I was really excited when it was announced then I remembered that the recent JA games were a bit underwhelming so I waited a bit.
Is it worth buying it ?

I was wondering about this too. Thanks for the feedback!
So what's the best JA game right now?

@BlueTrin
I found it worth the money but be aware that there is a certain risk that you dont like it. The dev wants to fix 2 more bugs and then there will be probably no more patches after that.
@tbird94lx
I think the difficulty setting only changes how much damage the enemys will do.
Funny enough the first sector is one of the very toughst ingame. It was much easier before but they changed it because people complained of it being to easy.
The road fights a pretty tough too. But after figuring out how the fight system works (takes a while to really get it) its also no problem on impossible setting.

tbird94lx wrote on Sun, 22 March 2015 02:08among pc games its with the longest running fanbase with civilization and simcity fanbases...and they keep updating regular..ours fanbase is still addicted to 1999 game thats just tweaked..you'd think a solid developer would see that and think there might be something here
You know, it is not like no one has tried yet. But it always were some low level, relatively inexperienced dev studios with low ranking publishers trying too hard to be unnecessarily innovative with the franchise and thus failing miserably on living up to the standards set by SirTech 10 - 15 years ago and a truly dedicated fanbase, refusing to let a true classic die whilst waiting faithfully for a worthy successor.
On the other hand, SirTech pretty much was an obscure indie developer too back in the days, having created little more than this one rather successful franchise during its existence. One that seemingly cannot really die gracefully, but also somehow cannot be successfully resurrected or rebooted. Must be some sort of curse, maybe that's why no serious developer is touching it?
But seeing the recent revival of turn based strategy and tactics games, it really is not the genre that is unpopular or unprofitable.
But on the other hand, the rather underwhelming support of the Kickstarter campaign for JA:F was a clear indicator that the JA franchise isn't as popular as we would like it to be.
Those crowdfunded Games that really make it on release and deliver as hoped usually reach a clear overfunding many times over, thus giving the devs ample time and space to breathe and deliver a quality product. JA:F barely made the minimum, which was way too tightly calculated also. But then again, FC didn't really have to show anything at the Kickstarter, which would instill confidence in their skills and the product they were peddling. Other devs at least have some alpha gameplay to show and lots of impressive artwork.
I'd wager, if this community could cobble together a working demo of a decent JA style game on a modern engine, it could collect more crowdfunds than FC did easily.

I really can't believe that the company released a game with 10% content of the original JA and expected people to actually buy it so they can finish the rest of 90%. REALLY? I kept on laughing as they were saying that bad reviews on steam were hurting sales and such... Oh then maybe you should make a better game next time? Or we should lie in order for you to sell more?
