Not a bug report, so I hope this is okay. My perspective is that of a newcomer to the series, but a long time gamer and middle-aged adult with science background. I hope my observations might be of some use in that respect.

I've played vanilla JA2; JA2.1.13.4870 and now 6670. I have not played 6670 as much, so these are my first impressions.

1. On novice difficulty, I do not see a problem with the NCTH. It is noticeably harder for player to hit (compared to 4870), but based on what little I know about firefights, it actually seems a bit more 'realistic.' Instead of two or three aimed single shots from a prone Mrks 85 Merc with ironsights SMGs dispatching an enemy, it is now necessary for most enemies who are not at close range to maneuver, suppress, and take multiple shots. I can see how on Experienced difficulty this might stop seeming to be 'realistic' and instead seem to be unnecessarily punishing. However, this has the desirable effect of making a squad with a mixture of roles more useful: marksman/sniper who lurks in the background, SMGs, LMGs who probe ahead and suppress and take burst shots of opportunity, shotgun user who punishes close interlopers, grenadiers for those ideal situations for that. Overall, the changes that have been made in the maths between 4870 and 6670 seem to be a step in the right direction (at least on novice difficulty).

2. The additions to merc character and background, the little icons to indicate optics on weapons, APs to manipulate inventory, tactical formation movement, and a dozen other 'sundry' augmentations are awesome!

3. Not sure how some of these features work (cleaning guns, rations for mercs, etc.) but in theory they sound fantastic.

4. The sped up enemy turns is HUGE! love that! I'm not falling asleep at the keyboard quite so much.

ADDIT: sorry but could someone point me at a link the or a 'all about' on the new features like rations (food and drink) and cleaning guns? Not seeing anything obvious in the early part of this thread.

What are the procedures or data you are looking for? Are there specific libraries, compilers and/or compiler settings required?

I seek to help but my attempts have been haphazard so far.

I just want to say that, I really LIKE the combat dynamics in 6670 (on Novice). Scopes matter. Formations matter. Timing and manuevering matters. Using cover, flanking, that sort of thing matters. It is seems a bit harder to hit than it was in 4870, but I think it is good.

The food and drink is AWESOME! This really adds so much to the game, as operations have to be integrated with supply. The gun cleaning also adds a lot to me. All the new gear is amazing! Sure, I was a tad bit disappointed to realize that sandbags are of fairly limited use, but ah well; what can you do, eh?

Overall, I just wanted to say, fantstic stuff. You guys who have continued to develop this game over these years are amazing and inspirational.

I periodically encounter a crash or temporary 'lockup' (spinning watch), as well as (less often) Error screens like the above poster. Have tended to think it is this poor old overworked laptop on its way slowly toward deaths door . . . but maybe not.

Should I bother to document these for you guys? Is a 'how to' describing the location of log files and such easily at hand?

If yes, I'll create a bugzilla account and follow whichever procedure you guys want. Its the least I can contribute given how much fun I've had with your mod Smile

Really like the SCI, much appreciated Depressivesbrot.
Got this error when loading the current latest one 06/03/14 Revision 7027 over a clean all new JA gold vanilla (tried 3 time) :

[1.37587e-005] : The value [Tactical Cover System Settings][COVER_SYSTEM_STATIC_SHADOWS_DECREASE_BRIGHTNESS] = "" in file [Ja2_Options.ini] is neither TRUE nor FALSE. The value FALSE will be used.
The value [Tactical Cover System Settings][COVER_SYSTEM_ADDITIONAL_TILE_PROPERTIES] = "" in file [Ja2_Options.ini] is neither TRUE nor FALSE. The value TRUE will be used.

No big deal though as it works.
I also get another problem, maybe a bug i'm not sure (use to only play 4870 before), but reflex sight give a 2 level aim bonus instead of one and all guns with "integrated" no removable stock give a 2 aim level penalty also instead of one.
I checked the XML editor and the aim level modifier is both 1 for the reflex sight and all guns with "integrated" no removable stock though.
Removable stock give 1 aim level penalty as usual.
Is this normal ?

You need to use latest files from SVN repository to go with latest exe's. In your case, it appears, your ini file(s) are missing some entries added with latest changes.

Nah, I think anv messed up on the patches for those, so ini and exe were slightly out of sync when I packaged that. No issue, it's just a notification anyway.

Thanks for the update !
I notice the aim level issue was related to the new scope mode.
With a scope the aim modifier is correct (1 penalty for guns with an integrated stock, reflex sight no tested) while in iron view mode it gave you 2 aim penalty.
Downloading the new SCI, will see if that problem is gone.

