Wasn't sure where I should post this question.
I've been through the forum checking for this, and came up empty (some topics seem to have been deleted too...).

Used JA2IE (weapons editing program) on JA2 Unf.Bus. with the SOG mod installed, to see the actual difference between weapons, but some of the bits of data confused me. I'm talking particularily about the bytes that define what this particular program refers to as "APFirst" and "APSingle". I suppose other editors call them differently, but just by looking at the numbers I still couldn't figure out how those things affected the game. From playing Urban Chaos I understand the factor of Draw Cost (Which was written in each gun's description box, thanks UC crew for that), so I guess that's the "APFirst" byte? Which makes the "APSingle" a strange thing - it seems the faster weapons in the game have higher values in this byte... I can't seem to follow the logic of the values, would love to know if anyone could explain that to me.

I'm really only trying to get a more clear understanding of which guns are better, just for this particular SOG69 campaign I'm playing, but would love to understand it more thoroughly perhaps for designing weapons for my own campaigns?

Thanks in advance, sorry if this was the wrong forum to post this in.

As I understand it, APFirst is in correlation to the first shot fired - drawcost+AP to shoot.

APSingle refers to the APs necessary to fire one shot after the firearm has been readied. That's why faster firing guns have higher values their - they cycle ammo faster.

No, apparently APFirst is the drawcost, and turns out that APSingle needs to be calculated:

90 / Apsingle = AP cost for one singleshot, before drawcost.

Found this by using the HTML Weapon Chart generator. Insteresting why they would choose this formula, what purpose does it serve?

You could try the official forum of the mod, should have a download link somewhere. Regarding the weapon editor, it is not better than the xml editor but it can edit other versions.

The old w4st's weapon editor is a hack for the vanilla game and UB. It is NOT compatible with the xmls or the 1.13 and has severe limitations because it overwrites data in an incomplete and somewhat haphazard manner.

This is by no means an insult to the guy who wrote the program since it was built at a time way before the source code was released and served as the only weapon editor for all of the pre 1.13 mods to my knowledge. It was the only way he could have done it without access to the source code and the development of the xmls Madd Mugsy and I believe Kaiden were cool enough to develop for us.

You might want the old weapon editor if you want to mod the vanilla version of SOG. But if you plan on making a 1.13 version you will need to edit the xmls. This is a much more complete and satisfying method anyway but of course is not compatible with the pre 1.13 versions.

Hope this clarifies things for you. Good luck.

I think (yeah right)
that it would mean that a fraction of all AP's get used, not a fixed-number
seems to go along with sleepy/wounded-mercs and their lower-ap-req.

JA2IE only makes sense if used in conjunction with WE-Edit as both do things the other can't. For 1.13 do like Dan says and look at the xml (though a working knowledge of what means what etc learned from using IE & WE are always useful).
