RecoilX VS RecoilY

Wed, 28 October 2020 08:57

Studying the weapons data tables of SDO i have come to realize that weapons with less range tend to have higher RecoilX. Does RecoilX influence autofire/burst accuracy over range more than RecoilY not sure ?

7609 SCI (fully assembled) (eng)

v1.13 7435-7609 installation allready fully assembled; Tue, 27 October 2020 15:27

7609, already fully assembled

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7609 SCI (fully assembled) (eng) (updated GameDir, more fixes) ==> improved version *strongly recommended*

7609 to-go (fully assembled) (eng) ==> standard version

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7609 (eng) (not assembled) (eng) (archives zip instead of exe, links to mods, shortened instructions)

==> basic 7609, no SCI (alternate version to official 7609 download)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Assembly:

7609 to-go ==> Standard-Version

So far, getting 7609 requires the handling of two files:

"JA2_113_FullRelease_English_7435.exe" (following: "Full 7435") and "JA2_113_UpdateForRelease7435_English_7609.exe" (following: "update to 7609").

The later contains the file "zPatch.bat" and it's requirements for running (and two changelogs).

Basicly, running zPatch.bat is doing the update to 7609.

Looking at the zPatch.bat,

it deletes the following (from 7435):

Data-1.13\MercEdt\004.EDT
Data-1.13\MercEdt\013.EDT
Data-1.13\MercEdt\014.EDT
Data-1.13\MercEdt\015.EDT
Data-1.13\MercEdt\020.EDT
Data-1.13\MercEdt\031.EDT
Data-1.13\MercEdt\037.EDT
Data-1.13\MercEdt\040.EDT
Data-1.13\MercEdt\149.EDT
Data-1.13\MercEdt\167.EDT
Data-1.13\MercEdt\169.EDT
Faces Viewer.exe
Merc Profile Editor.exe
MercProfileEditorInit.ini
MercProfileEditorLanguages.xml

The mercEDT later will be added in "Data"
FaceViewer later will be added again in "Tools".
An updated version of MercProfileEditor later will be added in "Tools".

Adding the stuff mentioned above and the rest of the update-files stem from "zzExtractedFiles".
It will overwrite stuff in 7435, if allready there (triggered inside zPatch.bat).

So far, that's moving a few files and the rest is classic adding and overwriting.

Except when "zzToolP.exe" is starting "zzToolP.patch" (triggerd inside zPatch.bat)

REM EXECUTE PATCH OPERATION
REM zzToolP.exe is just a rename of GNU Patch v2.5.9 binary
ECHO Patching Necessary Files...
ECHO.
zzToolP.exe -p0 -s < zzToolP.patch
ECHO.
ECHO ---= File Patching Done =---
ECHO.
ECHO.

which will directly apply changes to those files:

Data-1.13\Ja2_Options.INI
Data-1.13\TableData\MercProfiles.xml
Data-UB\AddOns\Data-UB-1.13\TableData\MercProfiles25.xml
Data\Ja2_Options.INI

The above files also will get an backup (e.g. Ja2_Options..INI => two dots instead of one).

Beside the changes to those four files directly above, it's just adding and overwriting (few files deleted, but later added at different place).

All files handled by the zPatch.bat effect 7435 only (not vanila).

Once the files from "update to 7609" have been added to "Full 7435" and zPatch.bat has been executed, 7609 is fully assembled. At least, if I haven't missed something.

If I'm not mistaken, I wonder why there is no ready-to-use, allready fully assembled 7609-version, ready for download ? If there is any, I'm not aware of it.

So I assembled a full 7609 ("full 7435" + "update to 7609"). Then I deleted the four backup-files (who's gonna need them nowadays?) and added a Readme (basicly this text here).

This done, I zipped it into 7609 to-go (fully assembled) (eng)

Extract and copy content into original JA2 (gold) (english version).

If you rather assemble it yourself, it's based on official v1.13 7435-7609 english ("JA2_113_FullRelease_English_7435.exe" + "JA2_113_UpdateForRelease7435_English_7609.exe") from Bear's Pit download section.

Complete instruction on how to assemble 7435-7609 and more can be found here: How to get: latest 1.13, 7609, feature-descriptions and more

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7609-SCI ==> Improved Version

Based on the SVN-GameDir for official 2014 release (a.k.a. 7609) which sevenfm provided below, I was able to assemble an improved version.

The standard version is based on GameDir 2171, this one uses GameDir 2577 (branch ja2_data_official_2014, not main trunk).

It comes with fixes and improvements (still matching 7609.exe, no worries) and assembling it is slightly easier since no .bat-file is involved.

