Changes include:

-graphics and values of weapons and items,
-new ballance of weapons
-new maps
-new Recruitable mercs
-new NPC
-changes to EXE

Mod and story is in English, although the initial ja2.exe was german.

Known problems: initially "Manuel"from UB replaced Hamous, but because my host refused me a size over 10 megs...I have personally butchered the wav&gap files. This could create "waving face" effect.Knowledgeable people could either extract the files from UB and place them in the appropriate folders or use Proedit to revert to Hamous system. The others are asked to dismiss him immediately, as they probably would have done to Hamous.
Other than this, there is no known problem at the moment.

The download is around 9Mb(readme included) and can be obtained here http://majornikolai.badongo.com/

What version of JA2 should this be used with? The readme doesn't say... I assume it can't be used with v1.13, as it modifies the .exe. Looking forward to giving it a try. Smile

I see 2 downloads signaled at the major's page, and DurtyDan said "readme doesn't say..." so I guess it is accessible.
1.02 to 1.12 versions then.

If you have a german or russian version of ja2 installed, then most of the speech will be in that language.English-English.
E-mails,RIS report, weapon descriptions and speech of modified chars will be ENGLISH ONLY, and so will the interface.

@scorp
Must be adds.I'll try to mail it to you.If you could wrap it back in under 10 megs and offer an installer/uninstaller,maybe fix the problem with Manuel's face(heck,I don't even know if it's the case, but it *should* be :headbanger: )...could host it anywhere you'd like. Now you know why why my work at maps slowed down. Wink Had to get this out of my system.

first couple of sectors combat very interesting, nice enemy placements, Shank and dynamo cured faces mod looking nice. Some maps familiar from vengeance with a redesign... nice

btw for me it now works, Yuri`s face is now animated

btw very funny line when yuri is recruited Wink

some enemies are very dangerous given the bad armor yur guys have and the tough guns the enenmy has

Great mod. It is refreshing to get a new story line and sectors. Makes it a whole new game. Smile Congratulations on accomplishing this project single handedly.

I don't think that I've found all the initial characters around omerta yet, but am still working on it.

I like having the good guns around from the beginning, but sudden death from the black shirts is always near. Surprised

How hard would it be to convert this to 1.13? Just an idle question....

lol Dan i already hinted to Az that this "idle question" would pop up Wink

we discussed it and Az said basicly that some elements are not yet possible in 1.13

that`s sad on the one hand, but on the other hand it means there`s something extra in this mod that we can`t afford to miss out on.

i was thinking maybe i could extend the content of the ja2 rr mod subsection of this forum to also include mods like reconquista (like "featured mods") where the modmakers can share files and know-how with each other and try porting them to 1.13 engine WHEN IT WILL BE POSSIBLE
You know i`ve uttered thoughts of quasi missionbased designs and given the multiple data folder structure of 1.13 we could have reconquista and ja2 rr in the same 1.13 install and just switch the custom data location entry in ja2.ini
There have been other projects around where people could need assistance or at least community feedback. However this will entriely depend on modmakers to make a step forward

Here the point is that some players have uttered their concerns about mods being to large scale. Reconquista however, you start in fast, custom RPC`s, vehicles early on, allows going in fast for those players that prefer this fast action mode as opposed to a larger scale mod that would start out slowly and require the player to search many sectors for items or NPC`s.

I`ve been doing some testing of reconqista as well, if you notice anything you`d call a glitch or bug you can also tell me (i`ve been doing minor adjustments to reconquista)too.

yeah, there are lotsa cool characters around and the RIS says there are more charatcers in custom locations and all such
Yuri will be in ja2 RR as well, but different stats and speech

it`s like we`re doing a public betatest now and Az might still fix some details about the mod so there`s no hurry to have definitive hosting now.

I'm enjoying this mod, but would like a few questions answered.

