The patch fixed nothing as far as I can tell. Game still crashes regularly. Some things got worse, like now I find healing to be painfully difficult. In some cases now it is impossible to heal dying mercs. Also grenades no longer seem to show their throw path anymore.
As far as militia goes, unless it got worse with patch, I have no problems with them. You just have to give them decent gear and they will be fine. I lost the first mine once, right after I took it. Since then I have only lost minor things like roadblocks and the crashed truck. I have 4 cities and own the top half of the map, militia does fine, especially now that they getting to level 5. Just give them good rifles and your half broken armor and they will do fine. If you got a bunch of guys with axes knives and the occasional 38 then they will get slaughtered even if it is 24 level 5 militia against 7 baddies. The gear does matter, even when you are not there. Also always make sure you repair the gear to full before giving it to them, and if they get in a lot of fights go repair their weapons.
Sorry for any mistakes, typed this on cell phone.

Don't install this patch if you can avoid it!
It's known in the official boards that it introduced a bug with healing. There's a hotfix announced for that, so better wait for it.

Healing and repairing do work, but not from every angle or distance.
You have to walk around your merc, stand real close and it will repair/heal.
Also try moving them a few meters and then try again.
Yes it is a pain, but at least then I can get it done.
PS:
Also, in a 20 hour play, I got only one crash.
Win 64bit, AMD configuration, fresh windows install 1 week ago.
This might be a nice game after a year or so.

community manager at official JA boards said, that there will be 2 bigger patches which will address issues that the community brought up after release. which ones? we'll find out later.
i'm hoping for improvements in the aim time calculation with some scopes (holo, 4x, etc), fog of war ofcourse and visual tweaks (mercs hold most SMGs the wrong way).
