Pitch 5 ideas to help the KS campaign here:
http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/board/ubbthreads.php/topics/318953.html#Post318953
I wrote down my brain farts, dunno if we'll go with those, add yours too.
About Chris Camfield, I doubt he has a hero status over the Internet to see an instant pledge surge. For us old timers, it's awesome news. But for the generic crowd out there, even casual gamers who don't give a flying fuck who made their game, it needs time to sink in. And for their gaming website to say "Original JA2 developer joins JA:Flashback remake" or something.
Or just tell them "Gumpy is back". The old ladies will go crazy and you can raise 2 million like that.
btw, Shanga has put the money where his mouth is:
Quote:Speaking of which, and a bit off topic, can anyone fill me in to what happened to Ian Currie?
Nothing tragic. He was the holder of the JA IP, he sold it to SFI when Sir-tech Canada went bust. Went on with his career in the gaming industry. He's now a big shot (Design Director) at Turbine. And he has had his hair cut recently.

Yes, shadow.
Edit:
I'd say it's rather his special, well, how to put that, very own "friendly" way of a more general rant, not aiming at somebody in particular.

@FC What's commendable (to me):
- First of all, taking on JA next game (it's big shoes to fill with JA1, DG & JA2)
- Update #6 Humble Bundle
- Update #12 Advisory Team addition
(Don't let the next worthy update be #18... I would rather be updated with sporadic, detailed info rather than frequent skimming-the-surface fillers)
Ideally, would wait for the diorama release before putting this, but time waits no one.
I'm probably just rehashing previously-made comments/posts.
------------------
FC (should have) realized that by appealing with the franchise name &/or turn-based genre just would *not* make the cut by the first few days of crowdfunding. In short, it was (one could strictly say retrospectively) a weak opening pitch in the aftermath of many turn-based prequel/sequel kickstarters.
FC needs to do more than that. 2 weeks into kickstarter, FC has heeded some of the public/community's suggestions for the better.
As always, easier said than done.
FC has 3 market segments to address for maximum punch/kick/stab/shot delivery.
1. New to JA & those with bad aftertaste of recent JA-related offerings
2. Backers (both convinced & give-it-a-shot)
3. JA community that has not backed, especially those sitting on the fence
With Update #12, backers & yet-to-backed community has been assured that JA's essence & modding capabilities are well taken care of.
As for segment 1, they are alienated. (not that they may become JAF sci-fi enemies but being walled off from the ebb and flow...) The (current) kickstarter content does not enticed them and they are still clueless about JA's true roots after (re)reading kickstarter. Yes, it's a single-player 3D tactical turn-based squad game but
What makes JA the Godfather of turn-based action? What's JA core gameplay? How deep is the tactical element? How are the characters memorable?
In short, the ball is entirely in FC's hands to tell every new-to-JA visitor what's the unique selling proposition (USP) before even the remote consideration of backing the kickstarter.
It's a hassle to read the mountain of text & worst, not getting much concrete info out of them. They are 'window-shopping'/browsing around and FC has 3 minutes to pitch or they are off. Potential backers should be informed with minimal effort and that can be achieved by well-orchestrated videos.
So, IMO, what FC needs now is an easy-to-relate v2.0 video together with succinct pitch/interview articles for a second wave of PR. However I fear that diorama may suffice for a v1.5 pitch only. (Prove me wrong, FC)
Here's an excellent suggestion by the public:
PambamImagine, you create a short video (5 - 10 min.) which shows (+ perhaps voice commentary, enthusiastic, entertaining like a trailer) how great JA2 is. This could include nice quotes from cool and funny mercenaries (and Elliot), combat, tactical layer and NPC + story?
But what is it, what makes this game so addictive? That can only be experienced if you played it for a longer time. That is the problem. Younger folks don't know it, won't do it so they will not pledge. To convince them, you have to go like this: JA2 is still great, look how old it is, how many details it had, how cool it was - lets do something better with modern technology which defines the genre again.
A second video from FC will follow, where they express as a commentary what was great in JA - what they will use again.

Bearpit's 11-year-old running thread of memorable quotes:
http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/board/ubbthreads.php/topics/45951/1.html
Quote:AND A video of a newly-created, easily-recognizable icon/stereotypical merc in JA2 to showcase FC artistic & creative talent. Just need a new animated portrait with some specific recorded dialogue lines & a witty background info.
The icing of the cake is also to fortify our trust that FC, *indeed*, has the right vision for JAF.
Some ideas from JAF forum: http://www.jaggedallianceflashback.com/forums/topic/mercenary-ideas/
The new updates (videos) will be a better representation on whether FC truly understands what makes JA JA, thereby ensuring a would-be quality product leading to more backers & higher pledges. As in the end, it's FC who will be calling the shots, doing their balancing act while inevitably lowering the priority of some of the advisory team's valuable suggestions.
Additional details/updates can thereafter be selectively elaborated based on feedback, serving them as bite-sized happy meals (videos) if appropriate instead of the dull, plain standard full course meals (text).
If FC *really* wants JAF to be kickstarted,
1. Activate some of Space Hulk team to help out. At most, Space Hulk will be delayed by a week or so. (Read somewhere that FC has only 3 active staff for the kickstarter)
2. Feel free to ask (please be specific) the JA community what resources FC need from the old JA games. Set a manageable deadline. If no quality output, DIY or search for alternatives.
Give everyone faith/confidence in backing &/or giving a higher pledge.
Leverage on human's passions, innate ability to connect the dots and our extrapolation tendency. It's about the possibilities.
Cheerz,
Buggler
P.S. I'm concerned with this:
Quote:The game text will be localized to English, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish.
Will there be native language voiceovers for all non-English versions? I could interpret the above as having English voice acting with native language text. Update #4 did not clarify & honestly non-english version should *not* be short-changed on this which I believe it to be JA's core.

Shangatime to call it a day for me.
I'll leave you with the first "bear vs hamster" meme. Strictly for internal use (copyrighted image and stuff)
Perfect theme for the next meme. The little commando hamster riding a ferocious bear, just trying to hold on for dear life. XD