Got this error message after clean install of the 15/03/14 SCI:

1.61333e-005] : The value [Meanwhile][ALL_MEANWHILE_CUTSCENE] = "" in file [Mod_Settings.ini] is neither TRUE nor FALSE. The value TRUE will be used.
The value [Militia Training Settings][MILITIA_TRAINING_CARRYOVER_PROGRESS] = "" in file [Ja2_Options.ini] is neither TRUE nor FALSE. The value FALSE will be used.
The value [Tactical Cover System Settings][COVER_SYSTEM_STATIC_SHADOWS_DECREASE_BRIGHTNESS] = "" in file [Ja2_Options.ini] is neither TRUE nor FALSE. The value FALSE will be used.
The value [Tactical Cover System Settings][COVER_SYSTEM_ADDITIONAL_TILE_PROPERTIES] = "" in file [Ja2_Options.ini] is neither TRUE nor FALSE. The value TRUE will be used.

As for the previous SCI, ,easy to understand the message so no big deal.
Aim level modifier for integrated stock is correct now but the reflex sight still give you a 2 bonus aim level.

GameDir_1987 introduces interface icons for the enemy roles feature. Try updating your game with SVN instead of SCI and look if that removes the issue.

Running

1.13+ AR 1.4 + SCI_Unstable_Revision_7130_on_GameDir_2005.7z

Encountered some bug at the San Mona Fighting Tournament.

First off : I presume that after having used Quickload in a fight results in you being disqualified is some kind of "cheat-prevention"? Would make sense at least.

The other thing is: I managed to kill the first oponent in the fight but as soon as his corpse hit the floor it blocked me. Could not leave the ring or get past that corpse.

Edit: After managing to win the fight without killing the guy and blocking myself its still bugged up. There is an infinite wait timer and you cant leave the ring.

Edit: Another Bug, i presume. When entering Cambria at G8 the game crashes as soon as i move my mercs to the upper right corner. I have no idea what exactly causes it but it keeps happening as soon as i get near the last house in the upper right corner.

Edit: Also something with the Values from attached optics is sometimes bugging up. Seems that sometimes the correct values arent added to the equipped weapon. The Zoom Levels turn wonky every now and then.

Hi. First post. Just registered to ask this: I wanna try the new Feature "Enemy Generals" (by Flugente). According to Flugente: "This has been added to the trunk in r7179 and requires GameDir r2028".

Problem: When I last checked the kermi FTP the latest prepacked build (SCI unstable) was from May 1st and was r7178 and Gamedir 2027 --> so that wouldn't include the feature right? Any chance to get an updated build anytimme soon (please)? Would be greatly appreciated! I just love the convenience of Depris builds, thanks by the way!*

Would really love to try this new Feature, as it finally gives a reason to do deep covert insertions into enemy territory.

I know what you mean. I used to compile the exe (I don't code for a living) but it ate into game time. When that computer went away I never set up Visual Studio on the next one. I'd honestly rather be a play tester, with the emphasis on play, and really appreciate guys that do the compiling for the rest of us. They need testers as well as coders anyhow.

I try to give feedback and attaboys, that's my contribution. Plus I threw money at JA: Flashback. That's real money there.

Hey, I know you 1.13 modders can't receive money for what you do (I believe, who has the rights, anyway?), but if you wanted to put some public bitcoin addresses in your sigs it might be a good idea. You know who you are. My 1.13 enjoyment is worth at least what I gave to the Flashback team.

Yes, I'm playing with big maps. They're pretty impressive and sure make playing on INSANE a lot more interesting.

The game plays smooth overall (I'm playing on win xp), but I noticed it gets a bit choppy in the equipment screens.

Using the June 2, 2014 SCI, I noticed the following oddity:

During turnbased mode, with the inventory open (~ key), the frame rate drops a lot. To be clear I mean the animation rate, it takes 5 times longer for a shot to cross the screen, the animation and movement are very slow. Closeing the inventory panel returns the game to normal. Could it have anything to do with an INI setting? Or is it a bug?

Hello,

Im coming back to game after a while and im really amazed by amount of changes.

I wanted to download newest pack but im pretty confused.

Those packages in this topic are marked as "Unstable" and "Beta" versions with users as testers.

Are there any "Stable" packages out there? Not most recent but stable and not marked as betas? I dont need a fancy one click installers i can handle more complicated ways of updating/installing.

I remember that you could update your v.1.13 to newest version using SVN server but its no longer availabile :/

so I'm playin now on expert ver, 7535 and it's really hard...
my previous playtrough was with ver 7130 and I don't remember it being so hard..
i've set it to slow equipment progression and regular enemies with low quality guns are ridiculously accurate and are organizing amazingly fast... nearly every "interrupt" and "first turn" is theirs... not to mention when I finally take the sector they are back with reinforcements in less than a day...
did you make the game harder in latest versions?
Hell, I have problems even in mr claus's boxing ring...

Older versions of AIMNAS don't have food items, it would be wise to check which one you have.

The gear selection requires a relatively new exe. If your AIMNAS exe is older than that, the feature won't be there.

The AIMNAS subforum is where you can ask specific questions to that mod.