Did checkout and update the SVN-GameDir and then added the exe-files from "zzExtractedFiles" (part of "JA2_113_UpdateForRelease7435_English_7609", see above).

Took data from svn-log to update ChangeLogData and added both changelogs (again from "JA2_113_UpdateForRelease7435_English_7609") as well.

Updated the folder "Docs" with content taken from trunk 1.13 (8911/2577) (trunk is the main-1.13-project, branches are for other versions, like the official 2014 (7609)). Reasoning for this was to provide up-to-date links for help with technical issues and other useful stuff. Might be worth a look.

Added a Readme and then zipped it into 7609 SCI Fully assembled 7609 with more up-to-date GameDir and therefore more fixes.

Extract and copy content into your original JA2-instal.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Both versions work, but due to the fixes in SVN-GameDir, I strongly recommend to use the 7609 SCI

Can be used for any 7609-mod and works with 7609+AI as well.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you wanna sneak peak the ChangeLog:

ChangeLog_GameDir_2171-2577

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you're not convinced by the SCI-versions, you may wanna give this alternate version of a basic 7609-download a look:

7609 (eng) ==> Basic 7609-download, no SCI

7609 (eng) is an alternate version of official v1.13 7435-7609 english (GameDir 2171, see above). This is not an already assembled SCI, it's the basic 7609-download, packed a little more convinient.

The archives in official version are self-extracting zip-archives (exe). In the alternate version (7609 (eng)) those are ordinary zip-archives. I considered this more convinient.

The alternate version also contains intall-instructions and links to mods (and link to other language-versions of 7609). The official version lacks this, which at least for instructions seems unconvinient.

Anything inside the 7435/7609-archives themselves is unchanged and the same as from official download.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edit: Added improved version (7609-SCI), text and links for it.

Edit: Changed title of topic to "SCI". Should be more recognizable when using standard terms.

Edit: added sneak peak to ChangeLog

Edit: added 7609 (eng)

Multiplayer Test - Features Working and Bugs(Build 3900DE)

Mon, 26 October 2020 19:35

Hi!

Because I am playtesting the newest Build 3900(DE) right now(2 Players).
I list here the bugs/features, which I spotted, to generate a more or less complete Featurelist in the end.
Please write some comments regarding the bugs/features, so I can check, if it is a common problem, or if it is just me ;)

Features Working:
- Connecting with another Player
- Sync of data while playing
- PlayerMovement
- AI Movement
- Player Shooting
- AI Shooting
- A.I.M.
- Leaping over fences
- ActionPointSystem
- Healthpoints

Features Missing:
- Climbing on Rooftops(wasn't it implemented some revisions ago?)
- Putting something in the inventory when taking something (tested with Crowbar in Omerta)
- EMail folder is empty
- Just "Battles" are working
- Time is not elapsing
- No Merc is on Duty
- Mercs have different prices (not syncing between Players)
- Multiplayer retry. If connection is lost, it goes to the main menu straight away.

Bugs:
- Client: Mouse is lagging (not visible on Server side)
- Server/Client: Ghost Movements (Matrix style: Person of the other Player walks the same path twice)
- Server: Scrolling Graphic distortion
- Loading a Game freezes the Game of the Client (Server is okay), disconnecting does not help, or it shows an error(corrupted file)
- Switching into Background -> Music is playing, game freezes
- Video: Music/Sound is playing, but the screen remains black
- Option Menu is not responding, and wrong MouseIcon, when Ammunition in hand, and Game ended(all enemies destroyed)
- Sync Error: Server: Enemy on the ground, Client: still standing, after critical hit(no idea how to reproduce)

That is all for now. Please write, if I should add a point, or test specific scenarios.

Greetings
Karm

Installing and setup JA2 v1.13

Installation:

https://i.imgur.com/9mqnBsw.png

installing ja2 1.13

step 01: Install your original JA2 (from CD, Steam, GOG or elsewhere)
- since Windows-Vista some folders are "protected", so don't use Program Files, Program Files (x86), etc.
- you can have multiple instances of JA2, so you may wanna make a copy of original install as template for later use
- if you purchased ja2 via a platform that installs it into some special folder (i.e. Steam Folder), it's adviced to copy-paste ja2 from there to somewhere else
step 02: download latest 1.13 from link above
step 03: extract the downloaded file from step 02 (it's a zip-archive) over your JA2 installation (from step 01), allow overwriting of existing files

Basic setup:

https://i.imgur.com/1IP8ANR.png

The version shipped from gitHub already comes with pre-configured basic settings for an immediate start of JA2 1.13

Some worth mentioning ways to change or adjust those basic settings

INI-Editor:

recommended use: choose basic settings such as resolution and mod to play

There might be situations where you want to use a mod on top of 1.13, change the screen reolution or select features and fine tune settings and options.

