I believe Brenda is the redhead at the triple x shop Hans and Tony run in San Mona, however in the 1.13 Items.xml I was not able to find an item for the journal.

Dieter, he's talking about JA, not JA2 Smile

Here's a spoiler to help find the scientific journal:

Here's a thorough guide to JA. It contains a lot of information about quests, sectors, items, traps etc. WARNING! Major spoilers too!

You know, I don't remember - what's the advantage of actually getting that journal? I remember managing to grab it once (with the combination to the safe) but I let it blow up every other time...

It's been a while since I played the game last time, but I'm pretty sure the journal didn't give any advantage to you in actual gameplay. When you give it to Brenda, she says something about Santino having made some notes to the journal about reproducing the fallow trees. I suppose this is only meant to give a little role-playing feel to the game, if you want to help mankind by giving them an unlimited supply of fallow sap. I'm 99% sure you won't get any dollar reward for accomplishing this quest.

Is it possible that it changes the ending a little?

Maybe, but I can't tell, cause I've always retrieved the journal, however painful it may be to play that sector over and over again until you actually succeed in getting it :wb:

Found Brenda.

I sneaked with two guys to the backdoor of the building at sector 24. We didn't fire one shot.
And there she was: lying on the floor, dead as a dodo.

What went wrong?

Either one of these:

1) You have been detected in the sector before you entered the building and the enemies killed her. If this was the case, you would've seen the shot. However, this is unlikely if you didn't engage in combat.

2) Too many days have passed since she was captured. Some guides I've read, suggested that she would be killed if you can't find her in about five days after the capture. I haven't experienced this myself though. Anyway, could this be what happened to you?

Thanks for your reaction. The last could be the case. Do I have to start all over now? I am on day 14 now.

I never found Brenda in any of my games (not even her body) until I cheated and read a FAQ to know the sectors where she could be. You don't need her alive to finish your game but I think it will be harder.

But if Santino poisons your trees and you don't have brenda ...

and not to mention saving her gives you extra money as well.

You see them on the strategic map. The colour of ill trees is different from the colour of the healthy ones. As time (days) passes, ill trees will disappear forever (I think) and healthy ones become contaminated. You must blow up all the ill trees to stop the disease. It always starts with a single ill tree in or close to the place where you start the game. If you can quickly destroy it, the disease is over and dealt with of the most efficient way.

Thanks. I found it. I wondered what that red dot on the map was: it was the sick tree.
