sevenfm wrote on Tue, 01 September 2020 17:10That site is also now official 1.13 archive for various mods, tools etc...
Well, as I said, that information should be somewhere easy to find, in case you're not around to help...
I think JA2 1.13 is an exceptional project, well worth to be better known, but if even an old veteran like me can be confused, imagine what happens to newbies.
sevenfm wrote on Tue, 01 September 2020 17:10If you are interested in most recent 1.13 development builds
No thanks, I'm no developer, most I do is modding stuff...
While I have you - About the SCI versions, I guess they aren't all equal. There are probably more or less stable ones (simple bug fix releases) and more "dangerous" ones (full of brand new features and bugs). Is there anywhere a changelog where one can find this information?

sevenfm wrote on Tue, 01 September 2020 19:50Changelog is in official 1.13 development svn
Uh-oh, all I see there is what I suppose is the game's source code. Which file is a (human-readable) change log?
=== Edit:
Never mind, found it in your Google drive. So am I right that consecutive builds have only minimal changes? That's good news (sort of) for it means more/longer compatibility (see below).
sevenfm wrote on Tue, 01 September 2020 19:50Usually you need to use the most recent SCI since it has most bugfixes
I'm looking for a trustworthy version, because if I start modding, I will stay on it for a while. Like, years.
On the other hand there are mods I'd like to play. For instance, I had played UC on vanilla JA2 back when it was released, and I'd love to try the JA2-1.13 version. Now your page states "Urban Chaos-1.13 [...], supports r8675". How can I know if it still runs with the latest r8796 short of trying (and maybe only finding it's impossible in mid-game)?
sevenfm wrote on Tue, 01 September 2020 19:50
My personal opinion is that 7609 with my +fix or +AI exes should be the most stable and well tested version.
I was initially heading for that one, because apparently several mods require it. But UC requires a later build. Choices, choices.
sevenfm wrote on Tue, 01 September 2020 19:50You can also ask questions on 1.13 discord.
Thanks but no, the forum is good enough for me. Besides, fragmentation of information is a problem.
For instance, I think this thread will keep helping people coming here, at least until it starts to be too outdated.

You need to install TortoiseSVN if you want to read svn development log.
There is Urban Chaos version for 7609 (for example, see one in my unofficial 7609 modpack), it's older than the most current UC, but it works well with 7609 and +AI.
The problem with 1.13 is there is no "modding version", you either use development branch which means you constantly update exe and gamedir to new features which can radically change everything sometimes or introduce new bugs, or you use one of the older revisions like 7609 or one of development revisions which you personally like which means you live with the bugs that no one will ever fix and you miss some new cool features like LOBOT animations.
One possible exception is my 7609+AI which I try to update with bugfixes at least and keep it compatible with 7609 mods without changes, but this version also will live as long as I support it, also it has some changes to stock 1.13 which not everyone likes and I plan to also introduce some changes in game mechanics which will also change the game balance. There are two mods for 7609+AI which are developed for quite a long time already - Arulco Vacations here and Soldiers of Anarchy on Russian forum.
The reason to use Discord is that you can at least hope to get answer there, because this forum's organization is complete crap, for example I totally missed your reply to my post for some reason, if not Asdow's post I would never reply to you.

No thanks, that's way beyond my pay grade...
sevenfm wrote on Thu, 03 September 2020 06:29There is Urban Chaos version for 7609
Yes, that's the one I had in mind (mostly because it's the only one I know about).
sevenfm wrote on Thu, 03 September 2020 06:29The problem with 1.13 is there is no "modding version"
Yes, I'm aware of that, it has always been so.
But as long as the changes are just minor I can always port stuff to the latest version. I'm actually planning to port my old ancient mod to the latest version (or die trying...). It will require a complete overhaul, especially concerning game balance, but I think it's doable.
sevenfm wrote on Thu, 03 September 2020 06:29LOBOT
What's that? I saw mentions in the changelog.
sevenfm wrote on Thu, 03 September 2020 06:29I totally missed your reply to my post for some reason
Yes, apparently notifications don't work, although the forum does send out emails, and I do receive them. Oh well, if that's the worst problem about 1.13 everything is peachy...