The IniEditor is build for that, however, it's recommended to only use it for some of the basic settings, like resolution and/or which mod is used.
Those might be chosen more conveniently with the Ini-Editor (see "IniEditor setup" below).
However, if it comes to feature selection and all the other settings in the ja2_options.ini,
it's recommended to edit the respective files for feature selection and fine tuning directly with a texteditor like notepad++ instead (scroll down for more on that)
It can still be done via IniEditor as well, if you prefer to do so, no worries. It's just a recommedation.

Reasoning for the use of an texteditor for those tasks is simply convinience. The ja2_options.ini has grown large over the years and the drop-down trees in IniEditor might be less convinient than using a search function in a texteditor. No more worries about not being able to change a value (which can happen in IniEditor if those fields got forgotten to be updated), just type them directly. And some former entries of ja2_options.ini have been moved to other files not covered by IniEditor (i.e. "Starting Cash"), so you may want to look at such files as well and need a texteditor anyway.
See further down this thread for some informations about other files you might want to look at (not nescessary, but based on FAQ those seem to be of interest)

When choosing certain features, it's highly advised to at least take a peek at feature descriptions (scroll down to links). That can save a lot of time, avoid some possible frustration and allows you to make full use of them.

Quick Setup IniEditor:

step 01: select mod you want to play
step 02: select matching options-ini
step 03: select matching exe
step 04: select screen resolution
step 05: save changes made

click on "INI-Editor setup" to see more details

--
Some typical combinations within IniEditor
--
--

cnc-ddraw:

The use of modern hardware and OS with an old game like ja2 was causing issues in the past (blackscreen, performance lags, non working alt-tab, etc.).
That's no longer a concern, since Oct 2022 cnc-ddraw, a neat little app (by Funky Fr3sh), is implemented into JA2 1.13 (no need to download and instal it, it's already included). That's working way better and easier than the former provided registry-fixes and such.

In case you want or need to configure the settings used by cnc-ddraw (i.e. fullscreen, fps-rate, etc.) run cnc-ddraw.config (it's in the main directory)

notepad ++:

One of the main configuration files is "JA2_options.ini" (mod-specific, i.e. for 1.13 it's in Data-1.13). There we decide on which features to use ingame and handle a large scale of other settings. Editing this can be done within the IniEditor (mod-specific, choose the matching one).
It is, however, advised to use a resourceful text editor, like notepad++ ( link ), instead. That's worth it for the search function alone and is a much more convenient way to read and edit it.
This file contains a lot of information and settings to decide on. It's recommended to read it closely. To make full use of it and to understand possible dependencies of some settings and features, it's also advised to read the feature descriptions if in doubt.
Links to feature descriptions and showcase videos are provided further down.
More detailed information on editing the ja2_options.ini and other important files will soon be added further down as well (w.i.p)
You may also should consider to take a look at the Starter Documentation for a brief overview
For further advice and help, visit Bear's Pit Discord

XML-Editor (malfunctional):

The Xml-Editor will corrupt your files when saving with it.
To some degree files can be watched, but don't save them. Without being able to save, it's pretty useless.
Don't risk using it!
If you want to edit xml-files use notepad++ instead (or another resourceful texteditor)
There is work on a new version of the Xml-Editor, but it's not yet finished.

JA2 v1.13 7609:

https://i.imgur.com/GbPvm9K.png

What's 7609?

Think of it as a version number of 1.13 (JA2v1.13)

What's so special about this version?

In short, it's a version that is used as base for many 1.13-mods. Typically you'll install your original JA2, put the 7609-version of 1.13 over it and next the mod-files on top of those two. If you're interested in mods for 1.13, scroll down a little further to see more descriptions and links for those. It also works as standalone version.

It's from 2014, will it still work?

Yes, it's still working, no worries.

What's the difference to latest versions of 1.13?

It's missing some of the latest features, some quality-of-live changes and latest bugfixes. Most of the favourite features are already included.

Why would I want to use it?

- Since many mods for 1.13 use it as base, it's required for those mods.
- If you're a new player or coming back after a while, the latest versions might can be a little overwhelming. Therefore the 7609-version is a good way to get used to 1.13, it has a lot to offer and is still easier to get started.
- If you're an advanced and/or curious player, there is a special version of the 7609-exe available. It's called 7609+AI (by author seven) and can be used to replace the standard 7609-exe.  For more info on 7609+AI scroll down a little more.