1. Is Tony supposed to dissappear after the first encounter, or does he go somewhere else? I haven't seen him in over 8 game days. Sad

2. Are many of the gameworld items supposed to be useless now? Ceramic plates don't attach to armor, C1 won't take a detonator, steel rod won't make an extender, etc.

1)"The selection this time of year is excellent".
The answer to your question is Hicks.

2)You need stable explosive compounds to attach detonators.Don't walk into battle with stuff that might go boom as soon as you hit the ground, or a grenade is tossed at your team, and incinerate everybody.Capse doesn't work on TNT and c1,yes, detonate those with a grenade, or use together with stable compounds.

Ceramic plates go with guardian vest, as the description sais.

Rod&spring works only on...automatic weapons, installed by people with skill and good mechanical knowledge. There is always an extender and R&S in C9, Len has one too.At those weaponstats, they are futile, but they stayed in the game.

I think because of the new sounds weapon have the impression is they are much more powerful now, but it is generally not the case.Much effort was put into getting the new ballance of weapons, while keeping an acceptable progression.
One thing is certain: NONE of the Reconquista weapons ever become obsolete, and there will be cases in the final stage when you would want a pair of pistols instead of the FN2000 or whatever high-tech tool of the trade your mercenaries carry.

"Reconquista" encourages fast playing, everything was tuned for a coordinated strike on all the mines on first day, including mercs and their equipment and prices.
Just break that mental block caused by the guides, and years of taking first Drassen, then after a week paying a visit at Madame Layla's...

Militia is superequipped now, more than a match for the worse assailants!
What, with all the guns you left in that country on your last visit... Wink

You can have 6-8 ubermercs from AIM for a day, recruit locals, and reach the capital on day one if you want.

Playing slowly with such power in your hands is...but it can be done. It's not how your average mercs would do it, but hey, to each his own.

This is how I play, and I want you to know I understand if you don't like it, or you just want to go slowly, admiring the views and equipment progression.
"You don't like my style, I don't like yours, we shake hands and call it a wash" Smile

Allright, answering here to mail I received:

1)The only gun that is "optional" is the VSS that replaces the rocket rifle.Yes, it still has the fingerprint ID, and it shoots 9x39mm that look like the old minirockets. Sad
Players are asked to choose "normal" settings, not "tons of guns", not to be disturbed by this aspect.
So,"normal" will be "no rocket rifle" for now.

2)Curtesy of The Scorpion, dr. Yuri and Manuel have acceptably animated faces. Thanks Scorp.

3)Iggy seems to have a problem appearing at the Cambria Hospital, after Mike is killed, although I received a save with him appearing allright. This must have been my fault, I have made some brutal last moment modifications, cutting size from some 25Mb to 9Mb, butchering -literally-many things(some maps amongst them). :wb:

Due to popular demand..."reconquista" will not be fixed again and again, it was never designed as a "supermod" but as a testbench for things to come.
At the moment, the only thing I'm really proud of is the new ballance of weapons, and the way militia is equipped.

And YES, damn it, I will try to make a 1.13 minimod of it, but I will need some help.
And some time.
Meanwhile, enjoy!

Wow,almost 70 downloads!
This really exceeds my wildest expectations.

A 1.13 release is not to be expected earlier than Christmas, but it will include chars and quests that were cut out of this release.

As I said, this version, based on the german demo .exe will not be improved, but please report any bugs or gameplay inconvenience you encounter here.Thank you.

There was no readme from june 22nd on.
Install: the self-extracting archive needs to be extracted in(over) your ja2 folder, allowing it to overwrite any files. No uninstaller or backup utility supplied.
Credits: all the modmakers I have stolen from, players for bearing with the inherent mistakes of a premature release.

The interface was made by Ron,from the Chinese TBS forums, and it was designed for 1.13-for some reason the 1.13 team decided for a Shady Mob-like interface instead of it.There's a link for downloading it in the 1.13 part of the forum.

