unlike Tais v27 SCI the 'AIMNAS Easter Release" doesn't appear to be NCTH supported

The best i can do at the moment is use Tai v27 SCI and overwrite the maps and tilesets with those from v21.

But the game crashes when I enter or exit the rebel hideout.

I am noob on that forum and new on JA2 1.13 and mods, so excuse me if i sound stupid...
As I understand there are some problems with maps on AIMNAS MOD.

First I followed this instructions (Installing AIMNAS - All you need to know)
http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/board/ubbthreads.php/topics/305818/Installing_AIMNAS_All_you_need.html#Post305818
and installed AIMNAS EASTER Release from 6.7.2012
EASTER release link
In thread I saw that only some sectors with red X are playable, those are new big maps. Other sectors arent finished so I tried first few. They worked great but now I want to see whole game like this...

Then I tried Maes advice in this thread to convert AIMNAS to old maps where you can play whole game.
It worked. But It seemed to me that maps are converted to OLD JA2 vanilla maps.
Am I right there?

Then I found this thread (Tais' SCI's Part 3) http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/board/ubbthreads.php/topics/301591/1.html
and this version of AIMNAS from 20-Jun-2012
SCI_113tais_r5354_AIMNASv27 from http://kermi.pp.fi/JA_2/v1.13_Releases/Unofficial/English/tais/
What maps does this version feature? New big ones or old small ones?

What I would actually want is to play AIMNAS with maps from Wildfire mod. Is this possible?

Last version SCI_113tais_r5354_AIMNASv27 seemed promising. There were no red Xs, since initial resolution is set to 800*600.
Well I was kind of dissapointed when they appear back when I set resolution to 1024...
I guess I will just go through that X marked sectors. I just set ini files and create new team.
I dont like to play on old maps, its almost 10 years since I was playing that maps and I still remember some features. I want new content.
I liked map on Shady Job, but that mod is to buggy, I didnt manage to get it to work properly.

Anyway tnx Smeagol for this. Its massive work what you have accomplished with this mod.

is there a way to play with all the features of AIMNAS but still use the zoomed in close-up view from the original jagged alliance? I like to play with only 4-8 mercs, so even though the massive maps are awesome the zoomed out view makes it harder for me to focus on things

With zoomed-in view you mean a lower screen resolution, I guess?

If yes, that can easily be changed in the ja2.ini in the main ja2 folder. Just change the resolution there to this (wall of text, cut directly from the ja2.ini behind the spoiler sign, thus hidden):

ok, one more problem then I'm out of everyone's hair for a bit. The animations for each soldier go way faster than I want, but only during the enemies turn, when I'm in control things move at the regular speed. Tried setting the highspeed timer to false in the .ini and turned off all the ingame highspeed settings but it didn't change anything

That's probably the speed setting for enemy / militia turns. That setting can be found in the ja2options.ini in the appropriate data folder (probably in data-aim or data-bigmaps, depending on version).

Current settings probably look like this (just make a text search for "speed" in the ini file):

ENEMY_TURN_SPEED_UP_FACTOR = 0.3

change Enemy Turn Speed to 1.0

Hey sorry to bump this, but I'm actually encountering an issue with the latest version.

The old maps refer to the original item IDs, and since the items in AIMNAS are completely rebased/reordered, this results in a lot of Placeholder NADA items in the vanilla maps. For instance, a chest in the original maps containing Bipod (uiIndex 209 in Vanilla) will contain an empty placeholder (uiIndex 209 in AIMNAS). A bipod in AIMNAS is index 1021.

Anyone able to think of a good solution to this problem? It's looking a little bit like a slogfest, since I might have to merge the old item lists with the AIMNAS item lists, which might be very difficult/tedious to do.

You have a job on your hands . . . Merging Items.XMLs will be a major headache because AIMNAS and v1.13 items are not entirely compatible. Alternately, you can delete all items on a map in the Map Editor and place new items. Tedious to the extreme but safer and less prone to error than merging AND modifying Items.XMLs.

Yeah, it's quite a bear. I was thinking one of two things:

A. Staying in AIMNAS. Compare the original item list, and carry over the important items I'd expect to be in the maps. This would likely lead to a lot of duplicate items, but would effectively fill in the correct items where they need to go.

B. Return to Vanilla 1.13, try and carry over the important items from AIMNAS into vanilla. Primarily some of the weapons, gear and armor.

I'm in a bit of a predicament. AIMNAS undoubtedly has 1.13 beat on the sheer scale of items and weapons, it's amazing. However, I want to play on the original maps since those are what Arluco is to me. The Big Maps are nice, but they make it feel like a totally new island.

You can try using the tool I made to remap items in the old aimnas maps to the ones in new aimnas version. It takes a bit of setting up, but you should be able to get a quick and dirty version working in a reasonable amount of time.

I might add - in order to play AIMNAS on small maps you will want to at least return BASE_SIGHT_RANGE to 14 in place of 25 in Data-AIM/Ja2_Options.ini
Also breath loss in APBPConstants.ini should be returned to normal values.
And CTHConstants.ini should be edited in order to reduce firing accuracy.

Thank you. In that case, how can I tell which folder a mod uses for which files? There has got to be some reason why AIMNAS uses two Data folders...

Edit: Or to be more precise, I would like to merge the item lists so that the item references in the small maps link to an equivalent item in AIMNAS. Which files from which folders to I have to merge? Is ita the vanilla data or data-113 for the maps? I.e. the crowbar in Omerta, which number does it use? At the moment it appears as NADA, so it must be a placeholder number in AIMNAS...

Okay, nevermind. I figured it out.

Now I have another "problem". The bio texts for some mercs, both on AIM and MERC are wrong and actually describe another merc. Can this be a result of using the original map folder?

Recently converted WF_6.07 maps to items from current AIMNAS wiith the help of awesome utility MapTool (many thanks to The Bob - creator).
One more observation from my experience on palying with AIMNAS items on small maps. In order to restore game balance, parameters of optic sights should be somehow edited (manually in Items.xml, I think). Current vision range bonus even for 2x scope in AIMNAS (130) exceeds bonus, which on small maps gives 10x scope (90). Scope 10x gives vision range bouns 400 meters. Such bonuses are out of scale for small maps.
