A new Mod for Stracciatella: Return to San Amaro

This is the first major mod made for Ja2 Stracciatella, made by Azazel and Papill0n. It retains the straightforward gameplay of the original game but can be played at higher resolutions and with all new maps, new guns and a new playable characters.

Features

- Hundreds of new custom maps

- Different story in early game. Provide the antidote and find/save the rebels in Estoni

- New playable characters

- Additional maps accessible with a new town

- Additional and changed guns such as the Mp5 submachinegun, the VSS silent sniper rifle, MSG90 Sniper rifle, Barrett .50 sniper rifle, Mp7 submachinegun, a crossbow (with different types of bolts) and others.

Ja2 Straciatella has its own “mods” folder. Just unzip the archive into that folder called “mods”

When running Ja2 Stracciatella’s launcher, select Return to San Amaro under the “Mods” tab.

Use “game json” to configure and adjust gameplay aspects.

IMP with AIM mercs voice/portrait

Hi
I wonder if there is a possibility of creating a custom IMP with for example: Reaper, Barry or Grizzly portrait and voice.
I would want to create a whole team of 20+ IMPs so it would be nice to use voices and portraits already used in game and not to create that many new custom ones.

If there is a possibility to create own custom voices and portraits, shouldnt it be easier to just somehow enable picking from those already in game?

Good looking 1.13 with 2xsal and proper config

Good afternoon, JA2 fans.

Many of us now have 2k or higher screens, and playing the game at native screen resolutions makes every element on the game look too damn small for most gamers.

Most don't want to read the ammo count written in 4 by 5 pixels in a 2k display. And let's face it, JA2 fans are aging, their eyes are not what they used to be.

Fortunately, cnc-ddraw wrapper was included by Asdow on Oct 15, 2022 (many thanks for this, you are my personal hero)

The cnc-ddraw wrapper has the ability of using shaders with the glsl format.
Those glsl files are scripts that inform the shader engine on how to scale pixels. Players used to play old console emulators will probably familiar with this.

There are some raw glsl files that simply zoom pixels, making a 1by1 pixel become a 2by2.
Other glsl files will apply some mathematical oriented approaches, like linear or cubic zoom
But there is a special class of glsl that tries to "understand" pixel art and restore its meaning in the upscaled output. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixel-art_scaling_algorithms

2xsal.glsl is one of this gl scripts.
2xsal will try to understand what a circle, a line, a border, text, and try to recreate those known forms into the zoomed output.

To activate such shader script you will need:

1 - A recent "game folder" or a full install that includes the folder "Shaders"and the file "ddraw.ini" (with the proper ddraw.dll)

2 - To change the SCREEN_RESOLUTION in the JA2.ini to a good resolution.
In general, all shader scripts work best if the resolution chosen is a multiple of your native resolution.
Example: My native resolution is 2560x1440, so I have chosen 4 ... 1280x720 as my SCREEN_RESOLUTION, because it is exactly half of my native resolution.

3 - Get your glsl in the "Shaders" folder.
The "Shaders" folder included in the "game folder" will probably have a good amount of glsl scripts.
The default used at the time of this writing was "nearest-neighbor.glsl" and it preforms similar to a mspaint zoom.
You can decompress the shader-package.zip provided in the game folder to get more shaders.
Or you can simply google for new glsl files. Example: "glsl 2xsal"

4 - Change the shader on your ddraw.ini to your desired glsl.
Edit the line "shader=" with the relative path, to the glsl file, from the JA2 base folder.
Example: "shader=Shaders\2xsal.glsl"

5 - Enter the game, in full screen, and enjoy.

Self-enforced Errors

Hey, All,
(This is a praise file)

I am wrapping up a game of JA2-1.13, (7609 version), and ran into some issues.
First, the voices on the Mercs in the tactical/ sector maps dropped out; weird. Closing the game and restarting the computer didn't help.
(other sound files - music, MP3 files were unaffected)
Second, the mine income had plummeted and Town loyalty(ies) had fallen.

Conclusion (eventually) - I had a "VOLTAGE" event, which had the effect of corrupting several files in the JA2_1.13 game folder, ones related to sound.
If someone knows which files these are, that would be useful information - for damage-control or tinkering purposes.

I "parked" this whole folder and "pulled" a stored <copy> of the GAME FOLDER onto the target computer.
I resumed play, finding in the process (after several extremely HOT fire-fights, that I don't want to "re-fight") that the Mine income had dropped.

When I pulled the stored game folder from the external drive, had I "SAVED" all the changes to the INI, Reputation_Settings.INI, MercProfiles.xml in the old installation folder?
No, I didn't save any changes to the INI or INI-files in DATA-1.13 folder, nothing.

Over the last year I've made numerous and un-recorded changes to the INI; un-recorded because the corrupted files in the "parked" folder was deleted, permanently (not even in Recycle Bin).
I want to Praise the Forum, and those who created the "posted messages" file - very useful. You can look up your previous posts, and the responses.