Dynamo is always recruitable by dr. Yuri, a 40+ leadership friendly character.IMP ldr. 35 works too.Just talk friendly to him, repeatedly, listen to the (old) story and recruit him after he sais "I might be able to help you".
He's teaching-lockpicking and isn't psycho anymore.Worth at least 500$ if you ask me,but if you refuse his $50/day offer he'll still join for free.
Go back for him:Matt still responds to talking to him in person and to you having him in your team(important double bonus in Alma loyalty)

PS:the file uploaded 07-20-2006 contains Scorpion's patch.

Great MOD. I like it alot. The new sectors look and feel great. Is it possible to just copy the .DAT files to my JA2 1.13 folders. That would make it even more awesome. The one thing that bugs me about 1.13 is that its the same old maps, the same strategical problems.

Yeah, but wait 'till mods start floating faster than you can play them...

I'd make this a 1.13 mod myself, although I don't really know if this could bring something new.Heck,in case you didn't noticed, nothing is really new in this mod, that hasn't been done in other mods(it's miscellaneous-in fact, most of the stuff is taken from other mods, filtered, converted, polished, directed). It was a one man's montage-with important help from The Scorpion untill I figured out some things.
It's generally an easy game, that one can make more difficult by advancing faster into the country.Tried to restrain myself from malicious stuff.

Think I'll correct the maps completely this weekend and make this version "an almost perfect crime" by updating it as soon as I'm done.Might add another recruitable girl, too.

Fact is some things are not yet doable-at least to my knowledge- in 1.13 the way they can be done for older versions(XML editing still doesn't solve problems that Azrael's tools like the Proedit add-on and the Strategic Map Editor solved problems for almost a generation of modmakers)

Polished, corrected, as good as I can make it.
At the moment my knowledge is insufficient for making it better.

-got rid of the german.slf(3Mb) balast, ported it to version 1.07-full English.(Cheat users, rejoice aww )
-fixed problems known so far
-repacked it in 6Mb,readme included

Things to avoid:
-giving money to "Soldier X"
-trying to chat(too much) with that "Wildcat" beauty; just push "recruit" with a high leadership merc.

Other than that I encountered absolutely no problem during testing
(so help me God, so much time was spent on this mod-"wife didn't take it quite good" is an enormous understatement...)
big grin

Thanks a lot Azazel for your answer & the link:
i've found reconquista and other mods that i've not tried again.
even if some of them are in German is not a hard problem (I'm a French player & I've JA2 & UB in english but I understand German enough to play with).
I think that you & the other fans that do these mods made a really great job & I'm very impressed by the amount of time & hard work you've spend in it.
JA is a game that I love & I'm happy that some guys like you continue to support it efficiently.
I've watched the menu page of "renegade republic " & I wait for it impatiently!!

My guess is you have normal 1.13 prof.dat and those custom maps with different char arrangements. In other words, your exe is taking maps from a folder(data) and prof.dat from another(data 1.13)
You *should* be able to have custom chars in maps if you have the custom files from the reconquista "binarydata" folder. You also must have "battlesounds" and "speech" folders, plus the ones belonging to your weaponmod Which is your custom data folder in the .ini file? Did you make a new custom folder?

In theory(dunno what great changes they did to the 1.13 exe lately,or wheather they made the different prof.dat according to difficulty work ) you could have reconquista with 1.13 weaponmod by only having binarydata, npcdata, npcspeech, speech, battlesounds, maps and radarmaps folders copied over the "data 1.13" folder.Do not copy other files than those, or you'll get a mess.
You could also get a mess by doing what I said, 'cause I'm speaking only from memory, with no ja2 folders seen for quite some time. Smile

Sorry, haven't touched any map since (early)December, and it doesn't look like I'm going to start working on something ja2 related anytime soon. Even had to let down some of the people I worked with or for.

@ AZAZEL: sorry to hear that. every mapper and modder is needed now to keep the project alive and interesting. no one can just keep on testing 1.13 over and over again with the same old maps!

and your maps are rather fun and interesting improvements of the vanilla maps.