It seems to be a pain to proper instal it, any solution for this?

Either use the step-by-step install-instructions (following next) or scroll down to 7609-SCI where you can find a more easy to install version (download, unpack, copy over original JA2)

Downloadlink for 7609:

Link to Bear's Pit's download-repository where 7609 can be found. Sorted by language, which should match language of your original JA2.
i.e., if you use a german CD-version of JA2, also choose german 7435/7609.
Technically, 7609 is an update to 7435. That's why you need to do the install in proper order (see Step-by-Step below).

https://storage.rcs-rds.ro/links/4729f8d6-f44b-42b7-aa3e-e0ddc6deead6?path=%2FJA_2%2Fv1.13_Releases%2FOfficial

----

How to instal 7609:

step 01: Install your original JA2 (from CD, Steam, GOG or elsewhere)

- since Windows-Vista some folders are "protected", so don't use Program Files, Program Files (x86), etc.
- save bet would be not to use C:\\ at all
- you can have multiple instances of JA2, so you may wanna make a copy of original install as template for later use

step 02: Follow link above. Choose language matching your JA2 install. Choose "v7435".

step 03: Inside v7435, choose "JA2_113_FullRelease_"Language"_7435.exe" and download it.

step 03 a: Also in v7435, open folder "Update" and choose "JA2_113_UpdateForRelease7435_"Language"_7609.exe"  and download this also.

step 04: The two files you just downloaded are self-extracting-archives ("a zip that extracts itself, so to say"), so don't worry about them being "exe". Only those two files are needed.

step 04 a: First, extract the one with "7435" (run exe, choose path). Either choose path to JA2 install (step 01) or copy extracted files into JA2 install (step 01). Overwrite when asked.

step 04 b: Then, extract the one with "7609" and do the same. Either choose path to JA2 install (step 01) or copy extracted files into JA2 instal (step 01). Overwrite when asked.

step 05: Inside your JA2 install (step 01) there now should be a file "zPatch.bat". Click on this (zPatch.bat). A DOS-Window will pop up. Confirm with hitting any key when asked.

step 06: If you consider this an annoying way to install, you may wanna make a copy of the result as a future template (e.g. for use with 7609-mods).

[NOTE] Most mods are developed on a specific language (german, russian, english, etc.). Using, eg., an english mod on a german JA2, will in most cases result only in a language mix. If you still run into language based problems, you may wanna try to get an english JA2 from Steam or GOG (it's rather cheap). Since most mods are either english or an english translation is available for them, this might be worth it.

[NOTE] Don't forget to run the "zPatch.bat"

tl;dr skip that, look below and download 7609-SCI, unzip over orininal ja2, go

Get a 7609-SCI  (Single-Click-Installer)

As seen above, the assembling of a working 7609-version requires some steps (7435 plus 7609-update plus run the zPatch.bat). It was puzzling me, why there was no already assembled 7609-version. And out of curiosity I looked into it and ended up assembling one (actually, three slightly different ones - see thread for more details).
In the thread I also try to explain what I've done to assemble those files. Might be useful, if you plan to do this yourself with another language version.

Thread: 7609 SCI (eng) (v1.13 7435-7609 installation already fully assembled)

Download: 7609 SCI (see thread for other versions and differences between them)

From Oct.2020 to Jun.2021 the 7609-SCI has seen over 500 downloads (which I consider much, being such a niche product) and since I haven't faced a shitstorm, I assume it's working fine.

It works with sevenfm's 7609+AI (see next topic), like any 7609. To make full use of +AI it's nevertheless recommended to use it with his modpack (see topic "Modpacks" further down). The modpack contains additional files and has tweaked settings to match the +AI.
The main purpose of this 7609-SCI is to save you the trouble of assembling it yourself. Can be used as standalone and as base for any mod that requires the 7609-version of JA2 v1.13.

EDIT: I'm overhauling this page at the moment (04.02.2023), the main links are there already, but expect some more the following days

Difficult level - what do they do exactly?

Tue, 20 October 2020 15:02

Hello!

Some background:
I have been playing around a lot with all the amazing settings available and the game is how I want it to be except one issue. I love big battles but I want diversion also not only elites.

Issue 1:
I used insane as base for modifications and when I got counter attacked at dressen it was only by elites. So now I have copied all settings to novice and hope that I will get counter attacked by some regulars, elites and maybe even admins? What other hard coded (?) Differences come with different difficult levels?

Issue 2:
I can't seem to find a way to reduce ap required to throw grenades? Is there one?

Thanks for any answers!