To NEWBIES, spend some time finding out how to use the FORUM and the various categories.
Also, take seriously warning messages about how you modify the INI (main) or other .ini files, as well as .xml files.
The Forum listing and messages about new user information is well worth the time taken;

My long-winding-road game is nearly done, just north of Meduna, so I'll just take my lumps and finish it.
When done with that, I'll take the good advice given to install a fresh new 1.13 install and save that with all my tweaks.

Expert difficulty getting frustrating. Advice appreciated.

I am a Jagged Alliance fan from way back. Made my own Deadly Games campaign when I was just fourteen and consider JA2 to be the best game ever made. Haven't played the game in ages and decided to finally test the 1.13. I am playing on expert. Loved the beginning. Intense, challenging and immersive. I appreciate the work put in to the game by the modders very much. Incredible detail, old mercs, literally tons of weapons, new features, everything!

And now for the problem at hand... my immersion and desire to play is dying. There is only one reason for that and it may be an inherent flaw in the game itself, unfixable and unavoidable and just made worse by the increased difficulty.

First of all I know how to play this game despite not having played it in years and never as difficult as 1.13 on expert. I just killed 90 enemies in the Desert SAM half of which were blackshirts without taking a single hit in return and without save scumming. Illumination grenades, four spotters, fifteen snipers and Mike is all it took. I have a half a million in the bank account (in the game) and 32 mercs. Shitty mercs trained to be decent to good. I am not going to lose this game, but I am losing my desire to play.

Reason is this: enemy camps on the worst maps of Arulco and refuses to fight on the good ones. There are on average 8-12 guys defending the city sectors while there are hundreds on the roads. I could have conquered Cambria on autoresolve. I consoled myself by reminding myself that a big counter-attack was coming and it would give me the proper fight inside the city that I had always wanted to have. It came, it conquered the mine as I was forced to retreat and then it sat on that mine map never moving anywhere again. I know that it is a strategically important location, but it is also, aside from Grumm mine, one of the most boring maps to fight on. I tried to force the large group to fight me in Cambria, but they never would. No matter what I did. I went so far to get a city fight that I unassigned all the militia that I had trained and moved my mercs away, essentially letting them take the city and all they did was send eight red shirts to occupy a sector that was handed to them on a platter. Later on I killed them all in the Desert SAM and another group and another group and another group after them.

Cars are useless because pretty much every road sector is occupied by a patrol at all times. I killed five patrols on my way from Estoni to buy the hummer. I drove back and killed another five groups. It's not like they are a challenge. I had only three snipers driving the car and killing them all. 10-12 guys per sector aren't a challenge, they are a constant road bumb and that's all, but damn if it isn't getting tedious. I have a 20 merc group moving the roads autoresolving fights at all times while five medics follow them just to get anywhere. I also have some mobile militia, but they never seem to kill anyone for some reason. Obviously the autoresolve is stacked against me and I have to take a lot of load games not a lose a single merc, but I refuse to fight on the same plains roads over and over again.

Now I am at a point where there's a hundred guys attacking the Desert SAM again. It would be a lovely fight in any other city sector, but not on that map. Last time I made a semi-realistic ambush to kill them all, but this time I'll probably just put dozens of explosives and mines on the map edge that they are coming from and a shooting squad made of twenty veteran militia and 32 mercs in front of them, it'll probably kill them but it'll also kill the rest of immersion that I have, and there would be so much immersion in this game without the endless repetition of what is essentially the same fight on the same map over and over again.

So there it is. The game is too easy and too frustrating at the same time. I'd love to fight a hundred blackshirts in a city sector instead of a handful of redshirts, and I am tired of slaughtering endless easy patrols on the roads and fending off the only proper counter-attack that ever comes on the same desert SAM site map.

Is there any way to fix this problem midgame? I am open to every suggestion at this point, even editing the .ini (though I don't know what I'd change there), because unfortunately I am getting bored even though I really, really, love this game otherwise. I don't want to abandon a campaign I've already put countless hours in, but I feel like the game is at this point actively forcing me to play it in ways that I don't want to play it.

Add pocket to radio set

I've been struggling with this: I want my radio operator/mechanic to have a large pouch in the radio set to carry around his tool kit more neatly, but I guess I'm misunderstanding the system because anything I've done to LoadBearingEquipment.xml has had no effect, and I've gotten nowhere trying to find it in other item types.

Is it possible to remap rmb on v.19?

v.19 is the only version that launches the game successfully on my Android device. It has no right mouse button functionality however. I have an external keyboard as my only accessory. Is there any way to remap the right mouse button to a particular key by editing game files or any other way?

Drassen Sam Site taken and controlled, sky turned red again

as the title says.

i captured the drassen SAM site, sky turned green, trained militia to defend it.
move my main troops to cambria, and after im done there, the airspace around drassen is red again, although i still controle the SAM site.

is this a bug? or some sort of feature like mobile SAMs?

Ps: cant upload any screenshots, bc "Maximum File Size: 0KB"
